The Kept Woman by Karin Slaughter Book Summary

WATCH WILL TRENT ON ABC!

“Part True Detective, part The Girl on the Train. All parts gripping.” --theSkimm

The New York Times bestselling author of Pieces of Her returns with an electrifying, emotionally complex thriller that plunges Will Trent into the darkest depths of a mystery that just might destroy him.

Husbands and wives. Mothers and daughters. The past and the future.

Secrets bind them. And secrets can destroy them.

With the discovery of a murder at an abandoned construction site, Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is brought in on a case that becomes much more dangerous when the dead man is identified as an ex-cop.

Studying the body, Sara Linton—the GBI’s newest medical examiner and Will’s lover—realizes that the extensive blood loss didn't belong to the corpse. Sure enough, bloody footprints leading away from the scene indicate there is another victim—a woman—who has vanished . . . and who will die soon if she isn’t found.

Will is already compromised, because the site belongs to the city’s most popular citizen: a wealthy, powerful, and politically connected athlete protected by the world’s most expensive lawyers—a man who’s already gotten away with rape, despite Will’s exhaustive efforts to put him away.

But the worst is yet to come. Evidence soon links Will’s troubled past to the case . . . and the consequences will tear through his life with the force of a tornado, wreaking havoc for Will and everyone around him, including his colleagues, family, friends—and even the suspects he pursues.

Relentlessly suspenseful and furiously paced, peopled with conflicted, fallible characters who leap from the page, The Kept Woman is a seamless blend of twisty police procedural and ingenious psychological thriller -- a searing, unforgettable novel of love, loss, and redemption.

Couldn't Put It Down. The Kept Woman is the eighth book in what (it appears to be) a very well-written crime/thriller/detective series. I may have to go back and see where it all began (not sure yet), but I'll definitely be watching for what's coming next. As we farther along in the series, there is some catching up to do with relationships and histories of the characters. The author does a pretty good job of keeping you just in the loop without going overboard for people who may have already read the first seven books. Will Trent has his cliche moments, but he manages to keep himself out of the category with some great personality which is showcased in his interactions with the other members of his team and the people in his life. This personality and history comes to be very important as he begins to investigate the latest murder. The pieces of this murder weave together in an amazingly intricate way, but manage to not get convoluted or overly complex to the reader (even one who is starting the series in the middle). I loved how all the pieces drifted from place to place until suddenly there was something that resembled a picture in front of you. But it didn't end there. The picture still needed to be developed and Will Trent didn't just jump to a solution. The best part of this was how each piece of the puzzle was finally discovered by several people. Without the team working together it would have never happened. Trent may be our leading character, but his team of supporting characters are excellent. A great read for someone looking for more than just another episode of CSI or Law and Order. This takes the whole crime thriller to another level and I loved it!

Kept Woman. This book was an interesting read.

Such a good book!. Such a good book. Could not put it down

Great read!. I loved this book!

Hope next story does not have Angie. Angie needs to go. She’s beginning to ruin the story line, it’s depressing.

Awful. Just awful.

Not So Much. Slaughter is a favorite of mine. The writing was wonderful and I do love Will Trent and Sara. The story, however, just wore me down and I wanted it to be over. There is not one single redeeming thing about Angie's character. I feel no empathy for her at all. Continue to include Will and Sara, but let this be the last of Angie. She did enough in this story to rot in jail.

Sleepless night. I spent two sleepless nights staying awake to read this book. Finished on day 3… All of her Will Trent series are EXCEPTIONAL! But this one had so many twists and turns that I could not put it down. Very highly suggest!

Could NOT put it down!!. I am a diehard Karin fan and am head over heals in love, or lust, with Will Trent. I envision him as Matthew Mcconaughey! This book did NOT disappoint!!!

Fantastic!!!. Wow!!! What a great book!!!

No likable characters. I couldn't make myself care for any of the characters in this novel. The victims were unsympathetic, the suspects were either stupid or silly, and the investigators were caricatures. They all deserved each other and their fates and I deserve my money and time back. I kept reading hoping to find at least one character in the cast of not too bright misfits that I could feel some empathy for (and because it was a cold rainy weekend), and I came up empty. I'll not read this author again.

Yuck. This was a book that was hard to keep reading. I skipped pages just to cut through the tedious descriptions. I would take Angry Angie over Sappy Sara any time. These characters are grating on my interest.

Grow up?. I’ve made it thus far in this series to The Kept Woman. While I concur with nearly everyone else who appreciates Slaughter’s tenuous combination of minute detail on the one hand and page-turning suspense on the other, there is one matter that continues to aggravate me. I get the fact that Will was damaged by his upbringing (although Slaughter’s habit of attributing *everything* to it is a little too slavishly Freudian for me — but that’s another review). What is bothersome is the fact that Will & Sara’s relationship slides further and further backwards, into adolescence, with every book. I fully expect him to be stealing and writing cute notices on her training bra within a couple of books. Neither of them grows relationally even as their relationship becomes more and more intensely sexual. The delta here is aggravating. It’s not how adults function no matter how much they were damaged in their early years. Character development demands development, and Will isn’t. Otherwise (!) a fine and very engaging series.

The Kept Woman. Let me start by saying that I love the Will Trent books. This book, though good, was not the normal quality of book written on these wonderful characters. Will went off the deep end more, way more, than ever before. He, at the end of the book, realized some things and acted on some things that he should have done long before. Sara was completely weak in her character. I’m hoping that Faith will be next up in a book with Will and Sara resolving some important issues in the background. Look forward to the Will Trent book!!!

Make it a mini series. Wonderful character development, twists that actually make sense, keeps you guessing the whole time. Can’t fault it.

The Kept Woman. I couldn't put it down. Lost of twists and turns.

Amazing read. Could not put it down!!

The kept women. Oh my, this book is gripping and too hard to put down. She is an exceptional author who uses the English language so well you find yourself gagging from her descriptive words. This was a stinky story that she wrote really well. Cannot wait for the next one!!

Kept woman. It’s a great read

Definite page turner. I couldn't wait to read more. There were so many twists & turns. I truly enjoyed it.

Convoluted and boring. I don't think even the author was interested in these characters or their mundane journeys up and down crime scene staircases. So many staircases. Could not force myself to finish.
