Wish You Well by David Baldacci Book Summary

Following a family tragedy, siblings Lou and Oz must leave New York and adjust to life in the Virginia mountains--but just as the farm begins to feel like home, they'll have to defend it from a dark threat in this New York Times bestselling coming-of-age story.

Precocious twelve-year-old Louisa Mae Cardinal lives in the hectic New York City of 1940 with her family. Then tragedy strikes--and Lou and her younger brother, Oz, must go with their invalid mother to live on their great-grandmother's farm in the Virginia mountains.

Suddenly Lou finds herself growing up in a new landscape, making her first true friend, and experiencing adventures tragic, comic, and audacious. When a dark, destructive force encroaches on her new home, her struggle will play out in a crowded Virginia courtroom...and determine the future of two children, an entire town, and the mountains they love.

Wish you well. This is an older book, one of Balducci's I missed. It was great like all his books. I recommend it highly.

Wish you well. Boring

Baldacci does it again!. This story is a delight to read. Although different from Baldacci's usual books, it was a great read! I would love to see this book made into a movie.

Very entertaining!. Totally engrossing story. Starts a little slowly, but stick to it until they meet their great grandmother. A lovely story with lots of great imagery. Can see it on the big screen. Bring us more like this, Mr. Baldacci.

Wish You Well. Wonderful tale of life's rigors experienced by a young sister and brother who were transplanted from NY to the Blue Mountains of Kentucky. A must read.

Loved it. Great read!!

Wish you Well. Well written book that will keep your attention. Very difficult to put it down. One becomes absorbed in the life and times of 4 generations of Americans living in difficult times. I would love to see a movie of this saga.

Wonderful Story. Heartwarming, funny, sad... Very good reading

Wish You Well. If any of you reading this review of "Wish You Well" who are rabid fans of Mr. Baldacci think that this book might not interest you because it is 'not one of his usual thrillers', you need to think again ( pardon the cliche). Take it from one who has read all of Connelly, Sandford, Patterson, et al, this book deserves to be made into a movie...it is that good! GLH from S.D.

I Wish You Well. I loved, loved, loved this book! I never wanted it to end. What a beautiful story! The characters, the setting and the raw emotions jumped off the page and made me feel as if I were living the story myself. It gripped at my heart. I may have to read it again.

Thankful. I loved this story very much. I'm a big fan of this time period. I loved the history lesson a well as the story. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. The story line is sure to tug at your heart. You really connect to the characters. I hope to see this book on tv someday.

Wish You Well. A wonderful tribute to a time and place, rich in integrity, ingenuity, and life. This is the best of Baldicci

The Wishing Well. The story told here reminded me of my family and the raw emotions evoked from these very pages still burns my throat. Well done!

Wish You Well. This is a very different type of book for Baldacci to write - not one of his exciting spy novels. However, it is great. I loved it.

Hearts broken and healed. A story of love of people, love of land, struggle and triumph, the good and evil that people can do. This book is one to remember for all time.

Wish you well. This was such a moving story. I was so surprised. I expected David Baldacci to write a murder mystery. This was a special story that I so enjoyed.

Amazing. I absolutely loved this book when I read it two years ago. David does an amazing job at capturing the setting of the mountains, whisking you away to a beautiful place in your mind. I would definitely recommend this book

Wish You Well. What an incredibly touching and fascinating story. No book has ever evoked more tears from these eyes! Almost more heartache and tragedy than one can stand, but too enthralling to put aside. If one can withstand such pathos, they should read this book.

Great Story. I read this book because the movie of the same name was filmed in the next county over from where I live. I wanted to read the book before watching the movie. The book and movie are set in an area I know well. It really seemed to capture the essence of the people in that area so many people from deep southwest Virginia have worked the coal mines until there is no more coal and the mountains have lost much of their beauty. The industry moves on and leaves the people there without much to survive. I recommend for everyone to read this book, just because it shows a world that many will never know, what it is truly like for another generation of people. Not a big city, not even what I would call a small town. A great, heartwarming story about simple people who are smarter than anyone gives them credit for.

Wish You Well. Excellent

Wish You Well. This is one of the best written, moving novels I've read in a very long time. And to think it comes from the hands and mind of David Baldacci! What a great surprise. Koontz has taken the memories of his mother and has woven them with reminisces of other residents who lived, worked, appreciated, and endured the beauty and hardship of living in the mountains of VA. I was hooked on this story from page one, and I finished it in one day. The themes in this book range from 'coming of age', hope and love in the face of big challenges, greed, loyalty, a sense of true community, and the effects of big companies which raped the mountains through coal mining, logging and extraction of natural gas. These are themes that we see in our own lives today. Finally, the characters are so well-drawn, it was easy to feel like I knew them personally. Both the main and secondary characters were easy to picture, and discovering their character and moral compass was a pleasure. The humor of some characters seemed very natural, as well. I will not go over the facts given by the publishers regarding the content of the story, nor will I divulge any more of the contents of the book than I already have in this review, Suffice it to say that I strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good plot, a realistic sense of place and lively characters. As a bonus, you can discover the history and way of life of this particular place and time. I guarantee that this novel will remain in your heart and mind for a very long time. Enjoy!

Kind and sweet. I just thought it was a lovely story with a lovely ending. Well written and thoughtfully put together.

On my 'best books of all time' list. I look forward to and enjoy each of David Baldacci's books, but "Wish You Well" goes on my 'best books of all time' list. I read it the first time years ago, rating it 4.5 on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the best possible score. Having just finished my second reading, my rating is now 5. It is a timeless, ageless story of life and struggle, of love and family, of deep grief and great joy, and is filled with life lessons on the intrinsic value of hard work, loyalty, compassion, faith, and above all the indomitable strength of the human spirit. Carved from family histories of mid-twentieth century VA mountain folk, this novel brings the age-old battles of hard working men, women and children vs nature, the land and the elements, as well as good vs evil and basic human values vs corporate greed, to vibrant, often poignant life. I am ordering several copies to pass on as gifts, and I have it on my iPad so that I can reread it yet again.

Inspiring. I read over 75 books a year and this is one of my top 3 favorites. I read this book when it was first published and twice since. The characters are wonderful. This book has it all, it made me laugh and cry. I love Baldacci's books, but this is his best!

I love this book. What a heart-felt and wonderful story about family and love.

Horrible!!. Read it at school. Would of liked it more if Diamond did not die.

Wish You Well. Page turner. Great read.

me too. good.

A Fave. I'm a huge fan of David Baldacci anyway but this book hit it out of the park for me!

Wish you Well. The best book I have ever read.

Weberreadin - Wish you well. Great book. Although different than Mr. Baldassi's other books, this took me right to the time and place. It reminded me of the hard times my ancestors had as told to me by my uncle. My great grandparent & grandparent were farmers and was told about the good and bad times they had. True to this story when one needed help the whole town pitched in to help. Wish things were that way today. Anyway, I truly loved this book and had a hard time putting it down as with all of Mr. Baldassi's books. Keep writing and I'll keep buying. I'm getting very close to having read all of his books. What will I do then?
