The Black Hand by Chris Blatchford Book Summary

THE BLACK HAND is the true story of Rene Enriquez, aka "Boxer," and his rise in a secret criminal organization, a new Mafia, that already has a grip on all organized crime in California and soon all of the United States. This Mafia is using a base army of an estimated 60,000 heavily armed, loyal Latino gang members, called Surenos, driven by fear and illicit profits. They are the most dangerous gang in American history and they wave the flag of the Black Hand.

Mafioso Enriquez gives an insiderโ€ฒs view of how he devoted his life to the cause--the Mexican Mafia, La Familia Mexicana, also known as La Eme--only to find betrayal and disillusionment at the end of a bloody trail of violence that he followed for two decades.

And now, award-winning investigative journalist Chris Blatchford, with the unprecedented cooperation of Rene Enriquez, reveals the inner workings, secret meetings, and elaborate murder plots that make up the daily routine of the Mafia brothers. It is an intense, never-before-told story of a man who devoted his life to a bloody cause only to find betrayal and disillusionment.

Based on years of research and investigation, Chris Blatchford has delivered a historic narrative of a nefarious organization that will go down as a classic in mob literature.

The black hand. Gives me a better understanding on where my brother is at... He is at pelican Bay State prison ... And I c how hard it could be just to put into that type of lifestyle. May God protect all the inmates around the world and for them to meet Jesus! Thx u for this great book... This book got introduced to me because my brother wanted me to send it to him but b4 I would I read it because I didn't want anything else to be added to his all-ready messed up lifestyle... N just goes to show the baddest of the bad (boxer) just wanted a normal life in the end... I hope he has some type of peace in his heart now that he doesn't have to always have to watch his back.

Amazing. It's a good book for someone that has some knowledge of la gangs or lived in the hood.

Good Read. Itโ€™s not death that should be feared. Its what comes after. God Bless the families who all have lost their loved ones to these devil disciples. God will execute righteous judgement and He will have the last word.

Awesome. Facts

The Black Hand. One of the the best book I have ever read will recommend it to anyone.

Seeing into the future!. This is a great book loved it! I grew up going the same way but fate was different for me early on thanks to my mother witch made a big move to change my life. Seeing into the future that is what I saw in this book if I never had made the change early on in my life.... I really was blind and can relate to Rene growing up in Santa Ana CA in the late 80's early 90's . When I was reading this book is like if I saw myself being him those early years in his life the rest was just a "this could of been me" but I'm glad I wasn't. I got chills every chapter I read it was intense because it's a real . My fav line is "I was scared every time I was going to wack someone. Who ever says they are not ,there lying".

The black hand. I learn so much from this book as growing up as gang member and changing my life tht being down for cause tht has no life rewards will only lead to destruction

Great Book, Vivid insight of his life. "The Black Hand", although a portrayal of the life of a Mafioso, An Eme member and the Things Rene Aka Boxer did while apart of the infamous mexican Mafia, Are just amazing, somr gruesome and Dark but... This book really is what Rene Intended it to be . An outreach to the youth and teens of america as a way to inform thw of the lifestyle and Inevitable destiny of being Gang affiliated. Rene doesn't try to Glorify The Lifestyle or his past, But tries to simply open the eyes of people who don't know the story... the true story, Explained through his Eyes amd expirience...Loved the book (:

A great read.... This is a telling story of the true nature and corruption that a disenfranchised youth relinquishes and aspires to be. Unfortunately, the glorification of gangs fails to show what "The Black Hand" explicitly reports; there are no exceptions. The path is one of heartache and loneliness. The end for all gangsters is slow and painful. Rene mentions that the high ranking and well respected "carnales" all died as junkies. Rene's life is not only a warning to the youth, but parents and lawmakers. Something needs to change.

Modern Organize Crime. The Black Hand is a well written informational narrative of the life and dealings of Rene "Boxer" Enriquez. The book is particularly special because it combines the clandestine history of the Mexican Mafia while thoroughly explaining the inner workings of how Mafiosos politick against one another in their pursuit of expanding their dominance in drugs and racketeering by way of Latino gangs in Southern California neighborhoods. The book itself is a page turner. It's fascinating. The vocabulary is surprisingly advance at times in both English and Spanish. Most importantly the book adds a great deal of prison and gangster jargon along with footnotes and decent glossary to help the reader cut through terminology. All in all the book is solid; however, while the book did end with a wealth of information of the current expansion of the Mexican Mafia; it failed to mention the current state of its main protagonist, Rene. Especially when the book encompassed pictures of him and his sons with no narrative to go with those pictures. In short, the book only gets four stars since Boxer's personal voice became absent in the latter final chapters, disconnecting the reader from feeling as if they were getting the story straight from Rene. The book's first few chapters feels as if the reader is robbing stores, smoking weed, and joining a gang with Rene. Then the writing completely changes from a narrative to informational in the end; which leaves the reader feeling as if they are left only with political mafia bickering and no longer riding shotgun in Rene's life rehabilitation.

Honest. I read this book out of curiosity. To find out if these types of books were fiction or truth! Well it's true, and honest! Very well written and it is what a life growing up in gangs is like. I enjoyed it very much to know this man's life has changed.

Wow!. What a read...Many people have labeled him a rat and such. In reading the book and seeing all the chaos and carnage he caused, planned and partook in I don't blame him for dropping out.

Great Book. I hope Rene continues to redeem himself. God bless brother.
