The Devil Colony by James Rollins Book Summary

From James Rollins, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Sigma Force series, comes another electrifying combination of suspense, history, science, action, and ingenious speculation.

Deep in the Rocky Mountains, a gruesome discovery—hundreds of mummified bodies—stir international attention and fervent controversy. Despite doubts about the bodies’ origins, the local Native American Heritage Commission lays claim to the prehistoric remains, along with the strange artifacts found in the same cavern: gold plates inscribed with an unfathomable script.

During a riot at the dig site, an anthropologist dies horribly: burned to ash in a fiery explosion in plain view of television cameras. All evidence points to a radical group of Native Americans, including one agitator, a teenage firebrand who escapes with a vital clue to the murder and calls on the one person who might help: her uncle, Painter Crowe, director of Sigma Force.

To protect his niece and uncover the truth, Painter will ignite a war across the nation’s most powerful intelligence agencies. Yet, an even greater threat looms as events in the Rocky Mountains have set in motion a frightening chain reaction, a geological meltdown that threatens the entire western half of the U.S.

From the volcanic peaks of Iceland to the blistering deserts of the American Southwest, from the gold vaults of Fort Knox to the bubbling geysers of Yellowstone, Painter Crowe joins forces with Commander Gray Pierce to penetrate the shadowy heart of a dark cabal, one that has been manipulating American history since the founding of the thirteen colonies.

But can he discover the truth—one that could topple governments—before it destroys all he holds dear?

Another great Rollins book!. Very good read. Huge fan of James Rollins books and this one didn't disappoint. One of his better books as of late. Being a Native American myself I found this book interesting and fun.

Good read. Another great book from JR...I still put the last Oracle as his best...and I'd put Judas Strain ahead of this book but it was still very entertaining to read and I look forward to his next two books...keep them coming JR

Weak military team. Sigma Force must be the worst kept secret in the American security forces. The guild knows their every step and is always a step ahead. The only way Sigma succeeds is ludicrous three man attacks against whole hordes of mercenaries. Once you read one book, it is pretty much the same thing over and over again.

The Devil Colony. Rather far fetched. A real reach in order to develop action and some sort of suspense. Seems like a filler novel just to keep the a commitment to the publisher or cash flowing. One step above a middle school novel.

Devil colony. Ridiculous

Worth your time. My brother told me about this book so I decided to look into it. Once I started reading it I just couldn't put it down. It actually drove my wife nuts that I was reading so much. It took me less than a week to finish it and have been telling everyone that I know about it. Personally I would like to see this made into a movie. I would defiantly go and see it. It reminds me a lot of National Treasure. If you are looming for an excellent book to read that will hold you captive this it the one for you.

Another great read. I have read a good portion of James Rollins books and they have not disappointed. The historical tie in to this fiction book was fascinating. Looking forward to the next book(s).

The Devil Colony. One of the most interesting books I've ever read. The title would have turned me away had I not read more about the book. This book is just full of historical facts without being" preachy" or didactic in any way. It is an adventure of every kind : travel, run for your life action, science, love, revenge, intrigue....this book has it all ! It is one book I am sure that my husband would enjoy as much as I have. It is the most bang, literally and figuratively as I've ever gotten for my buck. Teresa Kerlin

A real stretch. Jumping from group & location may serve the author well, the segue jerked my neck several times and created constant confusion. By the time I grasped where I was, I was thrust into another group and condition. Factual part is truly interesting.

Can't wait!!!. If it has Rollins' name on it, then I own it. Never let me down! Not for a second! June 21st? Goodness. Shoot me now.

Exciting. Another great Rollins adventure.

Good read. Bb

The Devil Colony. I don't think the title matches the book well, but the book was Rollins' usual complex, exciting, scientifically-based adventure. Well done!

Impressive!. My first book by this author. Not only did I find the story line a blend of factual and enlightening material, the story generated an interest in this era of American history that I had not been aware of, let alone appreciate it's historical present day significance. While not a stay up all night read--I put in several hours each day. Although there are numerous well developed characters, one can readily recall their role in the suspenseful events leading to the well developed conclusion. I rarely write reviews. Usually only for those books that "move me" either positively or negatively. (I actually gave Brad Thor's latest... A One Star, actually it should have been a two star... I hit the wrong star. But, based upon this one book... I look forward to reading more of this gifted writer. (No, I am not related to this author, not a groupie and certainly not compensated for this review. I feel the least I can do for all this author has given me by way of this book is to praise and encourage you to buy and support him). Buy it! You will not regret it and I believe the majority of readers will be moved, changed and anxious to share factual information on our history and possible implications for today and the future.

The Devil Colony. As always another well done adventure. Fast paced page turner that kept me trying to guess where the adventure would lead, pleased when I was right and awed with pleasure when surprised with a twist. I've always enjoyed American history and Native American history. This story has renewed my interest again. I have surmised history is filled with secrets and revised truths. Historians I'm sure do this only for the good of mankind. Next time I go to Yellowstone or the grand canyon, I'll be looking for the clues from your story. Maybe we could get a tour guide that would give a special James Rollins guide thru Yellowstone or the grand canyon tour now that would be exciting! Best I do this soon before the super volcanic eruption. Until then I'll be waiting for your next exciting story Your faithful reader, WoodU?

A good book.. As with All of the books in this series, I loved it. I started with The Doomsday Key. I loved it so much, that I spent the next month reading all of the books in this series. I recommend them all!

The Devil Colony. First 2/3rd really held my attention. Disappointing ending - completely unbelievable.

The Devil Colony. Fantastic book! I am astounded by the facts and research that went into this book to make such a great work of believable fiction. I loved the characters and the action and suspense were never-ending. A GREAT READ!!!

The Devil Colony. Rollins books are always fast paced, have a high body count and mix mysticism with science. This is no different. Unfortunately his approach is now quite formulaic, I found myself skipping over sections because I could predict with unerring accuracy what would happen next. He does unveil more about the origins of the guild which is perhaps the only saving grace of this chapter in the series. I also found his attempts to provide a basis for the Mormon myths a little irritating. DNA evidence has clearly proven them as ridiculous as they sound. Thank goodness for the "Book of Mormon" on Broadway!

Great, fun fiction speckled with interesting fact. This was my first James Rollins and my first book on IPad. A fast paced read, well suited to the IPad (I googled lots of the more interesting facts mentioned in the book). If you are looking for a fun, immersive action packed read, give this one a try.

Rollin's does it again!. Sigma Force once again is challenged by natural and manmade forces, untangling a thousand year-old mystery that fundamentally shaped the founding of the United States of America, and potentially threatening the extinction of the world. By combining Mormon faith, and Native American history with the rediscovery of nanotechnology, Rollins brings the reader into a story that is scarily possible, and because it is possible more believable and thought provoking. This is an action adventure with human face, with the use of the mind being the first weapon before falling back to the more mundane use of explosives and projectile devices. The struggle between good and evil is never straightforward and this is well evidenced in this excellent series. Kodo's Dr. Rollins.

The Devil Colony. A very good book. Alot of action....I love the Sigma Series. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Review. It was a good book to read. somewhat believable which made it interesting . Would have rated it higher except for the constant slant toward Mormonism. While I don't care about some references to religion in a novel I don't like it to be a constant and recurring theme.

Awesome. Rollins always brings it. Great read and full of action, science and intrigue. Mixing fact with fiction. Can't wait to read bloodline.

Fun Read. Being a science teacher I totally love the whole "scientists with gun" approach to the Sigma series. I appreciate how well Rollins weaves in history and science I to his novels. That being said, The Devil Colony was a fun read but definitely not the best in the Sigma series. Painter Crowe is a really good character but he is definitely not a lead character so it kind of came across as awkward switching from two different story lines. If you're a Sigma fan, it is still a good read but if you are new to this series, definitely start at the beginning or else you probably will not be anxiously waiting for the next one like I am.

Devil Colony. Kept my interest but not too complicated. Surprised to see Columbia, TN pop up. I work there. I would definitely recommend.

The Tao of Rollins. Superb! Mastery in continuing the Sigma series ever forward. The blending of fact and fiction into an enlightening and entertaining read only gets more poignant with each new book in this series.

Super Mystery. This book held my interest to the very end. To say it is a page turner is an understatement. Full of history and a little poetic license. Absolutely fantastic! You won't be able to put this book down until you read the last page!

Exceptional. One of the more complex and convoluted novels I have read. The story is an artful melding of a solid understanding of science and an interesting twist on Native American lore and The Book of Mormon. I rarely actively recommend books, but I found myself raving about this one to a couple of my patients this week. I really liked the tangential examination of Mormon beliefs. I found it no more unusual than Dan Brown's focus on Catholicism in some of his books.

The Devil Colony. James Rollins has done it again! The latest in the Sigma Series is another can't put it down, nonstop action adventure with all the amazing science and history we've come to expect. But I must confess that it surprised even me when I broke out in a wide smile, clutching my iPad in excitement after reading the paragraph introducing our old friend, Painter Crowe. All the wonderful characters are back and the short story, The Skeleton Key is a great prelude to The Devil Colony. i won't give particulars about the story...you owe it to yourself to read them both and discover their secrets for yourself. What I will say is that I hope James Rollins continues to be maniacally prolific. We're all addicted.

Devil Colony. As usual, Mr. Rollins delivers a solid and compelling story combining history and science. The sigma series is a favorite of my wife and I. We eagerly anticipate every addition to this series. I have recommended every book in this series as well as additional books by James Rollins and as such he has gained several new fans. An excellent read!!

Great Book. Another great book by Rollins

The Devil Colony. Too expensive for an ebook! Don't buy.

The Devil Colony. Worth every penny, had a hard time doing anything else including sleep. Loved it

The Devil Colony. This was a ok read not my favorite book by this author.
