Mississippi Blood by Greg Iles Book Summary

Don’t miss the latest Natchez Burning novel, SOUTHERN MAN The #1 New York Times Bestseller GoodReads Choice Award semi finalist, Amazon Best Mysteries & Thrillers of 2017 selection The final installment in the epic Natchez Burning trilogy by Greg Iles “Natchez Burning is extraordinarily entertaining and fiendishly suspenseful. I defy you to start it and find a way to put it down; as long as it is, I wished it were longer. . . . This is an amazing work of popular fiction.”    — Stephen King “One of the longest, most successful sustained works of popular fiction in recent memory… Prepare to be surprised. Iles has always been an exceptional storyteller, and he has invested these volumes with an energy and sense of personal urgency that rarely, if ever, falter.” —   Washington Post The endgame is at hand for Penn Cage, his family, and the enemies bent on destroying them in this revelatory volume in the epic trilogy set in modern-day Natchez, Mississippi—Greg Iles’s epic tale of love and honor, hatred and revenge that explores how the sins of the past continue to haunt the present. Shattered by grief and dreaming of vengeance, Penn Cage sees his family and his world collapsing around him. The woman he loves is gone, his principles have been irrevocably compromised, and his father, once a paragon of the community that Penn leads as mayor, is about to be tried for the murder of a former lover. Most terrifying of all, Dr. Cage seems bent on self-destruction. Despite Penn's experience as a prosecutor in major murder trials, his father has frozen him out of the trial preparations--preferring to risk dying in prison to revealing the truth of the crime to his son. During forty years practicing medicine, Tom Cage made himself the most respected and beloved physician in Natchez, Mississippi. But this revered Southern figure has secrets known only to himself and a handful of others. Among them, Tom has a second son, the product of an 1960s affair with his devoted African American nurse, Viola Turner. It is Viola who has been murdered, and her bitter son--Penn's half-brother--who sets in motion the murder case against his father. The resulting investigation exhumes dangerous ghosts from Mississippi's violent past. In some way that Penn cannot fathom, Viola Turner was a nexus point between his father and the Double Eagles, a savage splinter cell of the KKK. More troubling still, the long-buried secrets shared by Dr. Cage and the former Klansmen may hold the key to the most devastating assassinations of the 1960s. The surviving Double Eagles will stop at nothing to keep their past crimes buried, and with the help of some of the most influential men in the state, they seek to ensure that Dr. Cage either takes the fall for them, or takes his secrets to an early grave.  Unable to trust anyone around him--not even his own mother--Penn joins forces with Serenity Butler, a famous young black author who has come to Natchez to write about his father's case. Together, Penn and Serenity battle to crack the Double Eagles and discover the secret history of the Cage family and the South itself, a desperate move that risks the only thing they have left to gamble: their lives. Mississippi Blood is the enthralling conclusion to a breathtaking trilogy seven years in the making--one that has kept readers on the edge of their seats. With piercing insight, narrative prowess, and a masterful ability to blend history and imagination, Greg Iles illuminates the brutal history of the American South in a highly atmospheric and suspenseful novel that delivers the shocking resolution his fans have eagerly awaited.

Great Story. A great finish to the trilogy. No one writes suspense better than Iles. I have enjoyed all of the trilogy books. Didn't want this one to to end.

Closure. He has brought it all home to our doorsteps, and laid all of our weaknesses and strengths out for us to acknowledge and maybe begin to own. Thank you.

The Natchez trilogy incredible!. Wow I read these books and couldn’t put them down. Greg Iles evokes so many emotions. What beautifully written books. The understanding of human nature at its best and cruelest is so well written. Thank-you so much for these books. I am now a devoted fan

Mississippi Blood. I just finished the last of your trilogy,Mississippi Blood. I have read all three on iBooks. I truly wish I had bought the hard cover books because with the closing of Sears & Roebuck, we are faced with a shortage of paper for our outhouse! Wishing you the best James Roy Appleton,Jr. MD #64 Winfield PLACE JACKSON,TN 38305

Do you like history of the south. I enjoyed everything about the story. Only problem are the marathon conversations. Tried speed reading, then went back and reread for fear I would miss something important. Still rated a 5 star because Isles is at the top of his game. Can't wait to read more.

Mississippi Blood. Excellent conclusion to trilogy. The writing was crisp, characters, and they're were many, good, brutality sometimes excessive and unbelievable circumstances led to good fiction but not close to reality.

Great until the very END.... And that's saying something because I've read so many books that started good, but fizzled out by the end (if not before). In the first several books in this series, Iles pulled us into the world of Penn Cage and then led us through in "Mississippi Blood" to the satisfying end. I loved it!!

Mississippi Blood. This book kept me engaged! The characters are addictive, and I hated to get to the final pages. The people are real: attempting to be noble but humanly flawed. The history is compelling and raw. I just want to sit with Iles and nurse a drink while I listen to his stories; preferably, at a bar with a view of the Mississippi River in Natchez.

Mississippi Blood. Wonderful finish to an outstanding series!

Awesome!. Could not put the book down!

Mississippi Blood. The last book of this trilogy was good, but at least 300 pages waaay to long. I actually skimmed the last several hundred pages.

Great Read. One of the best I’ve read for Greg Iles.. I could not put the book down.

Mississippi Blood. Great Book!

Missippi Blood. This is the second book I’ve read by Iles. Both have been excellent. I like this one too, very much. Yet, thought it was a little too long. But read it.

Great Trilogy. I have found a new writer. He is superb. I highly recommend this. DT

Mississippi Blood. Once again the author has exceeded my expectations with this beautifully written story. Filled with poignant love and gritty details, he draws the reader in. Plan to drop out of every day activity until you finish the last satisfying page.

Mississippi Blood. As a fan of happy endings, I was very disappointed in this book's final chapters. I kept waiting for a "big reveal" at the trial, but it never materialized, which was a huge let down. The book was too long and drawn out with a blase finish. And the protaganist just HAD to jump in bed with the first female that came into town? Seriously? Compared to the first two books in the trilogy, this was the worst. I think Iles dropped the ball on this one.

Best in Trilogy. Great ending... or NOT? Many pieces of life left hanging, maybe Mr. Isles has one more trilogy to write?

Book of the year. Not even a close second. Character development, plot, pacing, extraordinary language command. An instant classic.

Great final chapter to gripping trilogy. First time I have ever posted a review. Absolute page turner, I couldn't put it down and read it in a single day. If you were a fan of the first two you wont be disappointed.

Mississippi Blood. Outstanding! Sorry it had to end. What a great trilogy he wrote. Can't wait for his next endeavor!!

Excellent!. One of the best books I've read in a long time. The courtroom sequences are spell-binding, suspenseful, and engrossing. Please read the first two books of the trilogy first.

Mississippi Blood. Greg Iles continues to astound me. He is by far, my all time favorite author. He pieces together the highlights of all his previous writings so seamlessly. Perfectly Profound!

Morrell. This is a great book. Is snake Knox dead though

A rather disappointing end to the trilogy. Hate to say so but it’s true.
