Falling by Jane Green Book Summary

The New York Times bestselling author of The Beach House, Jemima J, and Sister Stardust presents a novel about the pleasure and meaning of finding a home—and family—where you least expect them...

When Emma Montague left the strict confines of upper-crust British life for New York, she felt sure it would make her happy. Away from her parents and expectations, she felt liberated, throwing herself into Manhattan life replete with a high-paying job, a gorgeous apartment, and a string of successful boyfriends. But the cutthroat world of finance and relentless pursuit of more began to take its toll. This wasn’t the life she wanted either.

On the move again, Emma settles in the picturesque waterfront town of Westport, Connecticut, a world apart from both England and Manhattan. It is here that she begins to confront what it is she really wants from her life. With no job, and knowing only one person in town, she channels her passion for creating beautiful spaces into remaking the dilapidated cottage she rents from Dominic, a local handyman who lives next door with his six-year-old son.

Unlike any man Emma has ever known, Dominic is confident, grounded, and committed to being present for his son whose mother fled shortly after he was born. They become friends, and slowly much more, as Emma finds herself feeling at home in a way she never has before.

But just as they start to imagine a life together as a family, fate intervenes in the most shocking of ways. For the first time, Emma has to stay and fight for what she loves, for the truth she has discovered about herself, or risk losing it all.

In a novel of changing seasons, shifting lives, and selfless love, a story unfolds—of one woman’s far-reaching journey to discover who she is truly meant to be...

I ONLY GAVE THIS ONE STAR.... ....so I could warn the next unsuspecting reader that this is one lousy book. It has no redeeming qualities and if you read on expecting one, it ain't gonna happen, dear reader.....trust me on this one thing and if you don't believe me, it's your life you're wasting.

Good read. I love all of Jane Green books and enjoyed her newest novel. Her characters seem real and one tends to really like them. I was disappointed about the ending. Good beach read

I’m torn about this book. The first 1/3 was terrific the second was so so and the last part was full of surprises not all happy. First time reading this author I’m drawn to English authors, I’ll take a look at her other books since there is so much talent in her writing and this is one of her early books.

Superbly Written & Emotionally Charged. Falling is a beautifully written poignant love story. Can two people really fall and stay in love, if they are from two completely different worlds? Emma left England to take a fast-paced, high-paying job in America. After five years though of living and working in NYC, Emma was ready to slow down. She decided to move to Westport Connecticut. Although the cottage Emma rented was drastically outdated and needed renovating, she wasn’t worried. Emma loved interior decorating and couldn’t wait to get started beautifying her new home. Emma and her landlord, Dominic, were from completely different worlds and at first she wasn’t attracted to him. Sure, he was handsome and charming, but blue-collar workers were not her type. And Emma definitely didn’t need the complication of him being her landlord. Emma was used to being wined and dined by wealthy men, not bartenders, and carpenters. But, Dominic’s integrity and kindness won Emma over. She also fell in love with Jesse, his son. Struggles arose though when Emma’s upper-crust British parents met Dominic. And then again when Emma met Dominic’s loud and abusive parents. But, when Jesse’s mom showed up on the scene after deserting Jesse as an infant, Emma’s insecurities rose to a whole new level. Emma hated choosing between her parents, and the man whom they felt was beneath her. Her father liked Dominic but didn’t feel as if he would ever measure up to the family’s standards, and Emma’s mother treated Dominic as the help. Emma had some hard decisions to make, but in the end, she discovered what was truly important to her. Life was filled with hurts and hardships, and Emma learned that acceptance and choosing happiness every day were the best possible avenues that she could take. This a superbly written, emotionally charged love story. I loved it.

Falling in to. Jane Green has done it again. This has been the best book that she has written.

i love it. just wow. you wont be dissapointed

Just ok. I really enjoy Jane Green's work, I just couldn't get into this book. Usually I can't put her books down, this was not one of those books for me.

Dp. Just what you get! Romantic with usual insecurities with an unexpected twist!

amazing read. An amazing read. The characters are written well and the author does a stellar job in making you fall in love with them. It is an easy book to read and I would 10/10 recommend it.

Falling. I am a great fan of Jane Green’s work. And I am grateful to her for many happy, interesting and touching hours of reading … But Falling was a great disappointment, It’s difficult to write about why without giving too much away, but essentially, the author spent an inordinate amount of time wrestling with issues of class and common interests (a bit overdone) with her ‘romantic leads’, only to veer wildly off tangent at an odd point in the book. The reader is left unsettled, to say the least, and with little time left, any resolution feels incomplete and unsatisying. Ms. Green’s ineffable charm makes up for a lot, but I had the sense that perhaps this time she’d run out of ideas, or enough material to really round this book out. Still, its always a delight to see a new Jane Green book out there!

Falling. What a book!!! I started this book and couldn’t stop. I read the reviews on books but every time I still try them... and most of the time I love the book 🙂. I was not expecting this book to go the way it did . I can’t say more...but I can say it was an amazing read . I have the hardcover that I got at indigo/chapters . I took I chance on it because I loved the cover and it was on special. “I’m really I did” .

Don’t read this book. Do not read this book if you’re looking for a half decent romance. Super depressing. Angry that I wasted the $14.00 on this.
