Mmmm Jake is yummy. So, Jake is a total alpha (wiggles eyebrows). I honestly wasn’t so sure how much I was going to like him at first. He had some issues, but they were actually not at all what I thought they were. I jumped to conclusions before finding out the full truth. It’s a doozy. By the time the story was over, I was begging Jake to please come and take me. He’s ‘all that’ and more (licking him in my mind right now). Camile and Jake are a super couple. He’s a six foot four rock solid ex soldier. She’s the daughter of one of the wealthiest men in England and a model. He was hired to protect her, but the dangers aren’t exactly easily pinned down. I enjoyed The Protector. It has action, mystery and loads of sexy.

Another hit by Jodi Ellen Malpas. First thing. Jake was not Jessie or Miller so don't go into the book looking for them. Jake had their alpha male qualities and a troubled secret past, but add in a military background and the take-charge attitude soared off the charts. There was a lot of Jake since the book has dual POV's which was a departure from Jodi's other books. As a diehard JEM fan, I loved having more of the male perspective when normally it was in an epilogue. Secondly, Camille was a different type of female heroine. She was rich, pampered socialite, but strong, determined and very headstrong. She wanted to prove her own worth to a world that saw her as the spoiled party girl. As one can imagine, she was not thrilled to get Jake as a 24/7 bodyguard when her father received threats against her well-being. Her relationship with their father was already a battle ground and having a dark, handsome man with a no-nonsense attitude hovering in all aspects of her life did not help. Her father was a cut throat, ruthless business man with enemies everywhere so Camille needed Jake's protection whether she thought she did or not. Now for a hotness factor. Holy mother of God when Jake and Camille finally hooked up, I needed a fan or a cold shower! It was H-O-T!!! Smoking!!! Steaming!!! Lord have mercy!!! You get the picture. The story was fast paced. It threw me a bit because at 5% in there was a lot of background that normally I would have expected Jodi to feed slowly to the reader. I had to remind myself this was a stand-alone book, not a trilogy so the story had to move along at a good clip. That doesn't mean everything was laid out at the beginning. Jodi had several secrets up her sleeve toward the end that were really good. One I never saw coming! No spoilers here so get the book! However, I struggled through parts of the book. Not because it was a bad story or poorly written. Not at all! Jodi's work is always fantastic! It just "sounded" different than her previous books. There were several moments where I thought an editor got ahold of it and set the tone because it just didn't sound like her writing. I expected more flowing, romantic dialogue. Toward the end of the book I saw some of that, but by then I was already used to the tone of the book. Overall I enjoyed reading The Protector. Jodi always weaves a good romance with some mystery, drama and a feel good ending. The book did not disappoint in any of these areas. I highly recommend snapping up this book when it is available in September!

Loved it!!. Jake and Camille are two souls who have been damaged by people from their past. A love story that is smoking hot with some suspense and beautifully written, I absolutely love Jodi’s attention to detail and the way she’s draws you into the story.

Can I marry Jake?. Jodi has done it again! The Protector is beyond amazing! I'm so jealous of Jodi's imagination with these men she creates. I think she just gave Jesse a little competition.

So good. I love Jodi's writing. Must say it was nice to have a stand alone book. But I would love to see where Jake and Cami go next. After I wrote this I started reading reviews on other sites. There will never be another JW so even though Jake is a great character, he is not Jesse. This is a stand alone so no way could you get as involved in the characters as in a trilogy. What I did miss is Jodi's sense of humor. Again, a lot happens in this book and neither character is funny. At all. Heather could have been had she had more time. But that is what I liked. This book is totally different from the other books. The twists were not what I thought. The ending a little sappy but so what? Jake was healing but had to heal pretty fast since it was 1 book. Not sure anyone could top Jesse. Not even Jodi.

Romance and Suspense. THE PROTECTOR is an exciting story filled with suspense, forbidden love, a tortured hero and a feisty heroine. Jack is a complex man. He is a dark and dangerous, alpha male tormented from the war and suffering from PTSD and having a difficult time coping with life. Jack takes a job as Camille Logan's bodyguard against his better judgement. He has no interest in spending time protecting a rich, spoiled brat, but he needs to get out of his head. So he agrees to take the job because he knows working is better than drinking too much and and hooking up with anonymous women. Camille is the youngest daughter of a businessman who has achieved his success by any means possible and he has few morals and many enemies. Jack has a preconceived opinion about Camille before he meets her and is surprised to find a completely different woman from what he anticipated. Jack admires Camille and is also attracted to her. Camille is opinionated and headstrong and not afraid to tell Jack what is on her mind. Jack has to keep reminding himself to concentrate on his job, not Camille but he finds it hard to resist her. I really enjoyed this fast paced, intriguing romance, it kept me on the edge of my seat as I tried to figure out who was trying to hurt Camille. I enjoyed the first half of the book the most. The first half kept me riveted, but I didn't think the second half of the book was as enthralling and it was a little too predicable. Jack and Camille are likeable characters and they have a lot of chemistry zinging between them. They both hide who they really are behind a protective shield. Jack falls for Camille as he struggles to figure out who is out to hurt her. He is constantly on guard as he tries to uncover secrets and understand why people want to keep him away from Camille. If you like protective, alpha males and spunky heroines along with romance and suspense, you will enjoy this one. I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books.

Loved this book!!!. In my opinion the beginning was a little slow. I had to make myself keep reading until about chapter 7 or 8, then I couldn't put it down. The phrase "all in all" was a little over used. It was a very sweet love story and the end totally took me for a loop!!! Did not see that coming at all! Good book!

Don’t waste your time. Terrible plot.. This is the worst book ever. They literally ‘fall in love’ after 72 hours of meeting each other for no apparent reason other than looks. the main character personalities suckkkkk. The guys calls her ‘angel’ so many times it’s embarrassing. Only reason I finished the book is because I paid 10.99 for it. If you like Jodi’s other series (This Man), and are hoping for something similar, this is nothing like it. Poorly written. Don’t waste your time.

Couldn’t put it down!. I could not put this book down! Jake and Cami were everything and more. I didn’t want it to end, but the ending was amazing.

Good but too brief. Overall theme of storyline a but redundant. I wish the story had additional books to follow like this man and one night series as I felt the author was rushing through the book and missed the character developments that was nourished in previous books. Although this is clearly the writing style of beloved JEM, I was a bit disappointed in comparison to her previous books.

Heart Warming. Finding love again and getting redeemed. The storyline between Camille and Jake was wonderful and the twists and turns of mystery and intrigue Jody took you on made this novel the much better. Couldn't put it down.

The Protector.. I loved this book. I think we are all just used to having her characters with us for a while instead of one book. It may be short but it is a gem. A feel good book. You can't help but fall in love with Jake and Camille. I just wish she could write fast enough to have a wonderful book from her once a month. Jodi you are my most favorite writer. So very talented.

Excellent As Always. Definitely Jodi Ellen Malpas is one of my favorite authors due to her plots and excellent writing skills. I have all her novels and each one has been 5 stars because there are no 6 or 10. This love story has all the elements necessary to make it one of a kind. It has sexy love scenes, detective's thrill and profound emotions between the main characters and the secondary characters. Once you get involved through the first pages, you cannot go back or stop reading. You need to know what follows. The ending is also fulfilling with a lot of love. A must read book!!!!

I love all of Jodi’s books!. I loved it, not as much as This Man or One Night, but maybe I need to give the book some time to sink in since i just finsihed. Jodi did an amazing job again, I would have prefered an epilogue but if she felt she didn’t need one I have to trust that.

Actual Rating: 4.5 Stars It is no secret that I am a lover of all things Jodi Ellen Malpas, so when I found out she was publishing a new standalone book, my grabby hands came out something fierce. To say that I have loved each and every one of this phenomenal author’s books is not doing her words the immense amount of justice they each deserve. All six of her previous books, have given me completely consuming reading experiences, wrought with thought out emotion and dynamic characters that steal my heart again and again. Her books represent some of my all-time favorites, and the characters and stories she’s given me over the years will stay with me forever in some way, shape, or form. I went into The Protector knowing that this book would be a tad different than her others because it was a standalone rather than a series, but I knew that Jodi Ellen Malpas would weave together something I would feel every ounce of, something I would love unconditionally, and something I wouldn’t soon forget. After reading and experiencing every word of this book, all I can say is that my predictions for this book were completely on point because what she gave me within the pages of this book is why I LOVE romances, why I LOVE her book so fiercely, and why and I can’t get enough of what she creates through her all-feeling writing. The Protector was a story that completely took ahold of me from the very first pages, and had me encapsulated in it all with Jake and Camille and their romantic, emotional, and suspenseful story. While I went into this book not necessarily knowing what to expect, I found myself once again completely taken within a memorable story with wonderfully distinctive characters that found themselves seared to my heart in no time flat. Woven together with Jodi Ellen Malpas’s outstanding and thoughtfully crafted writing, The Protector came to be a story I lived, loved, and felt every word of. This is a story of past and pain, and more hurt than you can shake a stick at, but how when you finally see that light and hope for the first time in your life, it can bring you it all, as long as you let yourself grab onto it. From beginning to end, The Protector had me within its pages experiencing everything it had to offer, and I truly can’t say enough how much I enjoyed it. There really is nothing like a book by Jodi Ellen Malpas. The talent of her words truly know no bounds, and every time I read one of her books, I become completely entranced by everything she gives me with her characters. She makes every word, every emotion and feeling, and every moment of her books beyond real, beyond consuming, and beyond authentic, and that sets her books in a league of their own. She is one of my all-time favorite author’s, and reading this book reinforced that notion again and again. The Protector was a story of romance, suspense, and heart, and what happens when two people from two very different walks of life, find themselves of the same path feeling a world of spark and connection towards each other. It follows them through every gripping and emotional up and down and twist and turn as they try to figure it all out, and as they see what the light might bring them and their hearts, if they only reach out and take it with all that they have. What I got with Jake and Camille through their heart melting and pounding story was everything and more, and I loved every moment I got with them as they gave it all a go. You will too. Trust me on that.

Bomb.com. I have read Jodi past books on Jesse. The Protector was a suggested read based on the books that I’ve read prior. I was a little skeptical purchasing the book, being apprehensive about it following the same story line as Jesse. I love this book!!! I loved everything about it. This book was so intense that I got chill bumps from their chemistry. I love the ending, but there definitely has to be more to come!!!!

Beautiful. I wasn't sure how this was going to go because Jodi normally writes trilogies. I thought it would be too short ... I was so wrong ... This book is incredibly written, and I loved every page!! Way to go Jodi another amazing book! You keep writing we'll keep reading ❤️

Expecting more. It was ok - I was expecting much more. Not sure if it was worth it.
