The Last Necromancer by C.J. Archer Book Summary

Victorian London: For five years, Charlotte (Charlie) Holloway has lived as a boy in the slums. But when one theft too many gets her arrested, her only means of escape lies with a dead man. Charlie hasn't raised a spirit since she first discovered she could do so five years ago. That time, her father banished her. This time, she brings even more trouble upon herself.

People are now hunting Charlie all over London, but only one man succeeds in capturing her.

Lincoln Fitzroy is the mysterious head of a secret organization on the trail of a madman who needs a necromancer to control his newly "made" creatures. There was only one known necromancer in the world - Charlotte - but now there appears to be two. Lincoln captures the willful Charlie in the hopes the boy will lead him to Charlotte. But what happens when he discovers the boy is in fact the young woman he's been searching for all along? And will she agree to work for the man who held her against her will, and for an organization she doesn't trust?

Because Lincoln and his ministry might be just as dangerous as the madman they're hunting.

I would definitely recommend. This book is definitely worth a read. The main character Charlie(Charlotte) is strong, powerful, and independent while also carrying some glaring weaknesses that cause her to need the help of others in certain situations. The addition of necromancy in this novel is very intriguing and flows well into the storyā€™s plot-lines but if you are looking for some heavy magic use this book lacks true depth and experimentation or practical application of her magic. I assume the later novels will have a lot more of her powers being tested and used, but for now the book focuses on building the personalities and world view she lives in which in and of itself is amazing and totally worth it.

Creative and Fresh. I truly enjoyed the approach and thought process of CJ Archer in writing this book. It was creative and fun and felt so fresh. Loved the book. Canā€™t wait to continue the series.

Fast paced exciting book.. Canā€™t wait to read more.

A Ridiculous Romance. I picked up this book hoping for some mad science, but mostly got a rather ridiculous awkward romance instead. Well written and moves along at a good clip, but really wasn't what I had hoped for.

The Necromancer. Great read! I rarely give a 5 star but this deserves one. Camie12 1 20 2024

Great Read. I love this serious lol

Exciting, Fun, maybe inappropriate?. I really enjoyed this story! That first chapter really started this off thrilling, scary, dirty, and supernatural but it lightens up a big chunk in the middle. And the end really fizzles out just to set up the next book. Spoiler: Iā€™m not sure how I feel about an 18 y.o. and 30 y.o. Will they/wonā€™t they love tension. As a 33 year old, its hard for me to fathom that dynamic but it was fun to read. Looking forward to the development and growth of our main character in the next book.

Multiple mysteries. This book is a page turner from the moment you begin reading. Character development is thorough and left this reader feeling like the characters came to life on the page. One mystery after another is slowly revealed as we learn more about the main character, Charlie, who, we find out, has been hiding something very important. When finally the mysterious V.F. was revealed I was happily surprised and gratified how well things began to be tied together. Read this as soon as you can. This is the beginning of another great series by C.J. Archer; personally I canā€™t wait.

Great story, well written. Good first person POV fantasy Victorian adventure with some nice tension.

Captivating story. This book holds my very interest in fantasy mystery. I chose to read this book on the hopes of achieving my daily reading goals. Surprisingly, I couldnā€™t stop reading the book. I finished reading the book after few hours. The storyline line was engrossing. I was totally immersed in the book. Trust me this book is a must read!. Unfortunately, only Book 1 was free and after reading, it drives you with urges to buy and read the the other 10 parts of the book. Sadly, I donā€™t have $4.99 for each other part of the book.

Erā€¦. I wanted to like this book and I tried really hard to. I was, in fact, enjoying it quite a bit but with each chapter the writer made me question more and more whether they actually liked the characters they were writing or if they hated them. Spoilers below Strong female lead turned into wilting damsel in distress? Broody mysterious male lead just a bully and kind of a stupid pseudo-detective? Above all though what really got me was WHAM Frankenstein out of nowhere. You read that correctly. Maybe the author thinks they laid the groundwork there but it really took the story from an interesting concept to a rushed overdone trope for me. DNF.

Solid read!. Solid read. Grabs your attention at the very start. Sizzles down in the middle but then gets interesting toward the end.

The Last Necromancer. This book kept me coming back for more. The characters were well developed to the point where I could visualize each of them. The little ruffian Charlie was very likable in spite of his street ways. His later transformation only made the story more interesting. The twists and turns in the story were unexpected, as was the ending. I breathed a sigh of relief when cook, Gus, Seth, Charlie and Fitzroy all ended up safe and together. At the very end of the story, Charlie goes to the cemetery to visit her mother's grave and spies two men stealing a corpse. A perfect basis for a sequel. The Last Necromancer is definitely worth reading!

Good book certainly worth the price!. This was a pretty good book all in all. It was fun to read, and developed a decent bond between character and reader. The book may be a bit simple and predictable, but I often find those can be the most fun books to read as I fly through the pages. I found the book worthwhile enough to purchase book 2 in the series, if that is any indication of its value. Certainly not on the level of say "Interview with a Vampire", but at the same time I found this book an enjoyable read that I would recommend. I am always on the hunt for undervalued books to read and this was certainly a wonderful surprise.

Great read!. I'm so impressed with this author--this book is well written and well polished. It was an enjoyable read and I definitely plan to continue the series. I loved Charlie, and I found the other characters intriguing as well. The plot is fast paced and never boring. I highly recommend this read!

Thrilling!!! Love it!!!. At first I had a hard time getting into the book but once I read further the more thrilling the story had become. I love books that are about supernatural beings and good endings and I cannot wait to read the next book!!!

Great book!. Great read! Good story and character development. Too short!!

Nora Williamson. I just canā€™t wait to read this book šŸ“–!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved it - read it in a day. Someone commented that it was disappointing because he/she enjoyed it enough that they now needed to spend money to continue the story. I didnā€™t even realize it was free, so thank you to the reviewer. I think it was fantastic, and already gladly purchased book 2 for a whopping $2.99. I would have paid more.

Last Necromancer. Decided to check this book out since I had read CJ Archer's Freak House books. I must say this series is my favorite of all the related series. The characters have great personalities and are very entertaining. Can't wait for book 9.

Barely interesting. Decent just not great.

I ā¤ļø Charlie & Lincoln. I stumbled across book one because it was free. I was pulled into the characters & found my self soon buying the other 6 books. Each book leaves you wanting to know what happens next. I will be recommending this series to my friends.

Entertaining, somewhat predictable. Charlie was an engaging heroine and the book moved quickly. The romantic plot and denouement were both a bit predictable, but the heroine was likable enough that those flaws could be overlooked.

The Last Nachromancer. What twisted turn the allyā€™s of London take is this exciting tale of mystical secrets, and mysteries as caring friendships are formed and history is revisited! All from start to finish a very interesting journey!

The Last Necromancer. Great depth to this book and the author has unveiled a passionate couple we as readers get very attached to. Well done. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. KSW

Fantastic book. The title of this review says it all.

Amazing. This was an amazing book. So far I have read it six times and the thrill is real. i really wish the other books were free so I can read them to. I would recommend this book to young adults for reasons.

A love story with a hint of fantasy. Dont come looking for a true fantasy here just a love story with three accidental incidences of necromancy beginning middle and end which kept me reading.

Quite Enjoyable. Enjoyed all the twists and turns mystery, full of events ,how descriptive setting was put me right where character s are I love how easily I connected with the characters definitely will and must continue to read the continued books

Great story. I was really intrigued when I first downloaded this book but the plot was so interesting and unexpected that I fell in love with the series. The characters are amazing and complex with give the story more depth. Thrilling till the end!

Good but not enough for 10 books. Came back to write this review after finishing the 7th book in this 10 book series. The story is entertaining but thereā€™s not enough to it to string out over ten books. Itā€™s very thin and should probably have ended around book 6. As a reader I feel pretty short-changed as Iā€™ve paid for the books this far but gotten half a story as Iā€™ve decided not to buy the final three books; Iā€™m bored. I wish Iā€™d not started the series!

I don't give 5* lightly.. Music creating apps will prove that. This book is brilliant. And that the characters are continuing in a series is icing on the weirdo cake. Loved it. I even got a reply from the author herself. Dr.Frankenstein is included in a very unique story in its darkness and light at the same time.

Fantastic. Bought the whole series so far, not disappointed. Great read and looking forward to further additions!

The only review you need. Unlike majority of books in the English language, C.J. Archerā€™s books never fail to sweep you off your feet into a descriptive fantasy realm. As a non-native English speaker, it is extremely hard to find a decently written book that will match the quality and attention to detail of Polish/Russian books, simply because these languages are incomparably more vibrant. C.J. Archer breaks this barrier and matches the best books out there. You will not be disappointed.

Another great read. I've read all of C J Archers books, and this book doesn't fail on my high expectations of it. Another fantastic gripping story that I found hard to put down. These story's are so easy to read and with a 17 month old running about I need a bit of escapism, but that's not too heavy going. You get attached to the characters and I love how you can continue to follow their story's as you follow the series. I also like how characters from other series can show up and be intwined in the current books she writes. All in all I highly recommend reading this book along with all her other stories.

Hooked. I'm actually on the sixth book I this series now but I felt compelled to write a review. It's been a while since I have read such a great paranormal series and have to say it's like far and few in between. I feel like I understand all the characters and they are so well written I want to keep on reading more and more.

Mumma Sass. This is a great book and story line. I can not wait to read the rest.

Well Written. This book was amazingly well written and has given the characters a lot of personality. Although this book is not my particular cup of tea, if you like mystery and fantasy I think you'll enjoy this book quite well.

Loving CJ Archer. Another great story by CJ Archer! I'm a lover of historical romance and I'm quickly getting addicted to these paranormal twists to my fave genre. I couldn't put this one down :)

A fantastic new series to read. The best new author I have read in a while. Mystery, supernatural, suspense, characters with depth. I will be reading all CJ Archers novels now a fantastic Australian author.

Entertaining enough. This is an interesting tale. It started more so than it finished. I liked the characters of Charlie/Charlotte, Fitzroy, Gus, and Seth. There was a good balance of humour. I had thought that Charlieā€™s ā€˜giftā€™ could have been demonstrated more.

Quite enjoyable reading. It was an enjoyable read, story wasnā€™t heavy going & storyline was ā€˜darkā€™ enough to satisfy my preferences. Iā€™ll be downloading the next book in the series.

Scrumptious!. Truly, iā€™ll never forget taking this first bite (The Last Necromancer) of the exquisite feast that is the Ministry of Curiosities series....but I already know iā€™m going to wish I could erase my memory when itā€™s done so I can come back and take that first bite again..and again...

Fun introduction. I enjoyed this book, I read it in a day, however, it did feel like the first half an hour of a movie in that it is setting the scene for future instalments. I liked all the charecters and their interactions, especially between Charlie, Gus and Seth. Iā€™m looking forward to seeing what happens next.

An interesting premise, but poorly executed.. An interesting premise, but after reading the first two chapters, I had to stop. The writing, especially the dialogue, makes it difficult to connect with the lead character.

loved it. I was maybe a little skeptical of the cover and the word ā€˜necromancerā€™ but very very quickly became addicted to this book! its so well written and the characters have depth. the pace is perfect and the tension makes the book unputdownable. after reading this I immediatly pre ordered the sequel - and loved that too!

Geegee. A fantastic read couldn't put it down, will enjoy reading the next instalment.

AMAZING. Freaking love this book and the second one. I'm so saddened I have to wait until November for more!!!!

Reason for a lazy day..... I only just found and started reading books by C. J. Archer this year and I have totally devoured every single one. Waking with only a few hours sleep or going with a semi clean house for the week cause I have spent a beautiful Saturday and Sunday on my back porch curled up with one of her books. This book is by no means is any different. I enjoyed this page turner immensely. I look forward to the next and every book afterwards that she releases.

Wow!! So good!. What an incredible read! I got it for free, and couldnā€™t put it down. Already planning on getting more in the series! I need to find out what Charlie learns about her mother.

Good. Entertaining reading

Interesting. I spent time reading itā€™s very light but I like that a nice book to read on the go I liked it

Amazing. Loved this supernatural story. Had me hooked for more. JackieT
