Golden Prey Book Summary

Lucas Davenport’s first case as a U.S. Marshal sends him into uncharted territory in the thrilling new novel in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series.

The man was smart and he didn’t mind killing people. Welcome to the big leagues, Davenport.

Thanks to some very influential people whose lives he saved, Lucas is no longer working for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, but for the U.S. Marshals Service, and with unusual scope. He gets to pick his own cases, whatever they are, wherever they lead him.

And where they’ve led him this time is into real trouble. A Biloxi, Mississippi, drug-cartel counting house gets robbed, and suitcases full of cash disappear, leaving behind five bodies, including that of a six-year-old girl. Davenport takes the case, which quickly spirals out of control, as cartel assassins, including a torturer known as the “Queen of home-improvement tools” compete with Davenport to find the Dixie Hicks shooters who knocked over the counting house. Things get ugly real fast, and neither the cartel killers nor the holdup men give a damn about whose lives Davenport might have saved; to them, he’s just another large target.

Filled with his trademark razor-sharp plotting and some of the best characters in suspense fiction, Golden Prey is further reason why “Sandford has always been at the top of any list of great mystery writers” (The Huffington Post).

Golden Prey - John Sandford Reviews

Boring, unimaginative book. Undeveloped characters that you don't care about. Really no twists or suspense at all. Just a long chase scene.

It’s extremely rare to be good and prolific, but Sandford is. “Golden Prey”, in spite of the odds, is even better than his last Prey book, which was great. This is the best so far. Can’t wait for the next one.
  • Keeps getting better

I get so excited when I see another John Sanford "Prey" book on the Bestseller list. Once again he did not disappoint. I read this latest one in 2 days. Faced paced, slightly gruesome and laced with humor. Perfect if you are a Lucas Davenport fan. Cannot wait till the next one!
  • Sanford Never Disappoints

Once again, John Sanford, has written a story that is different from most of the genre. Most authors don't age their main characters and the stories are more of the same.Lucas Davenport ages and changes employment. Each book is a new and different story that makes a reader want to devour the entire book all at one time. In this story, Lucas spends his time in southern states as a US Marshal, instead of Minnesota and Iowa. The story is fast paced, action packed and leaves the reader wondering what's next. When the book ends, it leaves you waiting for the next.
  • Not Sandford!

There's no way Sandford wrote this. I've read every Prey book and this is not the same author. Terrible writing.
  • Babysitting for his wife? Seriously?

I know John Sanford writes about tough guys and had all this tough guy gratuitous sex, but please, could he just at least drop the I'm-a-rich-tough-guy facade and start getting serious about sexism. I've bought all of his books, but suspending my disbelief that any writer in this day and age could make a character so clueless is getting damned tiresome.

One of the best crime creators in the book world. Putting this character on the screen would be a joyous occurance and would draw many more fans , if there can be.

  • Love This New Journey!!!

Without exception, every book in this series has had me riveted. Sandford is one of only two or three authors whose books are so good that I've paid for every e-book in the entire series, again, after reading them in paperback when they were originally released. If this is your first Sandford novel, I'm jealous, because it's better than discovering a really good TV series and having eight seasons ahead of you. It doesn't matter if it's a book about Lucas Davenport, or if it's one of the novels about Virgil Flowers. John Sandford has, and continues to, surprise and delight his readers without ever missing a beat. Without question, he's one of the best writers in this genre. The depth of detail, and the pacing of his stories, make other popular, so-called "novelists" (James Patterson comes to mind) seem like first-round losers on an episode of Cake Boss. If you are a discerning reader, you will devour this latest offering.
