Someone Like You by Lauren Layne Book Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Lauren Layne’s bestselling Oxford Series continues with the poignant, heartwarming story of New York’s most eligible bachelor, Lincoln Mathis, a man who’s living a lie—until his dream woman takes away the pain.

Lincoln Mathis doesn’t hide his reputation as Manhattan’s ultimate playboy. In fact, he cultivates it. But behind every flirtatious smile, each provocative quip, there’s a secret that Lincoln’s hiding from even his closest friends—a tragedy from his past that holds his heart quietly captive. Lincoln knows what he wants: someone like Daisy Sinclair, the sassy, off-limits bridesmaid he can’t take his eyes off at his best friend’s wedding. He also knows that she’s everything he can never have.

After a devastating divorce, Daisy doesn’t need anyone to warn her off the charming best man at her sister’s wedding. One look at the breathtakingly hot Lincoln Mathis and she knows that he’s exactly the type of man she should avoid. But when Daisy stumbles upon Lincoln’s secret, she realizes there’s more to the charming playboy than meets the eye. And suddenly Daisy and Lincoln find their lives helplessly entwined in a journey that will either heal their damaged souls . . . or destroy them forever.

“Lincoln and Daisy’s tale is expertly crafted, full of wit and heart. Layne is equally adept at writing heartbreaking portrayals of grief and scenes of steamy passion that will get hearts racing. Exemplary contemporary romance.”—Library Journal

One of my favorites. I just spent the past 2 weeks reading all Stiletto/Oxford books. Every one of them have been amazing and heartfelt but this one was good enough to actually make me cry. The backstory of Lincoln Mathis was so tragic and beautiful my heart actually ached for him. Well done, Lauren. Loved every moment.

Such witty writing. Love this author. Such a great sense of humor and so witty

Good. Honestly was not what I expected but it wasn’t a bad novel either, it had its good and bad moments, over all I enjoyed it.

Lincoln Lincoln Lincoln *sigh*. Another great book from LL! I actually kept avoiding reading this book. So much anticipation, I wanted it to just keep building. But once I started, I fell in love. Lincoln & daisy were literally like ying and yang. Such great complements to the other! & I love how much we saw the rest of the gang. This is probably one of my favorite series!

Wow!. I didn’t think I could love a Lauren Layne story more than the love story of Sam&Riley or even Emma&Cassidy, but wow…..I cried real tears at multiple times during this story and laughed so hard I had to reread the section just to find myself laughing again. This group of friends is a group you just want to dive into, but the love stories on their own are incredible. Lincoln and Daisy will make you feel every emotion and then some. Definitely worth the read!

Loved it!. Two wounded souls, past memories and heartache keep holding them hostage ... until their eyes meet across a room and a true connection is made. They just simply GET each other ... they talk, they laugh, they share secrets ... and along the way they start to fall for each other ... but can the past let them go enough to be happy again? This was such a good read! It was sad and meaningful, and also fun and flirty. I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud at their sassy antics. Love this group of characters! Lincoln Mathis has the rep of a major ladies man, and he likes it. He needs the buffer to protect himself from a past he doesn't want to share with even his closest friends, but when Daisy Sinclair steps into his life, he sees a kindred spirit who can see through his walls because she has her own set built around her heart as well. Daisy went through a heartbreaking divorce that left scars on her heart that no one even knows about. She's hidden herself away from life for so long that she doesn't know if she has it in her to get out there again. When she becomes friends with Lincoln, she can be comfortable with someone for the first time in a long time. He just gets her. As they each work towards healing themselves, they lean on each other and slowly start to like the support they have and want more ... but can they let their walls down once and for all to achieve it?

Loved It!. This is the third book in the Oxford series and each book is a standalone, although the characters are interconnected. Daisy meets Lincoln when she attends her sister Emma’s wedding. Lincoln has a reputation as a womanizer and Emma warns Daisy to stay away from him. Daisy however, sees something in Lincoln that no one else seems to notice. Lincoln hides his unhappiness behind a charming smile but Daisy senses his sadness and vulnerability. Daisy never pushes Lincoln to share his feeling and she doesn't run after him, like most women. Women are so enthralled with Lincoln’s good looks, they are constantly throwing themselves at him. Daisy is the first women Lincoln has encountered that only wants to be his friend. For once, Lincoln can relax and be himself with a woman. Lincoln and Daisy have a connection and they intuitively understand each other. They are tortured souls trying to recover from their pasts and they are uncomfortable sharing their feeling with anyone, but somehow, they can open up with each other. As Lincoln and Daisy get to know each other, Lincoln finds himself falling for Daisy and he isn't sure how to deal with his feelings. As these two become closer, Lincoln gives Daisy mixed signals and he inadvertently hurts her. I liked Lincoln and Daisy, they help each other work through their issues and they share a lot of chemistry. I also loved all the secondary characters and thought they added lightness and fun to the story. There is a lot banter between this entertaining group of friends. They have a comment for everything and are constantly interfering in each other’s lives. I really enjoyed this funny, emotional story and I kept reading to find out what Lincoln would do next.

Drop dead delicious. It's one of those books you laugh and you cry and you suffer along the characters. Gut wrenching, soul searing, sexy as hell. The first one I've read on the series and I can't wait to read the others!

Great. A must read! Loved it from beginning to end.

Loved it!. Lauren Layne did it again! This was such a great book from beginning to end! I loved reading Lincoln's story...it's definitely a must read!

. A roller-coaster ride of emotions. I took my time with this – reread the Sex, Love and Stiletto series and then the first two of Oxford JUST to make sure I was primed and ready for Lincoln’s story. Oh Lincoln – enjoyed you from the first flippant comment, your habit of holding everyone at arm’s length just because you are working really hard to prove to everyone who you are. Guess what – you don’t have to anymore…. We know your secrets and if it is possible, love you even more for them and your attempts to cover them up. Fortunately for you Daisy couldn’t bear to be away from Emma much longer, and after her divorce she ran off and headed to New York. It just so happened to be coming up to the wedding, and you’ve been warned off her repeatedly-but still – she catches your eye every time. But you have told yourself she is hands-off, and you are determined that you will, this time, follow through. Daisy can see right through Lincoln’s façade, and many (her sister Emma included) think she’s deluding herself. But when he shared his story with her, and let her in just a little, she KNEW he was the man for her. Now it’s just a matter of convincing him of that fact. Lauren Layne has made us wait for this one – perhaps because achieving that balance of emotion as she rips your heart from your chest only to wrap it up with a bow and give us moments so sweet and heartfelt that you can’t put away the tissues fast enough. A roller-coaster ride of emotions, readers will need to come with tissues (boxes), a cold drink and some sparkling confetti to throw about at the end. There couldn’t have been a better match for Lincoln, and his story is perfectly suited to him. You don’t have to read the other books in the Oxford Series or even in the Sex, Love and Stiletto series – but this will be a better experience for having done so. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Lincoln’s story will warm and break your heart. The best book in this series! Lincoln’s story is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I love the Oxford guys and could happily read a book just about them hanging out at work. Anyone else with me?

My favorite from this author!. Loved this so much!

Powerful Romance - Trust and Love. This story will stick with you for sometime after reading. It is an emotional, steamy, and heartfelt read. The author grabs your attention from the beginning and keeps your attention to the end. Lincoln and Daisy are both going through some difficult struggles in their life and the reader could feel their emotions. Boy, could you ever feel their emotions. I think this is why the story stays with you. Just thinking about this story I start to feel some of the emotions that Lincoln and Daisy went through. This was a powerful story of trust and learning to love again! "Someone Like You" by Lauren Layne is book number three in the "Oxford" series. This is Manhattan's ultimate playboy, Lincoln Mathis and Daisy Sinclair's story. Lincoln has a reputation for being a playboy and doesn't do anything to hide it. He has secrets from his past that his closest friends don't know. At his best friends wedding he meets the bride's twin sister, Daisy. Lincoln is attracted to her but she is off limits to him in more ways than you think. When Daisy meets Lincoln she sees this good looking and sweet talking playboy. After going through a terrible divorce Lincoln is the type guy that she needs to avoid. As the story progresses Daisy finds out about Lincoln's secret. She realizes that there is more to Lincoln than what he portrays to his friends. But Lincoln is not the only one with secrets from the past. Lincoln's character was amazing. Daisy and Lincoln are perfect for one another. Will they be able to love again? A fun and steamy read that really tugs at your heart. This is a ride you do not want to miss! FYI, includes mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Oh my gosh. What in the heck! I can’t even with this book! This book was by far the BEST book of the Oxford series’s!! It had me happy and sad and happy again and rooting for Lincoln! Ugh I’m so sad it had to end but it was happy ending and happy tears! I’m still in awe! Well done!

Timing. This is book is # 3 in the Oxford series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and understanding, I recommend reading this series in order. Lincoln is known as a playboy to all his friends and colleagues. The truth is so far from this that it could be in another country. When he finally meets the brides twin sister Daisy, the he has someone to confide in. Daisy is not sure what to make of Lincoln. One thing they have in common in a lonely heart. They see the truth in each other's eyes. Maybe starting as friends is the best way to get a relationship going This series continues to blow me away! All the Oxford men are HOT! These characters are strong, have humor, and are just an all around great read. ***This ARC copy was given by Netgalley and its publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

Love it!. My favorite from the Stiletto/Oxford series!! The most heartbreaking story but also the best!!

Unexpected. What a wonderful, surprising, heartbreaking story! I was shocked by Lincoln's backstory! I knew his character from other books in the series, but this twist made his and Daisy's story so very engrossing and so very meaningful. Two damaged people come together as friends and start their healing process ------ a process that isn't smooth, isn't easy, isn't without further heartache but is oh so necessary and oh so beautiful to watch unfold.

Oh Lincoln. I knew Lincoln's story was going to be special, but this was way more than I expected. It is safe to say that Lincoln is my new favorite Stiletto/Oxford man. There is so much more to the charismatic ladies man that we have grown to love over the course of this series and it really was special to peel back all of those layers and see the "real" Lincoln. My Thoughts From the other books in this series we have met the infamous ladies man Lincoln Mathis, but what you see is not always what you get. I had a feeling this book was going to pull out all of the stops and bring all of the feels, and I was not disappointed. The man behind the reputation is incredible, his story is moving, and his journey is both heartbreaking and endearing all at the same time. Daisy is Emma's twin sister, but is so wholly and completely different from Emma that if they didn't look alike you would never know. Neither of them are what they show the world, so it is no surprise that they become fast friends. Lincoln lets her see behind the veil so to speak and both of their worlds change from that moment on. I loved every second of this book. I forced myself to slow down several times so that I could savor the story a little more and have it last just a little longer. After 2 readings I still think this is my favorite Lauren Layne book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it if you like strong characters that grab you from page 1 and don't let go until long after you have finished the story.

Heart rendering romance. Barely ten percent into the story, I was thinking this was the Lincoln I've been waiting for, his own story. Then the true story begins, taking a twist that literally made me sit up and take notice of who Lincoln really is. I am in awe of Ms Layne's writing genius that has created a character of such depth of emotion and loyalty. As the story unfolds, the real Lincoln continues to be revealed one layer at a time creating more awe of this author's canniness . I was continuously surprised and bowled over with how much of Lincoln's story was set up throughout the Stiletto/Oxford series, just to have all conceived notions blown out of the water in the best way possible. He and Daisy together was heartstrings pulled one minute, laugh out loud funny the next. The typical banter and clever dialog between the Oxford men is ever present, as expected, but the give and take between Lincoln and Daisy was priceless. Ms Layne has set the stage perfectly with the byplay between Nick and Taylor for their story to roll out down a new path...so looking forward to that release. This book was provided by the Publisher and Netgalley, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
