Lion Book Summary

First it was a media sensation. Then it became the #1 international bestseller A Long Way Home. Now it’s Lion, a major motion picture starring Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, and Rooney Mara.

This is the miraculous and triumphant story of Saroo Brierley, a young man who used Google Earth to rediscover his childhood life and home in an incredible journey from India to Australia and back again...

At only five years old, Saroo Brierley got lost on a train in India. Unable to read or write or recall the name of his hometown or even his own last name, he survived alone for weeks on the rough streets of Calcutta before ultimately being transferred to an agency and adopted by a couple in Australia.

Despite his gratitude, Brierley always wondered about his origins. Eventually, with the advent of Google Earth, he had the opportunity to look for the needle in a haystack he once called home, and pore over satellite images for landmarks he might recognize or mathematical equations that might further narrow down the labyrinthine map of India. One day, after years of searching, he miraculously found what he was looking for and set off to find his family.

Lion
is a moving, poignant, and inspirational true story of survival and triumph against incredible odds. It celebrates the importance of never letting go of what drives the human spirit: hope.

It's a very inspiring story of hope and perseverance. It gives insight into the plight of thousands of homeless and abandoned children. It was a real eye opener to me. Would highly recommend.

Saroo writes as he would speak relating the dangers and horrors he experienced as a poor lost child in India. What an eye opener! The power of the human spirit shines throughout his narrative. A wonderful book! I couldn't put it down!

This true story can be compared to no other. How Saroo as a five- to six-year-old child survives on the streets of Calcutta for weeks is miraculous, no doubt. To be taken to an orphanage and soon adopted out to an Australian couple, given an opportunity for a much different life, is unbelievable! (I did mention that it's true, right?) I read this thoroughly engaging book in just a couple days. Written with sensitivity and authenticity, Saroo Brierley shares his life story with a fascinated audience. I pray he and both his families continue to grow in love and closeness. And I praise Saroo for the help he is giving to children who are born into poverty and abandonment, needing similar rescuing as he received as a lost child.

I love the fact that he always made it about the suffering of children in India. Especially the problem hunger. Book courage me to reach out to children. I love the fact that he did not make this about religion or politics.

An amazing story of the will to survive against all odds; the enactment of the endless hope we all should carry with us daily. I admire Saroo's reverence for his new found life and how he intertwines his passion for the roots from which he came and the circumstances born from them.

Lion is Hands-down one of the best movies and you all know it said do the right thing Academy!!!! Forget the politics this movie deserves to win come on academy wake up let's do the right thing for once it's the most beautiful movie of the year!!!!! If you don't believe me go look at the movie again and again and again!!!! Also Nicole Kidman was brilliant and how often do we say that plus the photography oh my goodness how often do you get something out of a movie like this!!!! Look I can say no more there's a lot of competition however this film deserves the awards let's do the right thing! Not to mention how wonderful it must be to able to still capture such and make such a beautiful movie with all that's been going on in the country and at Weinstein Co with loss but yet they still put up with a lot this year and the CEO has still hung in there with Weinstein and and somehow they pull together; Glasser once again shows nothing but brilliance in his hard-working 24 hour days with Harvey between LA and New York and yet remains humble .The Weinstein Company Co?????
