Him by Elle Kennedy & Sarina Bowen Book Summary

They don't play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley's biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he'll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend…and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinny-dipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

"I read HIM in one sitting—it's so, so good! If I had to pick two authors who I'd have team up, it would be Bowen and Kennedy"

Him. Him was the first gay romance I've read. And it blew my mind now every time I read a gay romance I expect it to be like this one. But it doesn't come close.

A personal myth buster!. I haven't read very many books featuring males as the the romantic love interests. I've enjoyed the few that I have, but none as much as this one. This will be the book I compare all future new adult m/m books too and I don't say that lightly. I've always understood and accepted homosexuality, but I wasn't ever able to bring myself to read romance novels about it. I've certainly read my fair share of erotica with menages, but two guys by them selves wasn't ever a priority. I'm not exactly sure why but I discounted the feelings and emotions guys can have. I thought I wouldn't feel the same emotional connection as I would with a heterosexual couple or be able to relate to the protagonists. I was wrong. I was really surprised by how much I could relate to Wes. He comes across as confident and secure, yet when it comes to Jaime, the person he's loved for so long, he's skittish and terrified. I understood why his fears and his reasons even when he said and did things I didn't think were helpful or right. I loved Wes's personality. He was wild and up for anything. He was also kind, considerate, caring, driven, and talented. He knew what he wanted to do and he was going to make it happen. I loved how he was himself and didn't try to fit into whatever mold others wanted him to. I really liked Jaime too. Compared to Wes he was more relaxed and laid back. I loved the wisdom he gave as a counselor to his campers. It was as deep as it was simple. While I feel like Jaime had the upper hand in the relationship, I liked how he never abused it. I also felt like Jaime was the wild card in the story. Even being in both his and Wes's head never really made what they wanted completely clear. I loved the insight I got from it. I loved how Jaime was with his family. They were such an open, loving bunch. I completely got why Wes envied Jaime for that; Wes's parents were horrendous. Wes and Jaime had some amazing emotional and physical chemistry. I knew from the get go Wes was attracted to Jaime, but it was interesting watching Jaime figure out what he wanted. The intimate scenes between them were scorching hot. I mean I was seriously turned on! This book was full of surprises for me. I was surprised by how often I laughed and even by a few tears. Even more so were how many of my misconceptions about m/m romance were dispelled. Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy did a phenomenal job at writing this book. It's written seamlessly and you can't tell where one started writing and the other stopped. I'd definitely recommend this book to people looking for characters with a strong emotional connection with lots of hot, steamy sex!

Great book. I never read, I picked this book up and couldn’t put it down. I needed to keep reading to find out what happened next. Now I need to read the next book in the series.

Read it!. I loved this book so much definitely worth the read Wes and Jaime are really sweet together 10/10. Bookfairy93

A MUST READ!. Very well written, maintains your attention......and honestly portrays LGBTQ life in the closet, or outside of it.

Nothing special. This book was really boring and gross. Wes is to clingy and their relationship is super cringe. Half of the story is about them having sex. Not surprised Hoover is a fan of this book, because her books are bad as well. The fan base are high schoolers cuz this book isn’t the best.

Amazing. This book made me cry twice so for me that’s huge. This book is funny and so sweet dealing with first love and what everyone goes through when figuring themselves out. Ugh. It was phenomenal. So happy I found this book.

Pleasantly Surprised. Honestly, my hopes weren’t super high for this book. LGBTQ romances aren’t always done well. This one was complex and interesting enough to keep my interest, the characters are realistic, and the conflicts are relatable and genuine. I enjoyed this book far more than I expected, and I’d recommend it for sure.

Excellent!. Very well-written, honest, and made me more sensitive and aware of the struggles gays face in society. Love these two characters!

Heartwarming and Passionate. I can honestly say that this is one if not the best M/M romance novel I’ve ever read. The struggles of the LGBTQ+ community is portrayed accurately and the fact that the ending was happy made the novel all the better. Certain books and movies tend to end LGBTQ+ movies in sad heart wrenching endings. It’s so refreshing to read a good storyline that finally portrays love as love, and that anything is possible because of it. Hahaha can you tell I’m a sucker for romance ;)

love love love. this is literally my new favorite book like ever- i binged it and read it in two and a half hours.

Joyful. Even when the story had some stops pulled out to create that tension every good book has, I held my joy close. I can say this book brought joyful feelings and many happy reading squeals!! Highly recommend for those who enjoy an open mind.

He is my home. Jamie Canning and Ryan Wesley have been best friends since they met at Hockey Camp in their middle school years. After a drunken episode, they stopped being friends. Now, with both of them at the Frozen Four, they rekindle their friendship and start over. Ryan "Wes" Wesley is just devastated about what happened the last time they were alone. He has been in love with his best friend and hurting. Now, with a fresh start he tries to make Jamie proud of him as the best friend he can be. Only Jamie is not sure he wants to be just friends anymore. He went out to a bar with his buddy and got pretty jealous when some other guy was making the moves on him. So he kisses him. It was pretty hot. Jamie now knows he is interested in more. The question is will Wes go for it? Wes is scared out of his ever loving mind. This is the love of his life, how can he say no? When he touches him - he loses all control and any remnant of sanity. After spending the summer with the person you love the most, how do you move on and go your separate ways again? Such an incredible love story! I was laughing and crying right along with the main characters They are charming, honest, loyal, and talented.

Love this book. Favorite chapters: 13 & 14 ❤️

Him. A very enjoyable read.

Adore this book!. It's the first mm I've ever read and it's wonderful! I love this one and the second one, Us. 5 stars for sure!

Loved it!. Loved it!

Kismet. From the opening lines, it’s clear that Him is going to be a friendship to lovers story, but we get so much more in this M/M sports romance. See, Wes and Jamie are two young men with very different family backgrounds, and unique paths, as they learn how to rectify who they are and what they want versus what’s expected of them. They are young collegiate hockey players both with promising futures in front of them and from the first moments we see them interacting with each other, it’s clear they have one of those connections, something way beyond friendship and a connection they really need to stop fighting. Him is written from the two perspectives of our central characters and really builds insight into how they were raised and how they face their futures. Wes is isolated, with parents that are as cold and uninvolved as can be. He carries the weight of his promise, a future star in the world of hockey as his rookie season approaches. Jamie however comes from an incredibly loving and supportive family. That background gives him the character to accept his growing feelings for Wes. He isn’t quite sure what he wants to do. Certainly hockey as part of his future and it's clear he enjoys coaching. It’s almost kismet that the summer camp that brought them together in the first place, brings them back together. Almost only because one of them can’t seem to move past what they experienced years before. Their mutual attraction is undeniable and for most of the book, we observe them falling in love AND embracing the feeling. Sure it’s not entirely accepted, a romantic relationship between them would shake up their worlds and potentially tornado their futures. It’s surprising (and yet not), which one pursues the potential of building a future together. Him is an incredibly steamy book and the erotic scenes are very, very well done. It’s not just sex, not at all, and the connection between Wes and Jamie is solidified in these scenes. I’ve read a few of Elle Kennedy’s stories ( to date The Off-Campus series) and Sarina Bowen is new to me (not that I don’t already own a few of her books, I’m incented to move those up in my TBR). This writing duo makes for a magic combination and are certainly go to authors in the NYA and M/M genre (lest we forget sub-genre of college hockey and boys to men stories). I’m looking forward to more co-authoring from these ladies.

Loved. Loved the Novel took me to happy place definitely worth the read!

❤️. I absolutely feel in love with these characters. The sex scenes are hot but the story is what sells it. Such beautiful characters!!! Love love love!

Have to. This was definitely stimulating couldn’t put it down can’t wait to read the next one

This book was phenomenal. This was hot and steamy, funny, romantic, and all around fantastic! Need a smut book? Look no further.

Really good. I really enjoyed this story. I guess every gay guy has that straight best friend they fell for as a teen. This is that fantasy realized. I also loved that they weren't your stereotypical gay guys. It was well written, looking forward to the sequel.

Great series. Re-read: I loved this story even more this time than i did the first time i read it. I love Jamie and Wes! Can't wait to start the next book. *************************** Original reveiw Read from July 28 to 30, 2015 4 stars Great read. I loved Jamie and Wes. GFY is my favorite MM genre. Wes was great and super sweet. And i like how Jamie jumped right in, but it was realistic because he was scared about others finding out. For some reason i kept thinking they were in high school then i was like, no wait they're 22 lol. but overall really good story.

Great book, even if you don’t know much about hockey. Based on descriptions for the next books in the series, I figured out how the book would likely end. Even with that, I still thoroughly enjoyed the book. The sexy scenes fit in well with the overall story. Don’t hesitate to give this book a chance.

Amazing!. This is my first m/m book I've ever read and holy moly! So freakin hot and amazingly sweet. I was hooked from the first chapter. My biggest problem with this book was that I started reading it right before I started work and had to wait a whole 8 freakin hours to continue it. Highly recommended!

Beautiful story. Loved this story! So much courage, strength and love in these pages and a real eye opener into what it takes to discover who you are and then own it.

Loved it!. This was the first M/M book I have read. Decided to give it a try and was not disappointed! You will become so invested in the guys and can't help but picture 2 sexy guys in some hot positions.

Sexy and sweet.. Loved this book. It was a great romance with two strong main characters. It was great to see two people fall in love because of the person, not the gender. This was the first m/m I've read and I would easily recommend it to anyway who likes a hot romantic read.

Read this book but not with your family around 😂. What a great book. I honestly couldn’t put it down. It’s such a spicy book too which I loved. Wes and Jamie are such a cute couple.

Him. Great book!

Him. I LOVE the two boys in this book. It's so well written and the book was amazing. I couldn't wait to see how it turned out. I'm not gay or a lesbian but this book was still hot hot hot. The characters you have to fall in love with. When everything is all said and done....it's about love no matter two boys or two girls this is a great love story. I can hardly wait until I read the second one. Great job hope to see more. I'm a fan.
