Escape Clause by John Sandford Book Summary

Whenever you hear the sky rumble, that usually means a storm. In Virgil Flowers’ case, make that two. The exceptional new thriller from the writer whose books are “pure reading pleasure” (Booklist).

The first storm comes from, of all places, the Minnesota zoo. Two large, and very rare, Amur tigers have vanished from their cage, and authorities are worried sick that they’ve been stolen for their body parts. Traditional Chinese medicine prizes those parts for home remedies, and people will do extreme things to get what they need. Some of them are a great deal more extreme than others—as Virgil is about to find out.

Then there’s the homefront. Virgil’s relationship with his girlfriend Frankie has been getting kind of serious, but when Frankie’s sister Sparkle moves in for the summer, the situation gets a lot more complicated. For one thing, her research into migrant workers is about to bring her up against some very violent people who emphatically do not want to be researched. For another…she thinks Virgil’s kind of cute.

“You mess around with Sparkle,” Frankie told Virgil, “you could get yourself stabbed.”
     “She carries a knife?”
     “No, but I do.”

Forget a storm—this one’s a tornado.

People are dumb. Loved this like I have loved almost all of John Sandford's books. I find it simultaneously hilarious and sad for the reviewers that gave this book low ratings because they killed an endangered animal. Hey folks, no they didn't, it's fiction. More importantly it's Sanford whose novels deal with catching deviants who rape, torture and kill. When folks say that they loved his others but hate this because it is unconscionable to fictitiously kill an animal but not to fictitiously kill a human being, that is sick.

Escape Clause. I love Virgil Flowers but I was a little disappointed with this book. It didn't seem to move as fast as John Sandford's other books. But don't get me wrong it was still worth the read.

I give up. I love John Sandford books but I give up on this one. I’ve tried and tried to get into it, but cannot. Very disappointed.

Escape Clause. After reading the first 4 chapters I flipped to the middle, read a few pages and then skipped to the last chapter to finish it off. Not a good read. I have read every Sandford book but this one is a poor read.

Escape Clause. I've read everything, I mean everything John SandFord has written. But I'm bailing on this one. Killing endangered species? Sorry John, not my groove. Too sad. You blew it bud. Here's your money back. Better luck next time.

Escape the Clause. Fast paced with lots of action, making it an enjoyable read. End of the " bad guy " a bit predictable, but well deserved.

Worth it.... I would have given this five stars, but for one annoying plot inconsistency. Without giving anything away, the video event made subsequent actions pointless... otherwise, another fine Virgil Flowers book...

Escape Clause. Sanford continues to bring it. Should be getting my reads from the library but think I owe this guy for the enjoyment he brings to my life!

Dragged. The sample was not good enough for me to pay for the book. It dragged, and the dialogue was thin.

A fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed this one as I have all of the other f'ng Flowers books. I've read all of the "Prey" and "Flowers" books and love to go back and read my favorites again and again and this one qualifies. Sanford always keeps you engaged. Bravo!

Tigers. I love all of John Sandford's books. This one was great. I can never stop until I finish the whole book.

Another Fantastic Book. Sandford has done it again!! Great read during this Election Season--much better than listening to HC!! Keep Virgil going!! BigBob

Number Nine. Virgil Flowers is back and ready to solve another case. Two rare, endangered tigers have been stolen from the Minnesota Zoo. Since the zoo is owned by the state, the BCA is called in to find the tigers before they are harmed or killed. Virgil isn't thrilled to be assigned this case since he thinks he'll be known as the guy who rescues animals. When Frankie is injured because of her sister's investigation of a local farm that is trafficking people, Virgil splits his time between looking for the tigers and helping Catrin find who assaulted Frankie. I was more interested in the case involving Frankie than I was the case of rescuing the tigers. As usual, Flowers is hilarious. I love Shrake and Jenkins. This was a quick read with some suspense and some gunfire. Can't wait for the next one! *This is a voluntary review of an Advance Reader Copy.*

Not Typical Sanders. I love Virgil Flowers and Lucas Davenport. Two great characters created by the author. This book, however, left a taste behind like a spoiled peanut. Bitter! The storyline was so-so and I was totally turned off by the endangered species and how they were used in this book. Just. Not. Right.

Disappointed. Waited a long time to get from my library. Not the best. Sanford writes very interesting dialog. Could it be possible there isn't enough of that in this latest.

LITERAL ADDICTION’s Review of Escape Clause. Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Scholastic Siren - Sara: *Actual rating 4.5 skulls Book 9 in the Virgil Flowers series can be read as a stand-alone, the mystery is inclusive, but I think you would miss getting to know all the characters. Virgil works for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) which is basically the state version of the FBI. They deal with some very strange cases, none stranger than this. Virgil gets a call in the middle of the night about a kidnapping, the victims, two rare tigers missing from the zoo. Personally, Virgil’s life is a little wonky, too, Frankie’s sister moves in with her for the summer causing all manner of upset. As always, the story is cohesive and the mystery wraps up in one book, rather violently. This series is not for the faint of heart. If you are an animal lover, like I am, this book has a serious rough spot rather early on, once you get past it, it is worth continuing.

Virgil Flowers books. Loved everyone of these Virgil Flowers sagas. He is my hero and nobody writes a nail biter like John Sanford.

Starts slow.... This story starts out very slow, but really picked up! I enjoyed the storyline and recommend the book!

Great book!. Sandford never disappoints. And what's not to like about Flowers?

Escape Route. Typical Sandford...Great

High tension & belly laughs!. Everyone of these Virgil Flowers books is a page turner - and all will surprise you and make you laugh until tears run down your face! Brilliant in every way!

Slow. Did not finish. Slow book.

Not my style. Killing an endangered species---what up with that. Is you new best friend a Dentist?

The magic continues!. John Sandford has another great book. His books have been terrific ever since 'Rules of Prey'. I can't wait to read the next one.

Enough of Sandford's Politics. Probably read about two dozen of the "Prey" and Flowers novels. This is the last. I'm finished with the liberal flavor of his writing. The liberties he takes with the Catholic faith in this book are the last straw.

DLP. Good read although as an animal lover I hated the early part. All in all it was a good book.

Tension Packed. Excellent read start to finish. Please, please Mr. Sandford don't make us wait another year. I'm ready now. Thanks for writing such great books with amazing characters.

Double entendre in the title!. One of Sanford’s best works- particularly if you are a fan of Virgil. Must read, and very satisfying. Thanks to the team who brought this story to us readers!

KILLING AND TORTURING ENDANGERED SPECIES?!!. I have always enjoyed Sanford's books. Pre-ordered this. Last one for me. Is John Sanford this desperate to make money that his plot is to kill endangered species?? Give me a break--serious break. Disgusting
