The Nearness of You by Iris Morland Book Summary

Everyone wants to tear them apart. But he's not giving up without a fight.

The last thing Sara Flannigan needs is a man in her life. When she returns to her hometown, she vows to create a happy life for her son and to rebuild her life after a painful divorce. Yet when she meets her son’s new doctor, she can’t deny the spark of attraction that heats between them.

The problem?

He’s Harrison Thornton, the oldest son of the illustrious Thornton family. His family would never accept a woman like Sara, a woman who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. She tries to ignore the whispers of her past, but she soon realizes secrets can never stay hidden for long.

Especially from the man claiming her wounded heart.

Growing up in the rich and powerful Thornton family, Harrison has lived a charmed life. A renowned physician, the last thing he expects is to desire the mother of one of his patients. Sara is beautiful and intelligent, and she’s completely devoted to her son, something that only deepens his attraction to her.

He doesn't want a single night of passion, though: he wants forever. Yet there are forces at work and people determined to tear them apart. Even Sara turns from him, certain she's unworthy. Harrison refuses to let Sara slip away, and soon, he’s fighting the greatest battle of all.

The battle to win the heart of the woman he loves.

Sweet Romance. Heartwarming emotional journey for a single mom and a great opposites that grew up in the same town but don't really spark till later in life romantic adventure. Very sweet love that grows from an unexpected place for both of them and a real relatable story about family and friends and the ties that bind us to one another. Her son is so adorable and Harrison is so sweet and has a huge heart. Highly entertaining start to this interesting new series by this wildly fun new author. Looking forward to the next visit to see The Thorntons.

Story is good. But too graphic. Why do these stories have to be so sexually graphic. I had to flip though so much sex just to get back to the actual story.

A Nearness of You. Great read

Love!!. Beautifully written! Story line was perfect! Enough drama, sexy time, & sweetness that’ll keep you stuck to each page! The love was absolutely beautiful! Amazing writer! ❤️

The nearness of you. Loved the book.

Awesome Story. You will love Harrison and Sara. Great love story. Can't wait for next book in series.

The nearness of You. Excellent story, kept your interest.

OMG. I just recently got back into reading this past year. This was the first book I’ve actually finished this year. If your looking for something to keep you going and on the edge of your seat, and sexy, this is your book!!!! I’m starting the next one now.. 😍😍

Wonderful. This is a wonderful book that has highs and lows. While the main character is portrayed as strong, it is a more realistic view of the women that society always seems as strong who never waver. That’s not real life. What is real life? The way this writer portrayed this strong woman who in private and with those she is most comfortable with fights her battles and deals with her emotions. A great start to a series...

Strong and lovely characters, You’ll fall in love every time. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. One thing I can say about the author is how strong she is with her writing. Not only does she make her characters strong, but what weakness she does show gives them only gives them humanity as well making them relatable. From intense mothers who lord over their children to one mother just trying to make sure her son gets the life he deserves, I couldn’t put the book down. I instantly bought the rest of the series and preordered the rest. If you love a good romance with a strong storyline, this is the book for you. It’s not just about the love that’s made but how that love builds and grows. I can’t wait to read anything this author puts out and look forward to Till There Was You!

The nearness of you. I loved her books

Sara and Harrison. Sara Flannigan grew up poor, from the "wrong side of town." She left her hometown after high school and returned divorced with her young son. Harrison Thornton is the oldest son of the illustrious Thornton family. His family, mother, would never accept a woman like Sara. Harrison is older but still VERY naive about his family, how they rule the town, and how snobby his mother is. I was annoyed with him when he would not believe Sara when she broached the subject with him. Sara is still hurt by the horrible rumors from high school and her former classmates continue the problems when she is out with Harrison. She also has self worth issues and believes herself beneath notice from Harrison or any decent man. Sara exasperates the situation. HEA. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Sara and Harrison. This is/was a very good read. It's full of love, near deaf illnesses ,revenge, betrayal, embarrassment, lies, tight knit families, and being happy no matter what others think. The next book will be something to read on a nice day while sipping a nice drink and fantasizing about your own life.

Poor. The whole pity party for the girl raised in poverty got old fast. This book was twice as long as it could've and should've been. Not very mixed as far as dialogue. The girl kept proclaiming she wasn't strong and she wasn't. All this girl did was whine about all her problems. The story got old in 10 pages. Very very very very very very very very redundant!!!

Great read. What a great story!

Love. I really enjoyed all the characters, it's a good love story

A Believable Racy Romance-the Thorntorns don't disappoint. After reading so many trashy romances, finally a gem! The writing is tastefully steamy, and the characters and dynamic of the Thornton family is refreshingly believable. Actually looking forward to reading more about the Thornton love adventures.

The nearest of you.. Why all the nitty gritty sex!!!! You had a wonderful story, however, to me this ruins it.

Romantic family drama. Iris Morland in The Nearness of You (The Thorntons Book 1) wrote a heartwarming story of Sara Flannigan a divorced women from the wrong side of the track who returns to her hometown to help her estranged recuperating alcoholic mother. She meets Dr. Harrison Throrton her son's oncologist and they are instantly attracted to each other. The story Iris Morland wrote is a romantic emotional family drama and well worth your time to read. I read the Nearness of You (The Thorntons Book 1) twice. Once for myself, then this time as an ARC and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Sweet. Sweet story about a single Mom finding romance again. As many times as I've read stories like this I still love them. Happy ending are my weakness.

The nearness of you. Very good!!

Engaging, Enjoyable Read 👍. I appreciate when authors offer the first book in a series free of charge (thank you, Iris Morland!), which is how I read this one. It’s apparent to me that it’s a marketing strategy that often works well for both parties, being a beneficial variety of value exchange: I get a free book and if I really enjoy it, I will most likely go on to buy the others in the series. The question on reading this first in a series then becomes “Did I actually enjoy it that much to buy the next one?“ I liked many aspects of this book, including that there is a certain depth and complexity to the main and secondary characters portrayed, and their relationships with their own pasts and each other. Harrison and Sara, Caleb, Ruth and Megan, the elder and sibling Thorntons ... Most of it is believable enough to satisfy the need for some ‘real life’ credibility to follow along. Naturally, there is plenty of fantasy involved as well, after all, too much reality is not a lot of fun to read about ... just look around you and go to news and social sites if you prefer “reality!” A good romance uplifts, which I think means we want a certain mix of believable and fairy tale, to keep us engaged. That combo works in this book, IMO. Kudos! My challenge though, came with the sex scenes ... the book should come with a warning that there is significant graphic content to skip over, if your preference is for less of that. I don’t mind brief graphic love scenes, they add a little ‘je ne sais quoi’ element usually as they definitely convey the romantic partners’ attraction and then commitment to each other. Here though, I didn’t enjoy the length/extent of some of the intimate descriptions included. It didn’t add to the story and in a couple of spots just moved into what felt to me like an unnatural voyeurism, so I turned the pages to get past that. It is nice to see a child’s story, character and the part they play well rendered, as here in 6-year-old James, rather than its often being a means to an end, poorly developed and insignificant, except for nominally creating or underpinning some circumstance in the adults’ lives. All of the above means that although I enjoyed the plot, characters, and would like to follow up to see Megan’s story developed next, and see some of this book’s characters re-appearing, it hasn’t succeeded in making me ready to pay the current full price for it. The book stands on its own fine though, fortunately, so I will still recommend the book with the above-noted cautions included (and thus grant my rating of 4 ⭐️).

Good Concept and story but the love was a bit too 'instant' for me. I bought this book in April and read it in May and I also received a free copy of this book via Booksprout so I am voluntarily leaving a review. While this book was a great idea and I did not dislike it, i felt that Harrison's love for Sara happened too unnaturally fast, there was never really a period where he was slowly falling in love with her and trying to decide if what he was feeling was love. Instead it felt like he met her, decided he liked her and then all of a sudden loved her out of nowhere. I still did enjoy the book, even if it was just for the concept. I am going to leave a quick note about how I personally use star ratings and what a 3 1/2 review means to me. 1 stars means that I absolutely hated the book and would have left a 0 star review if I could have. 2 stars means it wasn't unbearable but I certainly wouldn't recommend it. 3 stars means that I did like it but that i probably wont re read it, I might still recommend it though. 3 1/2 stars meant the above but with a bonus 1/2 stars because I did love the idea of the plot and will still continue to read the series or more from the author if I got books for free or cheap. I also might re read my favorite scenes. 4 stars means that I loved it, would recommend it, buy more from the author, and re read the books multiple times in full. I was very happy with the way it ended but I might have wanted more closure with the characters, universe, or book. 5 stars means it is one of my favorite books ever, I will re read the books and the author and I was extremely happy and satisfied with the way it ended, I wouldn't change a thing.

The Nearness Of You. An okay read.
