Don't Blink by James Patterson & Howard Roughan Book Summary

Join reporter Nick Daniels as he uncovers deadly secrets in a page-turning thriller from the "unstoppable" James Patterson (USA Today).
Seated at New York's Lombardo's Steak House, reporter Nick Daniels is conducting a once-in-a-lifetime interview with a legendary baseball bad-boy when an assassin strikes. In the chaos, he accidentally captures a key piece of evidence that lands him in the middle of an all-out war between Italian and Russian mafia forces. NYPD captains, district attorneys, mayoral candidates, media kingpins, and one shockingly beautiful magazine editor are all pushing their own agendas-on both sides of the law.
Back off-or die-is the clear message Nick receives as he investigates for a story of his own. Heedless, and perhaps in love with his beautiful editor, Nick endures humiliation, threats, violence, and worse in a thriller that overturns every expectation and finishes with the kind of twist only James Patterson can deliver.

Page Turner. Could not put it down. Well written.

Don't blink. A real page turner. Must read!!!

Don't blink. Engaging!!

Not bad. More interesting than the last couple of his novels, I actually wanted to find out the ending. Not enough insight into the bad guys. Seemed disjointed at times but it was a good read. Not worth paying the $12.

Great book! Bad ebook price. Great book! Enjoyed it a lot. BUT I bought it in a paperback version. Now I can share it with everyone.  Ebook price is no deal.

Don't Blink. I really enjoyed this book.

Awesome book. It was a page turner. I couldn't stop reading!!!!!

Don't blink. Great book! It has alot of twist that keeps you reading! Has some very detailed gruesome parts but overall I loved it!

A Page Turner. Every now and then you find a book like this that you don’t want to put down, each chapter is engrossing.

Great book!. I couldn't put it down! Thanks much for just the page-turning who-done-it I needed during my time off

Castriesreader. Another good book, fast paced, but I don't like reading narrative books. To my surprise, the storyline was good. On the other hand, the book is overly priced for a mere 276 pages, which is why I gave him four stars (he's lucky he didn't get three for highway robbery!).

Don't Blink...Really. The best Patterson book yet and I have read almost all of them. Spellbinding from start to finish.

Awesome. As always never disappoints and keeps my attention for hours at a time.

Wow. I was blown away by this book. I couldn't put it down because once I thought the game was over, another ball would be thrown my way. It was great until the end!

Page Turner. Great read. Could not put it down.

Meh. This is ok but its far to predictable which isn't what you want in a book like this. There are far far better books of this nature here in the iBookstore like 'Strange Tales of a Cotswold Town' which is very very cleverly written and great for the upcoming Halloween!

Don't Blink. Patterson's latest books seem to lack the depth of his earlier novels.... He seem to " phone it in"!! Shallow Mama Mia

Worth it. Good book....I couldn't stop reading it...

Great plot with twists and more. Great writing for the reader that is forced to put down the book way too often. The characters are burned into your brain for long periods of time, and the writing feels conversational. It's like someone is in the room with you, spelling out the kind of saga you wouldn't stop listening to get up to go to the bathroom till it was over. Bravo! Not for those that are opposed to gore. While it's not ridden with guts, a few scenes will make some shudder as Patterson is known for. Just don't blink.

Don't Blink. Decent but not one of his best. Usually James Patterson books keep me on the edge of my seat. Guess they can't all be great.

Awesome. Good book i like it

Nothing to write home about. The story line is okay but the writing style wasn't great. Leaves you hungry for a well written book that is more stimulating to the mind.

Don’t blink. Always entertaining

Just when I thought. I was sick of Pattersons work this one comes along and blows me away..a page turner, different characters ...a fun read Not sure if it's because I like this co-author better than the other books Patterson has co-authored but....

Don't blink....run!. Never again! Too many tries to be creative and have twists and turns. Seems like he tried really hard to make suspenseful and have twists, but it got ridiculous.

If You Really Like Great Writing and Crime Thrillers, You Might Want to Skip This. I'm an avid fan of the crime/suspense/thriller genre. I also enjoy really great writing in addition to great storytelling. I decided since this had a great rating to try it out. The sample they sent seemed really promising and I have to admit, I was hooked. So hooked in fact, I decided to look up Patterson's biography and came upon this: "Horror novelist Stephen King has dismissed Patterson's bibliography as made up of dopey thrillers, and in one interview called him a terrible writer. In a 10 Questions interview in the July 5, 2010, issue of Time magazine, Patterson was asked, "What do you say to critics like author Stephen King who say you're not a great prose stylist?" Patterson responded, "I am not a great prose stylist. I'm a storyteller. There are thousands of people who don't like what I do. Fortunately, there are millions who do." I thought that was a bit harsh of King since I was really enjoying the book and am somewhat familiar with King's writing; however, about a quarter of the way through the book, that's when it hit me. His writing, at least in this novel, is really basic. It's hard to believe that this book came out about a year ago because the style is riddled with clichés and phrases one would read in a beginner's creative class, or in an entry-level "Crime" novel. I expected Patterson to push the envelope and surprise me with the story line, in ways that the storyline in Larson's "The Millennium Trilogy" did. Being such a successful author, I guess I expected a lot from Patterson. Here are some examples from the book that I thought were especially hackneyed: "The limo swerved wildly right and left in a series of turns, the three of us getting tossed around in the back like salads." This scene involves a high-speed car chase, complete with "mob" boss in tow and FBI agents in hot pursuit and Patterson chooses to use a metaphor that includes salad? Total buzz kill. Here's another: "The 5:04 train from Westport was pulling into the station like a slow-moving snake made of metal and steel." Since when do trains pull into a station like a serpentine made out of a metal? I honestly have seen some 7th graders write better. The book is riddled with awkward prose that unfortunately causes the reader to disconnect from what would ordinarily be a relatively captivating story. I'm not saying the story is super original (almost every twist and turn of "Don't Blink" is predictable if you're familiar with this type of genre), but it does have its merits. The main characters are very likable and the pace of the book is incredibly fast. He only writes "two-page chapters," so in a half an hour, one is already up to Chapter 25 which gives the book a sense of being fast-paced. The reading is really easy too, so one can just enjoy the story without having to turn back and figure out who's who or what's what. If you want a good book to read by the beach, or on a long trip somewhere and don't want to over-think plots or story lines, then this is a perfectly good read. In a lot of ways, it reads like a movie - a "B" movie. However, if you want a novel with a little more substance and more sophistication, this book may prove to be a little disappointing. If you're on the fence, you might want to sample it before deciding whether or not it's worth the price tag.

Don't Blink. The best book I've read in a long time!!! I could not put it down until I finished it !!!!

Don't blink. Good book weak at the end I thought.

Don't Blink. Quick and easy read. Could not put it down! Definitely not a book to read when you are eating though!

Don't Blink. The book took a little bit to get interesting. It had some really good twist, mainly toward the end. But my biggest complaint would be the immature and young boy commentary throughout the book. Huge turn off to me. Not funny, childish and ridiculously infantile.

Good, but....... Ok, just ok. Pretty predictable, though. and each time they needed an explanation, they would simply introduce another mob boss! We've all read this story before.

Tony P. This is a great book for those who love staying in suspense. It really keeps you on your toes and wandering what's next. Once you start reading it make sure that you've finished with everything that you needed to do because you aren't going to want too put it down.

Magnificent Book. I literally could not put it down until I finished it (800 pages). Well written, great plot. Splendid job, Mr. Patterson!

Don't Blink. I really have read other Patterson books which keep me more interested. I've put this one down soooo many times I can't remember what's going on! And I am a huge fan!!!!

Meh!. This is ok but its far to predictable which isn't what you want in a book like this.
