More than just art.... I read this book after seeing the movie, and it not only had me appreciate the story even more, but had me feeling closer to the victims of Hitler's reign than I've ever experienced. I'm recommending this to several of my friends. The second half is especially captivating!

The Monuments Men. I loved this book. It is a testament to the passion, integrity, courage and persistence of a group of men who shared an imperative value that preservation of centuries of art and culture were essential to assuring humanity in post war. Without the depictions of history we cannot understand our past, for we preserve in paint and metal, rock and glass those things in which we believe and about which we care passionately. To understand our forefathers we must see what they chose to paint, sculpt, mould and forge as they celebrated it in art and documented it in their writings and teachings. This book shares that story in a highly readable and thrilling manner with all the marks of a great thriller, and the accuracy of an academic tome. Thank you.

Monuments Men. Such an important book, helping us to learn and not forget ALL of what war destroys. Thanks to those who sacrificed everything to keep beauty and culture available to us all.

Outstanding. Could not put down hard to wake up in the morning

As poorly written as it is boring. This is no page turner for certain. The character development is non existent. There is a complete lack of ability on the authors part to transport the reader to 1940s Europe during the war. I read this book in spite of the movie but now I'm waiting for the movie to bring some life to the characters and the plot, which represents a very important part of the history of world war 2.

Fantastic book. I absolutely love this book! It was so fascinating to discover the details of such an occurrence, something I was completely unaware of until reading this book. For any art lover, this is a must read!!

Where was the editor?. Great story that inspires awe. Proves that age is no impediment to true courage! The backstory of several characters is retold in several chapters. This redundancy should have been deleted by even the worst editors. Numerous typos and misspellings are unacceptable. Are proofreaders unaffordable?

The Momuments Men....is amazing!. 3/25/12. This book is one of those that I wish I could have read 30 years ago. The reason for that is that as my 97 year old dad passed away this week, I can no longer ask him about things like this from his experiences during WW II. I never knew about these wonderful men and women or even this component of the war effort until just a couple of months ago. This story was so wonderfully told that I was transported to the scenes. And the results of this fine book are that I can yet again see fine people doing fine things for the world, selflessly and in spite of horrific conditions. Thank you, thank you! S. Garcia

Honor and gratitude. We must never forget the sacrifices made on behalf to preserve our collective culture, art and history. This book tells the moving story of ordinary men and women doing extraordinary things; thus making them great in every sense of the world. For the historian, the book provides an extremely well documented account of one of the most chaotic times of our recent history. Highly recommended.

Monuments Men. Love art, love history, longer this book

Monuments Men Get well-deserved Recognition.. Mr Edsal tells an exciting and interesting history of a very important but heretofore little known Army unit, the MFAA. This small group of military men worked to find and save countless treasures of western civilization looted by the Nazis in WWII. The book is a must read for readers of both military and art history as both genres are well integrated in this important work.

Monuments men. Terribly written, no characters developed. Like reading a history book with only dates and places. No flavor at all. HAd to quit after 100 difficult pages. Even jumped ahead chapters and still terribly "blan." A complete waste of time and money.

Monument Men. I was completely captivated by this book. When I now look at some of the combat photos from my father I will look at them with much different eyes. I had know Idea of this endeavor untaken by allied forces. This story should of been told sooner. Having my father, 5 uncle's and 1 aunt serve in WWII I'm more proud of them now!!!

Amazing!. Never really thought about this kind of stuff until I read this incredible book. Well written, gripping detail & surprisingly the best history book I've ever opened! What a fantastic effort by all!

Great book and tribute. This is a well written book and that is saying a lot about a book on History. It is captivating and very educational. We, the USA and the Human race as a whole owe a lot to these men who sacrificed for the benefit of all mankind. I do not say those words lightly. They risked their lives to serve our country and did it for all the right reasons, for the greater good of all. chapeau to all the Monument Men and thanks for bringing this story to light Mr. Edsel and Witter. Do Not Read It If You Are Smarter Than A 5th Grader. Offers little to no new information.

Monuments Men. A great review of history as well as learning about a group of men I had never heard of in any of the documentaries I have watched on World War 2. It is wonderful someone brought this to the world's attention. Really enjoyed the pictures both of the men individually and their pictures of their efforts.

The Monuments Men. After seeing the trailer for the upcoming movie of the same name, I loaded this book up, and am I ever glad that I did. This is one of the most fascinating books on military history that I have ever read. It is so accurate, so concise, so well laid-out that I cannot praise the work enough. If you read one book this year, this should be it!
