Bestselling author Daniel Silva delivers another spellbinding international thriller—one that finds the legendary Gabriel Allon grappling with an ISIS mastermind.

Gabriel Allon, the art restorer, spy, and assassin described as the most compelling fictional creation "since Ian Fleming put down his martini and invented James Bond" (Rocky Mountain News), is poised to become the chief of Israel’s secret intelligence service. But on the eve of his promotion, events conspire to lure him into the field for one final operation. ISIS has detonated a massive bomb in the Marais district of Paris, and a desperate French government wants Gabriel to eliminate the man responsible before he can strike again.

Acclaimed novelist Daniel Silva has thrilled, entertained and educated readers with eighteen thoughtful and gripping spy novels featuring a diverse cast of compelling characters and ingenious plots that have taken them around the globe and back—from the United States to Europe, Russia to the Middle East. From its shocking opening to its explosive denouement in Washington, D.C., The Black Widow reveals itself as Silva’s most timely and powerful novel yet. Following the success of his smash hit The English Spy, this electrifying thriller showcases Silva’s consummate skill and brilliant imagination, and is sure to be a must read for his multitude of current and future fans.

Not very good. It is a very long book for such a short story. Plenty of talking about action, not much action.

One Sitting. Having read each book in this series, in order, in the last year, I keep waiting to be bored. Has not happened, and this book really had my attention because it so closely mirrors the current world (maybe a little too closely; author talks about how he made the choice to publish it.) In the end, though, it's the "family we make" of unlikely members that brings me back. Like a Passover Seder, it's long held tradition + a few untraditional guests that make the gatherings. And the lessons in RT history are like taking a master class from the comfort of my tablet.

The Black Widow. Daniel Silva never disappoints. He is by far the best author! Disregard those who discuss politics, he is correct in what he says.

The black widow. I love all of this series. Spell bounding. I watch for each new book Daniel Silva writes. Can't wait for the next one!! D h

Thrilling, educational and well written!. This is easily one of Silva's best novels, if not the very best. He displays a commanding writing style, in addition to comprehensive knowledge of the Middle East and the threat of radical Islam. If you like Obama's approach to terrorism you will not like this book. As a thriller it is top notch and very believable.

The black widow. Usually I read his book at one sitting, can't put it down. Took almost a week to read this one. The last book was almost as boring. What has happened to my man?!!!!? Hate to give him a bad review but, it is what it is..Silva was one of the few authors I bought the day it came out, even before reviews, not any more........

Allon fan. This is the BEST Gabriel Allon novel ever. Could not put it down.

The Black Widow. I just finished reading Daniel Silva's newest novel in the Gabriel Allon series. It is a very timely book and seemed like it was taken front the front pages of the newspaper. An excellent and informative read!

Aaa. Today did df

#16 Still Engaging. Reading Silva's Gabriel Allon series is obviously exciting for anyone who loves thrillers. But Silva's works have an added benefit. They provide an historical window into today's troubled Middle East. Read #16 to enjoy and to learn.

Wonderful. Another masterful tale from Mr. Silva. This one was a little deeper in background subject coverage, but necessarily so. Silvia's passion shines through again--as it always does--but his scholarship and his unblinking political and historical eye were on display here to great advantage. Just when I'd begun to fear that Gabriel was outliving the potential for any future villains of stature, Silva starts us again. Bravo!

Amazing Book!. One of my favorites! 007 with a modern twist.

Topical spy thriller. This is my eighth completed Danial Silva novel and they get better and better. This was the best. Very topical, great narrative, wonderful descriptions and thoroughly researched. Fast paced when it needed and slow paced when reflection was required. Great read.

Awesome Thriller. I have read all of these books and they just get better and better. The stories seem to be taken out of current newspapers and a lot of time it seems that Daniel has a crystal ball! This is a thriller from start to finish! This is another awesome thriller! !

Fantastic Read. Silva again writes a thrilling read. While fiction, it exposes so many truths about the real threats we face today as a society. Big fan of all of his works.

you have read this before. I agree with at least one other review. You have read this before. The story and the main character have run its course. If you have read at least one of his books of the serious everything will seem. The polemic seems to get thicker with every book.

The Black Widow. A spell bounding book that at the same time educates you with the history of the current conflict and birth of new wave of terrorism from the Middle East.

A Book of Truths. Up to this date, the best book written by Silva! Our current political administrations incompetence has created this problem and with the continued worlds perseverance we will win this battle. Long live Silva and his wonderful writings!

Great read. Silva continues to write in depth novels with interesting characters on par with Clancy, Grisholm, Flynn and Baldacci. Author has done his research and delivers a book well worth reading.

Good Read, but.... This Silva novel is one of his best, however it bugs me that he continues to idolize the Israelis. Several have praised him for telling "real" the story of the turmoil in the Middle East. However, he completely ignores the 500 pound gorilla in the room: Israel's illegal and immoral plundering and humiliation of the Palestinians in the occupied territories. This more than anything fuels the Arabs hatred of Israel and America.

Unstoppable. Like so many others, I anxiously await the next installment of Gabriel Allon's life. Mr. Allon's uncanny astuteness, his knowledge of the inevitable, his dry wit....his emotional devotion to Israel, to its people and the people he loves...all this and more, make him my most favorite character to delve into, and I thank Mr Silva profusely for those few days each year when I am granted the luxury of reacquainting myself with Gabriel Allon. The Black Widow brought the horrors of everyday Middle East fears to America. And it scared the hell out of me.

Another hit. Thank you Mr. Silva for intelligent and spellbinding story telling. May Gabriel live on for many more thrilling adventures.

Loved it.. Great summer vacation page turner.

Black Widow. His best one of all. Even better one of the best ever by anyone. It feel like the last one. I hope not. Than you sir for a great ride.

The black widow. Fantastic!! Silva is a great writer of the genre. I never tire of these characters and his research is spot on.

Awesome. Great book. Can't wait for the next one.

Disappointed. Having read all the Silva books, this one is the most disappointing with an over-used art restoration tie-in formula and the list of usual "Office"characters adding nothing to a weak, non suspense filled, depressing story. The book seems to want the reader to believe that stupidity, especially among the hero and his international friends, are the catalyst. The story has no real or emotional moving connections to the sad heroine. The ending and, in my opinion, offers minimal hope for any further Gabriel Allon books. Too bad

Great read!. Wonderful story, albeit rather frightening. Well written, great character depth & realistic scenarios. I have read all the Allon books, but this may be the most realistic of the series!! Hard to put down

The Black Widow. The Gabriel Alon books are so well written and so real. Gabriel is a top notch operator but also human and this is what gives this character life. I'm wondering if the next installment will be with him running the office and Michael out in the field. I wait with baited breath for the next great book.

The Black Widow. I loved h the plot and how the characters are inter-woven. I also like how the characters are continued from book to book.

The black widow. More a polemic than a novel.

Black widow. Predictable, boring, repetitive History and politics repetitive P and boring

Silva has forgotten how to write thrills. It has come to this. Author Daniel Silva has written a boring historical tract that demeans all of the Gabriel Allon novels that have come before. He has ignored the basic rules of thriller writing and has delivered a dull lecture that is presented in pedantic terms. He also insults his readers by acting as if we have forgotten all the similar history he covered in previous Allon novels. The entire book is a repetition of his other works, but made worse by the first 200 or so pages in which Silva repeats, in dreary fashion, the backstory and individual attributes of Allon's select group of Office members. He also feels the need to remind of us of the overly familiar history of Israel. Similar sentence structure and even actual phrasing from all the other books fill the pages. With plotting that is the same, characters that are the same, and a villain that is like every other terrorist that Silva has concocted, Silva has done a disservice to his fans. Perhaps most shocking is how generic the writing is. The sentence structure is slow and clunky, as if Professor Silva doesn't think his "students," we the readers, understand basic English. He plods long in unexpressive terms. We are not children, Mr. Silva. Why maintain the charade that Allon should run the Office? Why load thousands of familiar descriptions into the prose? So what if the book would only be 300-words instead of more than 500? At least it would flow better. Silva also needs to get Allon and his familiar team into new settings, fresh places for their adventures. He's overworked Paris and Israel to the point of exhaustion. The novel hectors us rather than excites us. Silva needs to get out of his rut, perhaps create a new main character, perhaps take a few years off from his once a year effort to publish an Allon book. How many times can he go to the well of finding an unexpecting recruit to help the Office? The doctor chosen in this novel is uninteresting. Silva has written a book that is wildly unoriginal. At least save your money and wait for paperback pricing and steeper discounts. You're not missing anything in rushing to read this. In fact, you already have read it, in every other Silva-Allon novel.

Excellent. This book is great! The subject matter of Isis and terrorism is difficult but an eye opener in many aspects. The undercover operations and fast paced story line throughout the Middle East and Europe is excellent. I highly recommend this book.

Black widow. Excellent book in Gabrielle Allon series

Black Widow. Silva has written another 5 star read combining history and current events with compelling characters.
