Once a Wife by Patricia Keelyn Book Summary

At seventeen, Sarah Colby had been scared and desperate

Her marriage to Reece Colby was faltering. They were nearly destitute and their infant son, Drew, needed on-going medical care they couldn’t afford. Sarah felt her world crumpling around her. Then her mother-in-law, Elizabeth, offered Sarah a solution. Elizabeth would make certain Drew got the medical attention he needed if Sarah would walk away from her husband and son.  Believing she had no other option, Sarah accepted Elizabeth’s offer—though leaving them was the hardest thing she’d ever done.

Now, twelve years later, Sarah's still questions that decision. So when she learns that Drew's in trouble, she knows it's time to break her agreement with Elizabeth. Drew needs the mother he’s never known and Sarah needs to help her son. But how can she face Reece after deserting him? And what will happen when he finds out about Lyssa, the daughter he doesn't know he has?

Loved it❤️. Great story.

Once a Wife. I love this book. It has heart! Sweet, romantic & the theme to story is heart rendering. Loved the characters.

Once A Wife.. “I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for my honest review.” I really enjoyed this book. It brought a lot home for me growing up without my father but also introducing other elements into that scenario. It was heart warming and heart breaking all at the same time. I can't wait to read another one of her books

Wrong decision, right reasons. A second chance love story that’s a long time coming. Sarah left her husband, Reece, and sick infant son thinking she was giving them a chance at a better life, which they received. Twelve years later, she comes back because her son, Drew, needs her. The ensuing reveal makes for a very good second chance love story when we throw in the lies, betrayal and guilt, oh and the previously unknown daughter that’s heaped on top of everything. I liked how Ms Keelyn realistically portrayed the anger Reece felt. And how Sarah didn’t feel like she had any other choice at 18 years old, with wealthy in-laws pulling the strings. I also liked how Sarah and Reece were slowly allowed to grow and come back to each other, based on the underlying love that was still beneath everything else they were feeling. The children were well-written, and nearly stole the show. I also loved Sarah’s grandmother. I received a complimentary copy of this book from eBook Discovery. This is my freely given, honest review.

Amazing Read. I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for my honest review. What an amazing emotional read!! So hard to put down makes you feel like your really there.

Not good. This book is so predictably boring and the story has been told 1000 times before. There is nothing original about the characters or the plot. I tried to understand why she wanted to create so much unnecessary drama and tension but I can't wrap my head around it. Just terrible and typical.

Story about love and redemption. Really enjoyed the story.

Once a Wife. Very good book with interesting characters. I really enjoyed reading it and recommend it.

Once a wife. I didn't like this book. She felt leaving was the best thing but she left pregnant. Her grandmother helped her so why didn't she think the grandmother wouldn't help with the 1st? When she left she didn't know what she would face with baby #2 but she wanted to keep it. Then when the ex finds out about the daughter, she stands there while he tells the daughter he wants her to come and live with him and can see the mom for holidays and summer. She was willing to give up another child without a fight??? I didn't like the main characters at all!

Once a wife. Good book about a mothers love and how to forgive mistakes!

Heartwarming Novel about Second Chances. Once a Wife by Patricia Keelyn is the second book in the "A Mother's Heart" series. it is about a couple that has been given a second chance to repair their broken family. Twelve years earlier, Sarah, believing she is doing what is best for her sick child, walks out on her husband Reece and young son Drew. She has always regretted her decision to leave but now she feels she must return to help save her son from his destructive ways. Will returning cause Sarah to lose all that she holds dear to her.... A child that her ex husband knows nothing about? The story that follows is filled with such powerful emotions. Can the love and bond between a mother and her child ever really be broken? And can true love forgive all the lies and deception? You will have to read this well written novel about second chances to find out. I hadn't read the first book in this series, "Keeping Katie", before reading this one, however not only will I be going back to read that one but I will also be reading "Where the Heart is" the third book in this heartwarming series. I received this book from EBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review.

Quite boring. The story had little suspense to it, and the characters weren't well developed. I didn't feel like I could relate to any of them. They all seemed to have no emotion, and their personal thoughts were either not revealed or terribly written. The one cool thing was it was placed in Wyoming! Represent!!! The only issue was that most that was about wyoming was inaccurate or stereotypical. The story had an ok build up, but it was predictable, and the resolution was dragged out a little too much. I wouldn't recommend for others. I was able to reach the end, but it was pretty boring.

Once a wife. A wonderful, romantic story. The characters had great chemistry. It kept me reading all day and all evening to get to the happy ending!

Once a wife. Good getting family back together story.

Fabulous. Great reading, truths and consequences of young love.

Once a Wife. A tale for the ages telling how peoples perception grows over the years and can lead to mature happiness

A quasi read. Although the book kept me engaged and I did read it in one sitting, the ending was really anti-climatic for me, especially the transition between the final chapter and the epilogue. I would of really preferred a bit more of an exploration of the opinions and issues relating to Elizabeth, as well as bit more discussion on the theme of whiteness, particularly as it is a part of the plot. I will also note that the emotional scenes are well written and for the most part, I did enjoy reading this. I just don't think I would read it again.

"Once a wife". Beautiful and heartbreaking

I’m hooked. This is the first book I have read from Patricia and I can’t wait to read another. Her ability to intertwine a compelling storyline with convincing and revealing characters makes for a fulfilling experience. The romance amidst controversy is complicated and yet touching with just the right dose of sizzle! I can’t read just one!

Emotional rollercoaster. What an emotional story! I really enjoyed the realism of all the pieces of the plot- ranging from young love and financial/health stressors to meddling family and layers of secrets. I needed tissues to make it through to the very satisfying HEA ending. Real people with real life challenges made this a great read for me. I received a free copy of this book from eBook Discovery and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
