Outstanding!!!. Although I had to read this for school, I enjoyed it so much; I couldn't even put the book down! I would read for hours and stay up at night just to know what happened next! I would definitely reccomend this book.

The story makes you feel mixed emotions, romance, hatred, revenge. It has some jaw dropping moments that make you want to read more! Absolutely my favorite book I've ever read! You won't regret buying it!

Hard to put down!. This is now one of my favorite books! Some parts were predictable only because you know somethings are too good to be true for his characters. It brings real insight into the problems of Afghanistan and the oppression of women. I highly recommend reading this book! I also loved Kite Runner, but this one was my favorite!!

Navigation. The characters of this novel are exquisitely To even begin to understand the horrors that were experienced is heart wrenching. I highly recommend this book that navigates so many levels of loss and love.

A thousand splendid suns. A page turner . People need to hear the voices of the many who have been unjustly silenced. This incredibly moving depiction of the plight of women and people in general in Afghanistan heightened my awareness. I would highly recommend this well written read.

Fantastic. Unexpectedly great read

Gut wrenching, but powerfully told. To start off with, I don’t think this quite reaches the heights of The Kite Runner, although that’s admittedly a matter of personal preference. Anyways, yet another home run for Khaled Hosseini and another brutal, shocking portrayal of Afghanistan as it’s torn apart by war, but this time told from the perspective of two women. This book is incredibly powerful, but if you at all have a weak stomach or are of faint heart, this book is not for you. In terms of subject matter and events, it’s honestly one of the most intense and excruciating (In the best way possible) pieces of fictional storytelling I’ve ever seen.

A work of art.. It was hard to put this book down. A sometimes sad, sometimes happy story with so much beauty in it. The author does a wonderful job of painting the scene with vivid imagery. I enjoyed every sentence.

Please read this I literally cried reading this book I’m on the verge of a mental breakdown. The writing style was excellent, and was one of the few books that actually had me looking forward to reading the next chapter

MUST READ!!!. I had to read this for a high school class I was in. A Thousand Splendid Suns had definitely became one of my favourite books. I’ve reread this book three times. Highly recommend this book to everyone I know. It can be hard to get through because of how heart wrenching some situations are. Please keep reading during those moments. Writing your thoughts down while reading is also something I recommend for this book and any book in general.

Beautiful and heartbreaking. Beautiful and heart breaking. I first read it as a friend, an Afghan refugee, recommended it as a very real depiction of life there during the war. I pray for the people of this embattled region that they may find peace.

Favorite of all time. I have re-read this book about once a year for nearly a decade. Only of the most beautiful and moving stories ever, told through a compelling and gripping plot. A fascinating cultural study of a nation, spanning decades and speckled with real historical events that seem to make the story even more personal. My all time favorite, worth every read!

Another amazing book!. Couldn't put it down till the very last page. As usual, Khaled Hosseini amazed me with his characters and details. I cried... So many times I cried... the same way I cried in the kite runner. But I didn't mind crying. I loved Laila, Mariam and Tariq. I lived with them for a while. This book and the kite runner made me wanna hug every afghani person I meet in the street. It made me realize that what lies beneath these blue burqas is not only covered women, it's people who have stories, loved ones and dreams. People with pains, ambitions and sufferings. Can't wait to read the newest (And The Mountains Echoed)

Predictable. After reading this book, I wouldn’t lie in saying it was a good read.. how ever I feel it was very predictable. The author would always have something really good happen, but with the opposite event happening on the very next page. It’s pretty depressing. Because of that you could always guess what’s going to happen.. and it would :( I recommend it, how ever, for its history of Afghanistan and it was a good read over all.

great book!. This book is beautiful, heartbreaking, and poetic. The book follows the lives of two different women, Mariam and Laila, as they grow up and live in Afghanistan. Their lives are far from easy and Khalil does a beautiful job weaving the Afghanistan culture, political climate, and refugee crisis with the main narrative of the novel. The book touches on the horror and destruction that humans are capable of and the beauty of life that can still survive it. I highly recommend this novel to someone who wants a story that will emotionally impact them with very realistic characters that you end up feeling immensely for. 5 stars.

Heartwrenching. This books allows readers to experience the abuse woman go through in the Middle East, it also gives readers an insights on war from an Afghans perspective. It's heartbreaking and gut twisting. It's not a book for those with a faint heart and fragile emotional capacity. It will leave you crying and enlightened.

Must-Read. One of my favorite books of all time.

This book changed my outlook. I was 20 when I read this book for the first time in 2007, in my mind I was still a child but the outlook and knowledge I received after I actually comprehended this book was changed forever. This book places two women in the Afghanistan-American culture during a time of war. They are fellow wives, married to the same husband due to unfortunate circumstances in their own familial cultural differences and experiences. They go through so much horrid abuse but become so close and build their own friendship/family together during this crisis. A difficult life to live but they certainly make the best of it by having each other, it’s absolutely astounding to read. You are able to see their lives before during and afterward- it’s organized very well and it’s easy to keep reading. I finished it in a day and have read it many more times since! I encourage everyone to read this at least once to see the other side of things, for ones whom may not have that voice for themselves and the ability to be as “free” as others!

It is not only a riveting storyline but a historic experience for the reader. This is my third book over several years by this talented author. I hope to read another soon.

Will Never Stop Thinking about this book. Read this for a class In college. Funny enough the author attended my college and had my English teacher as his teacher, so amazing. This book was by far the best book I’ve read in years. I couldn’t put it down and each character felt so real and important to me. I thought about it everyday when I wasn’t reading it. Now I’m reading The Kite Runner because of how much I enjoyed A Thousand Splendid Suns.

A thousand splendid suns: Undestanding relationships. This book keeps the reader captivated from start to finish while teaching the reader about Afghanistan and its culture. You can feel the love and hatred and how it envelopes the characters so that you feel what they do. There is no better book that places you in the character's shoes than A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Fantastic!!. I read this book years ago and LOVED it. I loved it even more the second time! The suffering that women go thru is heartbreaking! I look at all Afghans in a different light now! I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat. Everything I LOVE in a book! I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story!!

Absolutely Amazing. LITERALLY UNPUTDOWNABLE

Still my favorite book, 5 years later. Very eye-opening roller coaster of emotions. You will fall in love with Mariam and Laila and want to name your kids after them. You’ll laugh sometimes, and you’ll probably cry more than once. I was halfway through reading this book on my birthday, and I chose to spend that evening finishing the book. No regrets. Overall, a powerful tale of familial love in extreme adversity.

Loved the book from the beginning to the very end. I had to read this book for college. I hate reading but this book got me very attached to the characters. It's definitely worth 5 stars and worth a read! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

What a super read!. What a gifted writer. “A Thousand Splendid Suns” is as good as his other best seller, “The Kite Runner”. Perhaps even better. I can’t say enough good things about “A Thousand Splendid Suns”. They’re both fast paced. This one has more female lead characters. It takes place in horrible circumstances that will tug hard at your heartstrings. It may even make you shed a few tears. Most of all, it’s an absolute gut punch reminder of the lasting importance of kindness.

An assignment turned into a page turner. I had to read this book for a class, at first it was just like 'ugh I don't want to read this,' 'this is boring,' but then I started to really really enjoy it. It helps to know a little bit about the society and culture before just diving right in, although KH does a great job a making things pretty clear. It's a fantastic book and if you have any slight interest in the 'Middle Eastern' culture and the society of Muslim religion or of the timeline, I highly recommend this book for you.

Wonderful yet heartbreaking. This book was a quite different read from what I'm used to. I stepped outside my comfort zone and I have never been happier about it. I was able to experience another world from my own through the writers words. It was so beautifully written. Wonderful story. Heartwarming and heartbreaking. A balance of life and death, struggle and perseverance, love and hate. I loved it.

A heart-breaking saga. Powerful and moving story: a serious page turner! I was hooked, but it was so heart-wrenching throughout. Felt deeply for the protagonists and was filled with such dislike for the antagonist.
