WINNER OF THE ANTHONY/BILL CRIDER AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL IN A SERIES

Private investigator Kinsey Millhone confronts her darkest and most disturbing case in this #1 New York Times bestseller from Sue Grafton.

In 1979, four teenage boys from an elite private school sexually assault a fourteen-year-old classmate—and film the attack. Not long after, the tape goes missing and the suspected thief, a fellow classmate, is murdered. In the investigation that follows, one boy turns state’s evidence and two of his peers are convicted. But the ringleader escapes without a trace.

Now, it’s 1989 and one of the perpetrators, Fritz McCabe, has been released from prison. Moody, unrepentant, and angry, he is a virtual prisoner of his ever-watchful parents—until a copy of the missing tape arrives with a ransom demand. That’s when the McCabes call Kinsey Millhone for help. As she is drawn into their family drama, she keeps a watchful eye on Fritz. But he’s not the only one being haunted by the past. A vicious sociopath with a grudge against Millhone may be leaving traces of himself for her to find...

Y is for yesterday. I read this after learning of Grafton’s death. Objectively, it was not, in my opinion, one of her best. But I was so sad about the end of the series that I devoured every word like it was a last meal. We will never have closure. We will never know any more about the cast of characters Grafton created.

Y. A great and exciting read as always. I shall miss this wonderful author May she rest in peace

The series ended many books ago. This is sad. I was really looking forward to this book. I literally skipped hundreds of pages and it still made sense. I ended up not finishing. She can’t possibly wrap up Kinsey in Z and didn’t try here to begin. Kinsey’s life’s questions will have to remain unanswered because this was the last book for me. I will read them over up until about the mid alphabet when they were still something. So sad.

Best Yet. I would rate this as her best yet. Like a master magician, she constantly shifts the focus from one suspect to another, until the reader is hopelessly entangled in a kaleidoscope of theories. One thing she does which she has never done before: she neatly concludes every tale she started. That leaves the reader satisfied, but horrified that this might be her last...

Not worth the wait. No spoilers. “Odd how fate is so often embedded in the aftermath of a simple conversation “ Kinsey Milhone returns in the last book that Sue Grafton wrote before she passed in 2017 [n.b:Z will never be written per her final wishes]. It is 1969, and she’s been hired by the mother of an ex-con, who with his buddies recorded the violation of another schoolmate. Now, years later, the revealing video has resurfaced and his parents are being blackmailed. Question is who and why are they asking so little? Kinsey’s life has changed somewhat after almost dying at the hands of a perpetrator. She’s more cautious about the people she cares about now and is more vocal when she feels they are being taken advantage of. Her cousin Anna, Henry, Rosie, are all part of her “family”. Henry’s being too nice to a homeless person who is staying with him...and her friend, and his dog... with no signs of leaving but disrupting everyone’s life. And her clients aren’t helping much- and neither is their son the parolee. It gets close to Kinsey’s last nerve before things get resolved. I have been a big Sue Grafton fan, but I’m not a fan of this story. In some fashion, it feels like she’s “called it in” and the story is drivel strung together with innuendo and very disappointing. I gave it 3 stars because it is Sue Grafton. If I could, I’d like to ask her why she wrote this the ways she did.

Not my favorite, but a good read. I’ve read all of this series in order. Some of them are great, a couple are so-so, this one is alright, but not the best. The main story is good, but the backstory is a bit repetitive. Still worth reading if you are a fan, just not among my favorites from Sue Grafton.

Y is for Yesterday.. Finished it. Kelsey all the way.

Y is for Yesterday.. I enjoyed this book thoroughly. The endings come way too fast❗️Loved Kinsey s character. This the first book I have read in this series. I expect to read many more in near future !

NOT her best. Confusion abounds; names and descriptions of characters blend together - you'll need a scorecard to keep up with this twisty plot. This is the only one of Nevada Barr's books i really can't recommend but I'm sure her loyal fans (me included) will just have to read it.

Y is for Yesterday. Greet book. Keeps your interest from the start.

Www. Aesareaaaaeeraeaeeeeea

Not plausible. Sadly this is the last book in the series and if you’ve read the rest you probably will read the last. But if this is your first don’t bother. Like most of the other reviews this novel was not good, not just hard to follow (won’t put anything in that is a spoiler) but most of the stories were not plausible.

Not up to snuff. I have always loved sue grafting books. I guess it is getting harder to remember 1989 and this book really seemed like she was lost in the weeds without a cellphone. While the ending was a little surprising, the whole long book was a constant rehash

Y is for Yesterday. I was disappointed. Had a hard time keeping up with the characters and jumping back and forth in time. Found myself speed-reading to get done. Not her usual quality.

Ghost Writer?. "A-X" I've loved Sue Grafton novels. Then their was "Y". Boring, repetitive, mean spirited even. Opinion: There is no way Sue Grafton wrote this book. I always smile as our hero weaves her way through daily life. "Y"? No humor. Skip this one .& find another heroine!

Y why did you have to leave all of us. You were great started with A. Thank you for years of great writing you will be missed. Hope someone will finish Z for you

Y is for Yesterday. Really good book -- I've read all of this author's books, but I liked this one least of all. I just did not like the spoiled, entitled brats and found myself skipping over parts of the book. I can't blame the author -- she wrote about realistic, greedy characters, but I just did not find them interesting.

Slow and tedious. I loved this whole series, until this one. The pacing was off, too many characters that didn’t matter were introduced, and I lost interest. Knowing the author was not able to complete the series, and because it was a winner overall, I finished out of respect for the many great adventures Kinsey Millhone took me on.

Outstanding. Love this series. Sad we are getting close to the end of the alphabet. Highly recommend.

Not very good. My least favorite in the series. Didn't care for any of the characters or the plot. So disappointed.

Y. Way too many references to past cases and the details of those cases, as if reading past books was important. It effected content of this book .

Y is for Yesterday. Sue Grafton's Kinsey Milhone never fails to engage readers as she meanders through Santa Teresa to solve her mysteries. The only negative about Y is that it is right before Z...and that is a sad thing for fans.

A to Z. Loved every one of these books.
