Rift by Andreas Christensen Book Summary

RIFT - The new dystopian trilogy book 1 from the author of the Exodus Trilogy.

The RIFT Saga begins here.

In the ruins of what was once North America lays the Covenant, a nation forged by the iron will of the Moon people, who descended from their dusty refuge on the Moon after the Fall. The Moon people are wealthy, ruled by a strong government who protects its citizens from the dangers from outside their borders. Their greatest achievement is having learned the secret of immortality, and every citizen has the opportunity to live nearly forever if they choose to, a life of riches and abundance.

The English are the descendants of the original inhabitants of this place, and they live very different lives from that of the Moon people. They only live to serve the greater good, and citizenship is something few have the opportunity to earn. At the age of fifty all non-citizens are subjected to mandatory euthanasia. In order to maintain a sustainable society, they are told.

Every year a number of girls and boys at the age of eighteen are selected for Service to the State. The brightest and most talented are sent to become Students. The strong, the fighters and the athletes become Janissaries, a band of soldiers protecting the northern border from the enemies of the Covenant. The Wardens, a secretive organization known to operate far to the west, near the Rift, which makes up the border to the wastelands, sometimes choses one or two initiates, but nobody knows what becomes of them. And then there is the Corpus, where the whip rules and backs are bent.

Those who complete their Service, may become citizens. And although they will never be equal to the Moon people, they will have access to all the riches and opportunities granted by the Covenant leadership to its citizens.

As Sue is nearing Selection Day, she secretly hopes to be chosen, despite having to leave her mother and brother behind. She doesn't crave glory or wealth though. A man or woman with citizen status can do a lot of good, and although few return to their home towns, Sue hopes to return to give her family a better life on the other side of Service.

But the Covenant is rotten to the core, and as she begins to learn its secrets, Sue must question everything she has always taken for granted. Soon she will find herself in dire peril, for she has seen the truth and there will be no turning back after that...

This science fiction dystopian is set more than two centuries after the events of Exodus, in a future dystopian society forged from the ashes of global disaster.

"Mr. Christensen has absolutely found his genre, and I hope he keeps the stories coming!"

Well constructed story that pulls you in. As a long time reader of SF, this is an impressive story that I look forward to continue reading.

Enjoyed .... A nice short read. Well written & intriguing. Can't wait to start the next book...

Rift. I have been a Si-Fi reader for over forty years and it's been a long time since I have had a book grab me like this one. I hated to put it down just to go to work and I couldn't wait to get home to read more. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to anyone!

Good quick read. I am able to read several chapters at a time or just one or two and still follow the story line This is my fourth book and looking forward to continuing the series

Good Sci-Fi read!. Just a few small errors, but not enough to ruin the flow of the story. Amazing the lengths the ruling class will go to, to remain in power.

4 Stars. This was a pretty good book, especially for a free ebook. It reminded me a little of The Hunger Games and Divergent. The characters were great, but there were some parts that were unexplained - like why some people get chosen for service or not - but overall it was good. The rest of the series is definitely going to on my to-read shelf. I'd recommend it to fans of The Hunger Games or Divergent, or to anyone who'd like a relatively short, but interesting, sci-fi read.

Excellent. I really liked this book but the ending felt like the end of the chapter instead of the end of the book.

Rift. Rift is an amazing story of a dystopia unraveling. The characters are well developed and believable, and the story flows well without getting tangled and confused. I can't wait until the next book!

Rift. Enjoyed the read. Society reminded me of communist Soviet Union.

Rift. I enjoyed the storyline and details. I just purchased book 2 in the series.

Legacy. Leaves you wanting more!

For the Young. Light and interesting read, appreciated most by those 15-25. Want to read the next.

The Rift. Great story

Rift. Great story. I wish I had bought the other two in the series. Now I'll have to wait to see how it continues. I enjoyed the story, very well written. Not able to guess how it would end but will enjoy the continuing story. I look forward to more from this very talented story teller. I enjoyed every page.

Holy crap!!!!. The dynamic of characters and the means of their interaction along with seeing the story different from their eyes made me keep reading. And I don't read much but this one. Well worth reading!!!

Journey from Heaven. One of the worst books I’ve ever read.

Rift. Uninteresting story that plods along

Enjoyable, fast paced story. This and the subsequent books in the series are a fun, fast laced story. The authors use of multiple character viewpoints provides variety to the story.

Strictly YA. And a poorly done one at that. Stilted plot, characters, and dialogue. That does not have to be YA.

The Rift. Good read! Excellent characters, A story you can get lost in, with a believable future society. I thought the legacy series was good, but this is one I can't wait to continue. Thank you.

Rift. I enjoyed the read, will continue with the saga.

Getting Lost in Thought. I enjoyed reading cause you are rooting for the characters to succeed. Can’t wait to read the other two books in series.

I enjoyed it. If you like futuristic dystopian novels you will like this.

Rift.. Fascinating plot of an earth now ruled by moon people The author breaks up the novel by alternating characters rather than by chapter. I liked that idea. It kept the characters as the focus. Fast paced plot which kept my interest.

Fun, quick, and a great read. The book was fairly fast paced and an easy enough read. I really enjoyed the concept but I don't want to spoil the experience for future readers so I won't go into detail. I encourage anyone who likes future society books to give this one a chance.

The Rift. Great story. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

The rift. Very good read! Kept me up last night, had to see what would happen next!

Fun and fast. Although many of the story elements derive from recent popular works, such as Hunger Games and Game of Thrones, Rift manages to provide an enjoyable ride through a well-developed future world. I’m getting the second book to see what happens next.

Rift. Great read with some interesting twists. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Futuristic at it's best!. I've read four Andre Christiansen books and I'm hooked! Just finished Rift and can't wait to start the next!

Rift. Very entertaining. Hard to put down, I had to finish in one sitting!

Rift. Great book. Keeps you attached to the characters throughout the book. Couldn't put down.

Gripping page turner!. I just completed the first book in the series. I could not put it down!! I don't usually purchase the sequel when the first novel was free, however, this time an exception has to be made - I absolutely MUST continue the journey I began with 'Rift'😏

AWESOME BOOK. This was a great book that I feel everyone should read 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Great read. Really enjoyed this book, and looking forward to the next in this sequel.

Rift. Engrossing read. Enjoyed every page, can't wait to see what happens next!

Rift. A very good read. Enjoy

Wow! Follow the money.... So identical to its, um...predecessors, it's freakin' uncanny. Don't waste your money, even if it's free. This author hasn't a clue...

Wow. Another fantastic story by Andreas. Was hooked right from the beginning. Starting Covenant right now!!

Rift. Good read. Well written and good logic flow. Ended just a little soon.

Rift by: Andreas Christean. A tantalizing Syfi read. Captures the readers curiosity regarding a future narrative that our world dominance from some other world could entrap humans to believing their quality of life is stagnant without someone like Sue and Sam believing that there is more to mankind's future than ignorance with bliss. Ready to continue reading the next ebook in the mind twisting series. KSW

Rift. A well written book with an excellent and riveting plot..

Good development & unfolding... fun read. Pleasantly surprised by this new-to-me author & enjoyed this the first of the trilogy. I purchased & downloaded book #2 immediately after completed this. While there are elements of story similar to the Hunger Games trilogy, such elements not uncommon & almost seem archetypal. Rated this a 3 but would have liked to have been able to give it a 3.5!

Suspenseful!. Lots of suspense, lots of action. Loved the book!

Great read. I greatly enjoyed this book, although kind of short i found myself unable to put it down and was amazed by how into it i got

Lifeless. Very disappointing and lifeless. Flat characters and stilted dialogue on the rare occasion it should occur. It's mostly monologues being said by one character to another, and reads dry as a bone. Plus, I could never shake the fact that this book is clearly the love child of Divergent and The Hunger Games. Fascinating premise despite lacking in originality, but the cold writing makes it read more like the manual to an air conditioner than a fiction novel.

Rift. A well written book. Unforeseen twists and turns throughout the story keep you interested and almost involved.

Rift. I was concerned when I began this book, as it felt similar to other dystopian novels staring a young heroine. My concerns were proved unfounded. The universe created in Rift is exciting, and I can't wait to read were we're going from here.

Excellent read!. Fast paced, well written!

Good reading. This is an interesting story and fast moving. I found it thought provoking as life could come to the same end. Happy reading people.

Rift. Well written, fast paced YA dystopian novel which is the first of a trilogy.

An interesting read. This was a book that you can enjoy if your a sci-fi fan and if your a mystery fan it's got it all. The revelation at the end is a little obvious if your an avid fan of this genre to conclude but it's still a really good read and I will read the other books on the series. Can't wait to see how this author twists the story around.

Rift. Just finished reading this book and I'm left with good feelings. The book has a tendency to get to the point and skip over perhaps unnecessary details that other authors may use to overindulge descriptions. This leads to there being little tension in the book as to what is going to happen but personally I enjoy this form of story telling. The concept is interesting and I look forward to reading the next book.

Great read. Very entertaining read, hard to put down as you just want to know what is really going on in this world! I am a bit disappointed that the characters seem a bit cold or distant, it would be nice if they could give us a little more of themselves. But overall I enjoyed it quite a bit. Thanks!

Rift. Amazing book, hopefully one of many in the series, I'm now searching for the next as we speak ...

Rift. Great story love the two main characters, looking forward to the next book

Rift. A very enjoyable read, picked it up and couldn't put it down till I had finished, give us more please

A great idea , ideal for some light reading. I really enjoyed this. I think the author has done well to create a world that keeps you asking questions. The plot has good potential and hopefully the future instalments will develop the characters in a bit more depth. I read this over two weeks and i have to say I can't wait to find out just what on earth is really going on in this brilliant little series. Book 2, here I come!

Rift. Great story. Couldn't put it down.

Rift. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great characters & an enthralling storyline.

Rift. Great read very interesting want the sequel

A pleasant surprise. Not my usual style but I found this one to be a genuine page turner. Couldn’t stop reading until I found out what was going to happen. I’ll definitely be buying the rest of the series.

Pretty good. Promising story line. Believable character development. A bit too many coincidences for my taste, but story moves ahead at a good pace.

Great read!. Compelling story line and characters. Looking forward to the next book!

Andreas Christensen "Rift". Great introduction to the series. I am looking forward to reading the next book. Well done Andreas.

Rift ~ Well Worth The Read. I really enjoyed this book. It's hard to come up with new ideas and settings that haven't already been covered by other authors of this genre. This book does that and more!! Definitely two thumbs up, 👍🏻👍🏻, and a 5 star rating!! 🌟💫🌟💫🌟💫🌟💫🌟 (I know, that's technically 10 stars but they are all well earned)!! IG ~ @orcanut
