This series is a trash fire. I liked the premise of this book and kept waiting for it to get better, but it’s utter garbage. I read the first two books and started the third before I decided to give up. The plot is driven by the main characters making stupid decisions that don’t make sense. Don’t waste your money.

Great, with disclaimers.. So, I feel like this series checks all the boxes you need for a really cool series. And if you are in your reading mood for fun warriors, and Magic’s, and inter-state tensions etc...it has it all. But there still is something popcorn-blockbuster about it. Like when I go to watch a summer movie: my expectations are fine if it’s a little wonky as long as everything blows up in the emotional order I need. When I’m seeing something in winter, I can’t explain why: but my expectations are different. If you go into this book with summer popcorn expectations: you will freaking love it. It’s a great ride, and has some awesome power arcs. But this isn’t the next epic fantasy pantheon, and of you go in a serious eye and a need to be blown away by a masterpiece: yer gonna have issues. I still give it 4-stars, it gave me what I wanted. And I have reread my favorite parts a bunch of times, it’s top shelf entertainment.
