Remember the Time by Bill Whitfield, Javon Beard & Tanner Colby Book Summary

A compellingly candid memoir that details Jackson's life in seclusion, by the bodyguards who were with him in his final days - with a new introduction to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Michael Jackson's death .

Hounded by the tabloid media, driven from his self-made sanctuary, Neverland, Michael Jackson spent his final years moving from city to city, living with his three children in virtual seclusion -- a futile attempt to escape a world that wouldn't leave him alone. During that time, two men served as the singer's personal security team: Bill Whitfield, a former cop and veteran of the security profession, and Javon Beard, a brash, untested rookie, both single fathers themselves.

Stationed at his side nearly 24/7, their job was to see and hear everything that transpired, and to keep everyone else out, making them the only two men who know what 60 million fans around the world still want to know: What really happened to the King of Pop?

Driven by a desire to show the world who Michael Jackson truly was, Whitfield and Beard have produced the only definitive, first-person account of Michael Jackson's last years: the extreme measures necessary to protect Jackson and his family, the financial struggles that led their pay to be suspended for weeks at a time, the simple moments of happiness they managed to share in a time of great stress, the special relationship Jackson shared with his fans, and the tragic events that culminated in the singer's ill-fated comeback, This Is It. The truth is far more captivating than anything you've yet heard.

An indispensable piece of pop-culture history, Remember the Time is the story of a man struggling to live a normal life under extraordinary circumstances, of a father fighting to protect and provide for his children. Remember the Time is the book that dismantles the tabloid myths once and for all to give Michael Jackson back his humanity.

Amazing Read. I can tell you that if you’re looking for an honest unbiased read about what was actually going on with Michael Jackson, I highly recommend this book. It gives a glimpse into what he had to deal with and look into two gentlemen that truly cared about Mr. Jackson and his children well-being. These gentlemen are honest, loyal and professional. I can’t thank Bill and Javan enough for this outstanding work. Very informative and eye opening. I love how they could separate the man from the King Of Pop. No rumors, no gossip, no trash! You’re getting the real story.

Really good book. Really gives you behind the scene of Michael Jackson life.. Really a good book if you want to know how Michael Jackson life was behind closed doors

Tough Read. For anybody that loves Michael Jackson like I do, this book is truly heartbreaking to read. It is wonderful to see the beautiful person he was, and two people that looked upon him with understanding and protective eyes. It is also, however, disheartening and disappointing to see the chaos, the drama and the vultures. The reality that Michael Jackson had almost nobody in his last years was hard to accept, but important to understanding him. Please read.

Love this book!. When this one came out first i was thinking "Ahh that's another money bag off his name!" But seriously now that i have read it and understood more a lot more than i ever knew. I thank Bill and Javon for their dedication for the man and for this book. As i was reading through it in times it felt like i wad there. Anyone who love or not (MJ) i recommend to read this book because it will help you open your mind to the truth and see the things for what they really are. Thank you again Bill and Javon!

Excellent. A truthful account of the complexity of being Michael Jackson the man, the father, the friend. Not perfect but a human being that wanted what we all want. Not what the tabloids portrayed.

Speechless (no pun intended ❤️). I am in tears. I took screenshots of multiple pages I will keep with me forever. One that stood out to me was Michael’s hilarious comment about how of course the crowd didn’t follow them because the bodyguard said it was Prince! (Lol) I got emotional over picturing Michael singing ‘My Prerogative’ by Bobby brown in the car- I wish he was there to re-record it for his comeback, I can only imagine what it would’ve sounded like. The over arching message I got, especially towards the end of this book, is that this was meant for the true FANS. The moment Bill describes looking into the audience at Michael’s memorial and seeing all these Hollywood stars that were never around, but saw that one fan always camped out in front of his house, and said how she deserved to be there- gave me chills. They didn’t make any profit from this other than to preserve his legacy and share “another side of Michael the fans deserve to know.” Thank you so much Bill & Javon for taking us on a journey with you. I feel like I was right there with you.

True friends. I didn't want to read a book about Michael Jackdon, that could possibly have made up stories, exaggerations, or bias for or against M.J. I just wanted find something real and not fluff or vindictive. These body guards wrote this book, and honored Michael Jackson the proper way. They showed him as a person with up's and downs, his unbelievable kindness and his frustrations. They didn't sugar coat anything, but told it like it was. Life was hard for him and he wasn't perfect, but he tried his best and was a fantasic father. I am so glad these 2 men are his true friends and not out to profit off of his passing. It is truly worth reading if you want to know the real Michael and not the persona the media/record companies have created.
