Mastering Minimalism: Eight Steps To A Life Of Less Stuff And More Freedom by Emily Josephine Book Summary

The journey toward Minimalism can be tricky. This book will help make the journey of learning how to be a minimalist much less difficult – even enjoyable – for you.

Wannabe minimalists often have not only hundreds, if not thousands, of material goods to declutter, but also a plethora of mainstream mindsets that make navigating their way toward voluntary simplicity a rough and rocky path. I wrote this book to ease that navigation process for newbies. I also wrote it to help intermediate Minimalists who want to dive deeper into the journey, to overcome the obstacles that are holding them back. The steps and tips are those that my husband and I used to begin the journey toward Minimalism, and the ones we continue to use to remain on the path.

The book begins by briefly addressing what Minimalism truly is (as opposed to what religious minimalist gurus have made many people think it is). It continues by explaining the benefits of becoming a minimalist.

The rest of the book, the bulk of it, describes the steps you need to take in order to master Minimalism; that is, to overcome the insidious materialistic mindset of the modern age and to integrate the philosophy into your soul so completely that it becomes as easy as breathing.

The first step toward simple living is one you likely won’t hear about in any other book on the subject. Then, you will be asked to consider two major paradigm shifts that will completely change the way you look at material goods. The remaining steps are more practical and hands-on, enabling you to take instant action on your desire to join the minimalist movement.

If you are looking at becoming a minimalist, or you have already begun moving toward it but need some encouragement to “fight the good fight,” read this book. It will help.

Great intro to minimalism. Fantastic, quick read. Short and to the point.

Easy to understand.. Very easy Read!

Insightful. A quick, enjoyable and insightful read

Pretty good. Pretty good short read

Easy, informational, and inspirational read. Great information! I’m already on my journey to minimalism and I absolutely loved this book!

Mastering Minimalism - Emily Josephine. This was a really great read. Very down to earth, practical and served up with a great sense of humor along the way! I learned a lot of new concepts and plan to implement them in my daily life. Loved this Author and this book!

Live simply and happy. Great and quick read. Simple to remember and reinforces my thoughts to declutter and live more free

Loved!. Such a great, quick read. And a real eye opener at times

Great quick read for minimalism. Thank you! Great quick read to introduce to minimalism!

love it (& myself a little more). very effective & succinct. I like her very personal & humorous writing style. thank you!

So helpful. Although quirky and silly, I find this book gets straight to the point. It was very Providencial for me to read this book at this time.

Mastering Minimalist. This book was very straight forward, easy to understand and I am very inspired. I’m sending it to my husband to read. I’m ready for these changes and I love having steps to organize my steps and my thinking!!!! Thank you!!!

Highly recommend. Lots of useful information

Master Minimalism Eight steps. Step by step and options to get started, very helpful.

Great tipa. Great ideas to begin living a minimalistic lifestyle! A quick and easy read.

Good insight; a bit abrasive. This was an easy, and fairly quick read. A lot of the suggestions, I've read in other articles and books, but some refreshing insight was definitely offered in this book. Being new to the minimalist world, I am trying to find free resources to help with my journey. This fit the bill, however I did find some of the wording to be to abrasive. Overall, I'm glad I took the time to read, and even more that I didn't pay for the book.

Great book. Simple easy to follow. Stuff gives me anxiety. I feel like I am being buried alive. This book is amazing.

Good read. Learned a lot about the ways of minimalism! Most importantly, in a way that didn’t feel rigid but certainly adaptable

Beautiful, amazing so helpful. If you are like me trying to make life easier then this short, sweet book will help you in your journey. It took me 45 minutes to read ( with interruptions by my children). Give it a try, it is fantastic.

Solid primer. This book was a good primer. I just think more detailed strategies (or specific examples, like for organizing things like your closet, drawers, etc) would make this book a more helpful guide.

Minimalism made easy. I don’t believe the extreme minimalist lifestyle is for me, but I have been curious as to how minimalists make it possible. This book was a gentle, step-by-step guide to nudge you in that direction. Her steps and practices seem attainable and easy. It has definitely given me a different perspective and mindset, which I would imagine is the overall goal.

Thanks. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the topic. A few new ideas along with several awesome reminders.

Good Book! Great advice. I loved this book ! Thank you !!

Quick read of good reminders. Mostly familiar reminders in a funny tone of nudging and encouragement

Quick read that gets you thinking. I think this is a great mini intro if you’re someone who either has no idea what minimalism is OR you’re someone who has known the basics for a while but refused to actually dip into reading about it. Great free read that also allows the author to tell you a bit more about the rest of her books. You will leave the read with some good action steps for your life! You may also feel similar to myself where you leave realizing you have been working towards a lot of what she is suggesting but maybe have one or 2 bigger growth areas. If you like self help and challenging your brain to make new pathways—this is a nice quick read for you!

Some thought provoking content. Thought-provoking content marred with contrived humor and attempts at endearment. Near the end of the booklet it turned into an ad with several references to other works by the author. Also, gender stereotypes throughout.

Really great segway into minimalism!. I have always been curious about what minimalism all entails and this was a great intro into the lifestyle change without feeling overwhelming. I can’t wait to share this with my spouse and start our journey into living a more simple life ❤️ (As I sit here in my overly cluttered garage lol) Great read!!

Quick witted and a quick read. For someone who is interested in minimalism or is curious to see a little how we view things, this book is great. Detailed steps and a few chuckles will open your mind to that weird thing we call simple living…. Came for the subject stayed for the laughs definitely going to be checking out some other books from the author and adding this to my recommendation list.

Thoughtful. I enjoyed this book. It had a lot of great tips I will apply as I transition into a more minimalistic lifestyle.

Great read. Wow! Quick and easy read, also very entertaining. I can’t wait to get started. I still have Marie … what’s the name, book; too much to read on organizing ha. I like short and to the point reads. Thank you! Heading to get another book by same author!

Minimalisms. This book is great for beginners or for people who already started and need a boost of support and knowledge in their journey

Worth the read.. If a push is what you need this is a good start

Great. Good vision

None. Sorry I Don't Do Reviews. Due to Past Legal Issues.

Wonderful Book!. Easy and relatable read. It was as if we were having a conversation!

Ap@jo. Good book for beginners.

It was entertaining. I read it in one go

Short and sweet. Highlights a few good points and explains the heart behind them.

Short sweet to the point. Will be reading this book every month. Until it becomes habitual

Poorly Written at a Grade School Level. She started off bad and went downhill from there. She needs to take her own advice. Less is more. 4 pages could easily be taken out because of fluff as she calls it. It was free and I still feel ripped off.

Loved it!!. Incredible read!! I am going to donate my coffee table I LOVE that serves no purpose. Soon. Doing it will make it easier to vacuum and leave space in my small living room for yoga.

Simple directions to follow... I read this as a way to see Minimalism from another’s perspective of the lifestyle. I learned that I am a Minimalist but certain rules I should follow (or at least steps i should consider doing). It definitely was a good read that was worth it.

Nice. A good read

Hurray for peace of mind. Really enjoyed this book. Helpful, simple, easy, and so important. Thank you for talking about fair trade and the conditions consumers are putting on other humans. It’s so important.

Would’ve been 5 but…. Good content. Being an atheist I mentally rolled my eyes when the author brought Gods love into the book. Otherwise a very simple and easy to understand read that you could share with family or friends in order to help them understand your life changes.

Trefal. To be a free book I think it was OK

Best book I read all twenty twenty Two!😊 thank you Emily !!. Everything in this book is so understandable and it make me look at life a lot different now its totally worth reading !!! Thank u so much im going to check out the rest of your book right now! 💙📚

My first book. Literally the first book I have read since school. So over 10 years. Not convinced by the systemising my life chapter but it was a really lovey read. I read it in one go in a coffee shop. I’ve also just bought the crazy simple book too so we will see what that’s like. Thanks

Good intro to minimalism. A very easy read and nice intro into minimalism. No water, just essential points to help you get started a minimalistic way of life.

Easy read. Haven't read in a while, this book was really easy to read and i finished it quicky.

What a sense of humor she has. Was fun reading it , i was laughing a lot by the time i realised was the end of the book. Love it!!

Good for those who want to initiate minimalism. Good, all the esssential stuff.

Very good!. Very good! Short, simple!

Not great. I disliked the way the author talked down to the reader. “Sit down in case you get faint” as this "earth shattering” revelation is made? No. Just, no. Another peeve of mine is the perceived need to preach religious doctrine in a book that has nothing to do with religion. Again. No. If I wanted a book about religious beliefs (which I don’t), I would have chosen a different book. Couldn’t finish this. Not recommended.
