The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks Book Summary

From NYT bestselling author Brent Weeks comes the first novel in his breakout fantasy trilogy in which a young boy trains under the city's most legendary and feared assassin, Durzo Blint.

For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art -- and he is the city's most accomplished artist.

For Azoth, survival is precarious. Something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums, and learned to judge people quickly -- and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint.

But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name. As Kylar Stern, he must learn to navigate the assassins' world of dangerous politics and strange magics -- and cultivate a flair for death.

Fantastic. Read this series numerous times. Definitely a must read for the fantasy book readers out there.

Super A+++++. Browsing bookstore and had not read a fantasy in 20 years. Read the back cover and was hooked. Just finished reading this and one of the most gripping and action packed page turners I've had in a long time. Characters you can dislike, love and enemies you wish you were Kylar to put them away! Loved it and have bought the other 2 in the series on iBooks. Could not put this one down! You won't be disappointed at all. Renewed my interest in fantasy, majic and sword play and this is more than I expected!

Excellent. A very well done fantasy that grabs your attention early and keeps it. Full of very likable yet very flawed characters. Terrific action.

'Edge of your seat' book!. There are no boring chapters. Book bursts from awesome to amazing during the last quarter

The book that started it all. I read this book in 2011 and was instantly hooked on Brent's style and the worlds he created. I'm a fan girl for life. Even if he makes his fans temporarily homicidal.

Fast paced. Loved this book. It was a very fast paced book, with fantastic characters. Great plot twists through out the book. Just like Robin Hobb, Brent Weeks is one of the best authors you've never heard of.

Brilliant. Held my attention, re read several times

Favorite series ever!. I found the first book in a bookstore, then I had to have the others. I re-read them over and over and even got my boyfriend hooked on them. Took them to Europe with me for any down time too. Definitely recommend reading!

Cheesy and Slow. I gave up about halfway through this paper-thin plot revolving around lifeless characters. I will not invest my time or money in another Weeks novel.

Best book ever. Best book ever

Fantastic. I have read the Night Angel Trilogy several times and it never fails to leave me amazed. I am a very picky reader and I will not waste my time on books that don't catch my attention from beginning to end. I will definitely be buying any other books by this amazing author!

A Dark Marvel. The Way of the Shadow is a superbly written novel, delving into the dredges of what it means to be human, to walk away from life or to accept and fight for what is right and what should not be allowed. The characters introduced are not inherently good, nor are their reasons morally right, but there is enough in their character that shows that in life there is a line, and when it cannot be crossed, the decision made will define who the character can be and whether redemption is possible. There are many crucibles in life for these characters and the following books will surely drive them to the breaking point. Some will come out alive and some will be broken beyond recognition. Brent Weeks is a master at character and world building. The history and characters are fully realized and beautifully described, making it easy to be drawn in and lost in The Way of the Shadows. **Originally posted on goodreads

Spectacular. This book is a work of fantasy art. It blends action with well thought out plots and schemes. A very entertaining read! Reader is excellent!

Very great series. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire trilogy. Hard to put down, really. This is one of those rare "look up and it's 4am" stories. Not true high fantasy like Tolkien or Martin, more fast paced, good down and dirty fantasy. Reading this trilogy made me want to dig out and re-read the Belgariad or maybe the Black Company series. Worth the money, for sure!

yes. very swag

…. Amazing is the only word that comes to mind.

Brent Weeks. Amazing read that makes it very hard to put down. Can't wait for the next book from this author. (Black Prism)

Wonderful. This book is amazing. Do not hesitate to buy this book. I only wish I could read it faster and get on with the next one!

Enjoyable but could use some polishing.. This book is definitely an enjoyable read. However, it could use some polishing. It was as if Brent Week's editor grew tired of editing his work, and skimmed through the rest of it without bothering to correct some issues. I hope this review doesn't scare anyone from reading this book though! The plot and the characters were very interesting!

Couldn't blink!. I feel like I've been searching for this book my whole life! Incredible story written by a pure genius. Complex yet easy to follow.

Yea. I read this when i was too young to appreciate it. But its very good

Love. Loved this series!! We’ll written and kept my captivated the entire series

Amazing. I've been reading fantasy for 20 years and never come across anything so hypnotizing as this. Best book I've ever read.

Okay I love it, I'm hooked!. What an amazing story! I'm in love with the characters and can relate to the main character. I've gotten lost in this book and I hope you do to! Best book I've read in a long time

The way of the shadows was amazing.. This book, or rather trilogy, were undoubtably the best books I have ever read. The characters were unforgettable and the plot kept me reading with every second I had. The twists in the trilogy kept me gawking. Its a must read for any book lover.

WOW!. Go ahead read the trilogy, the story will rock your world.

good book. can be hard to understand at first with all the fictive terms and locations but once you really get into this book its hard to put it down. Reminded me of the game of throne series.

A must read for any book lover.. Brent Weeks is a fresh new author who not only measures up to the bar his predecessors have set but may in fact raise it, showing exactly why his name deserves to stand alongside names such as: R. A. Salvatore, Steven Erikson and Robert Jordan. In the Night Angel trilogy Weeks combines classic fantasy elements with a new and unique system of magic, creating a world unlike any other. A world in which politics, sex, war and assassination are simple currency and the underground sa'kagé are the benefactors of all. The book is written with multiple points of view and each character, while unique to themselves, have qualities about them that one can't help but find enthralling (if even to only discover their purpose). With multiple paths and plots one might think Weeks would lose focus, but (over the series) not only does he give each character their own moments to shine and amount of depth but the world he has created gives true meaning to the terms: 'Butterfly Effect' and 'Six Degrees of Separation'. Without giving anything away, these are books that will make you laugh, cry, furious and even hopeful. Well done to Mr. Weeks and his lovable (yes, even the ones I love to hate) cast of characters. You sir, have raised the bar and made it quite difficult for me to find new books to enjoy.

Excellent trilogy!. All three books were amazing!

The way of shadows. For anyone who is looking for a good book this is it. I don't read very much and for the last 10 years I have only read military suspense books so I decided to change my genre. Well if you start this book prepare to not put it down. And I really like how each chapter is only on average 8 pages makes reading one chapter here and there very easy and also very addicting awesome job Brent amazing book can't wait to start number 2.
