The Fix Book Summary

THE NEW MEMORY MAN NOVEL!

Amos Decker witnesses a murder just outside FBI headquarters. A man shoots a woman execution-style on a crowded sidewalk, then turns the gun on himself.

Even with Decker's extraordinary powers of observation and deduction, the killing is baffling. Decker and his team can find absolutely no connection between the shooter--a family man with a successful consulting business--and his victim, a schoolteacher. Nor is there a hint of any possible motive for the attack.

Enter Harper Brown. An agent of the Defense Intelligence Agency, she orders Decker to back off the case. The murder is part of an open DIA investigation, one so classified that Decker and his team aren't cleared for it.

But they learn that the DIA believes solving the murder is now a matter of urgent national security. Critical information may have been leaked to a hostile government--or worse, an international terrorist group--and an attack may be imminent.

Decker's never been one to follow the rules, especially with the stakes so high. Forced into an uneasy alliance with Agent Brown, Decker remains laser focused on only one goal: solving the case before it's too late.

Had great hopes for the Alex Decker series after reading the promising Memory Man. Last Mile was a lesser book, and The Fix lands further downhill. The plot initially is intriguing, but eventually spirals into contorted silliness; many of the characters are about an inch deep with dialogue to match; and there are multiple space-filling tangents that just sort of fizzle out without without adding anything but additional pages. I fear that Baldacci has gone the way of the latter-day Clancy; as the publisher knows that Baldacci, like Clancy, will sell no matter what, the editors barely touch manuscripts that badly need tightening, dialogue improvement, removal of repetition, etc.

The Amos Decker series is quickly becoming my favorite books! This story is so convoluted that when you finally get to find out the answers to all the questions, you're left speechless!! Great book and I am honestly looking forward to the next. Thank you, David Baldacci!

Not the best effort from this author, but worth three stars. The plot is plausible but far fetched. The dialogue is clumsy in places and slow moving. The main character is nice but flawed and everyone knows it but constantly bring it up anyway. Enough is enough David.

Loved this book. Compelling. Read it in 3 days. Enough mystery to keep me reading. Couldn't figure it out till near the end. One of Baldacci's best. Great story plot and development of new characters. Ya gotta love Amos Decker. Smart, clever and more sensitive than he realizes. You just know he's got your back. A real friend.

As usual, the author is superb in keeping the reader engrossed in his book. The end results are: why is the book coming to an ending so fast, and when will his next book be published. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a book, who can't put it down until the last page. Bravo Zulu for this book Mr. B.
