The Forever Summer by Jamie Brenner Book Summary

When a DNA test reveals long-buried secrets, three generations of women reunite on Cape Cod for the homecoming of a lifetime.

Marin Bishop has always played by the rules, and it's paid off: at twenty-eight she has a handsome fiancée, a prestigious Manhattan legal career, and the hard-won admiration of her father. But one moment of weakness leaves Marin unemployed and alone, all in a single day. Then a woman claiming to be Marin's half-sister shows up, and it's all Marin can do not to break down completely. Seeking escape, Marin agrees to a road trip to meet the grandmother she never knew she had. As the summer unfolds at her grandmother's quaint beachside B&B, it becomes clear that the truth of her half-sister is just the beginning of revelations that will change Marin's life forever. The Forever Summer is a delicious page-turner and a provocative exploration of what happens when our notions of love, truth, and family are put to the ultimate test.

Full of delicious descriptions of coastal New England and richly imagined characters, The Forever Summer is an emotional, hot-topic page-turner and a summer must-read

Not strong women.... The book was ok but I was expecting the characters to be different because of the “strong women” quote on the front. These characters were whiny women trying to escape responsibility and blaming everyone else for their problems. I wasn’t familiar with the author and I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn’t expecting a little substance. It’s a typical beach read.

Heartfelt Book about a family coming together with universal themes. Marin Bishop’s life is in shambles. She is thirty years old and has just broken off her engagement because she is cheating on her fiance with a co-worker. Cheating must be hereditary in the Bishop family because her parent’s marriage is also dissolving due to her father's indiscretions. Complicating matters is an email from a twenty-two year old woman named Rachel, who claims to be her half sister. This revelation came after Marin innocently supplied DNA through a testing kit at work. Rachel always wanted to know the history of her father’s family since her mother’s pregnancy was a result of a sperm donation. The DNA testing provided her with enough information about her father to find her paternal grandmother. She is excited about her discoveries and invites Marin to join her when she meets her new grandmother. Marin must decide if Rachel is a hoax because the truth implies that her family is full of devastating secrets. This book is about a family coming together for a summer under unique circumstances. The author does a wonderful job weaving some of the universal themes such as love, regret, and happiness. I enjoyed this heartfelt book by Jamie Brenner.

Loved this book!!!. I loved this book so much that I finished it in one day. I instantly connected with the characters. This was the first book I've read by this author and I look forward to reading other novels by her. This was a great summer read and I would definitely recommend it!

Another winner by Brenner. I have always loved Jamie’s books. They are the perfect mix of fun and tug at your heartstrings. This one would be a perfect beach read (swoon at that cover!).

Great Subject Matter - Trite and Awkward Writing. I wanted to love this book; who doesn’t love a good summer read about the beach, strong women and secrets? But I was sadly disappointed by shallow characters despite great back stories, the writing felt very juvenile and I never felt I really knew any of them except maybe Blythe. The “strong women” are whiney, self centered and immature, even grandmother who is the wizened matriarch - and anything but strong. Situations were not believable - Blythe sneaking out to meet hottie nursery guy for dinner and no one wonders where she is? Rachel should be getting to know her new family and yet she’s more interested in panting after the cliche hot guy who “can’t be with her but can’t stop himself” ugh, the worst kind of unbelievable romance shoved into a story do everyone gets a happy ending. I realize “beach fiction” will never win any literary awards but the writing of what could have been a great novel was especially terrible. I will not be reading any more of Brenner’s work no matter how compelling the synopsis might be. Predictability is not the worst thing if the writing is done well. In this case I just spent a lot of time groaning and hoping it would end quickly.

Loved it!. I was immediately drawn into this book and couldn't put it down. Such a great cast of characters that were very likable and very real, each had their own story to tell, and the setting in Provincetown, MA had me yearning to be right there in that beach town running a bed and breakfast like the Beach Rose Inn. This book had a lot of heart, some surprises that I didn't see coming, but most of all I think it showed the importance of family, honesty and trust. This is definitely a great read and I highly recommend it! I received an advance review copy of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Absolutely loved it. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to experience Jamie Brenner for the very first time. I have never wanted to visit a summer home more than I do right now, especially in a place like Provincetown. Brenner makes it sound perfectly eclectic among the lives of Marin, her newfound sister Rachel, and all of the other family included in this scrumptious piece of summer fiction. Need a beach read? Pick this one up now.

Perfect summer read!. Wow, what a gem of a story! The Forever Summer by Jamie Brenner, my first by her. I am ready to pick up and leave for vacation in P-town. I want to soak up the eclectic, free spirit vibe there. This is a wonderful story of family, friends, and community and they are often pieces that fit together in ways that will surprise you. Grab your beach chair and settle in for the perfect beach read. There are secrets, hidden letters, and a journal, old love and new love and family drama. At the heart of it all is the charming Beach Rose Inn. Get ready to check in, your room is ready.

THE Best Book Of Summer. Move over Elin Hildebrand and Jane Green as Jamie Brenner is in the house! I enjoyed The Gin Lovers and loved The Wedding Sisters but with The Forever Summer, Brenner goes to the level of the elite summer fiction authors. The book features elements that I love: a. Immediate plot- by page 2, you are completely "into" the plot. I love that in a book! b. Plot Twists- the book has several "A-ha" moments where the reader stops and says- Wow, I didn't see that coming. Clearly Brenner is pretty darn brilliant to come up with a plot that is cohesive but surprising at the same time. c. Characters and lots of them- More and more key characters are introduced as the book progresses. In each case, the character development and interactions are natural and all "feel" right. Overall, I loved this book and I anticipate that Brenner will join the ranks of the Summer Greats- Jane Green, Elin Hildebrand, Nancy Thayer, Emily Giffin and Jennifer Weiner. I received an advanced review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The Forever Summer. This book is such a perfect beach read! Love the characters and the setting. Get ready for a lot of family drama.

LOVED IT!!. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading her other books. I read this while on a cruise and couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend it.

Best of Summer. I absolutely loved everything about "The Forever Summer" by Jamie Brenner! Kudos to Jamie for such a heartwarming and emotional read. The genre of this novel is Women's Fiction. The descriptions of the scenic beach were wonderful. One could certainly identify with the characters collecting seashells, and walking barefoot in the sand, or walking on the rocks by the water. The Beach Side Inn has such a cozy feel, with a close community of people. The characters were flawed, complex, complicated with contrasts, similarities and differences. Most of the characters were likeable, and at times some were not likeable. I related to the characters, and their emotions. Many of the topics in this novel are relevant today. What if by chance, you took a DNA test for the fun of it, and discovered the results were not what you thought.? What if it traced different familial lineage? What if you discovered secrets buried in your family that seemed like a betrayal? Imagine that you discovered new family members. In "The Forever Summer", the author writes about family, betrayal, forgiveness, secrets, trust, loyalty, love and hope. This was such an endearing and emotional story and I would highly recommend it! I received an advanced copy for my honest review.
