Bad. Starts interesting but goes into a rut and never emerges. Worst book I've read in years.

Terrible version of wonderful book. Like others have said this version of this book is riddled with errors. Chapters are duplicated, words are misspelled, and strange characters abound. It is a shame because it makes a wonderful novel unreadable. I want my money back.

A Masterpiece. Heinlein was way ahead of the curve when he wrote this book. An Alien who is more intelligent and loving than any human. Very touching. It will make you feel humble, which is what we all need.

amazing. this book sends you through a heart felt story of love and life. cannibalism and funny stories on how christianity is in deed a horrible cult.

Not quite as Revolutionary as When I First Read It. I recall reading this as a teenager in the 60's and I thought it really showed an alternative way of living. As I read it in 2013, with another 42 years of perspective, it moves from a possible reality to What it really always was....a fantasy like Star Wars or Star Trek. It's still a good read although a tad preachy from the Father Figure, Jubal Harshaw. It did teach me to appreciate sculpture in a way I hadn't before. I look at the "the Fallen Caryatid" and " Haulmiere" in an entirely new light.

Pass on this one. Although the formatting problems seem to've been fixed, this is NOT the complete version of this book. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one. Get it from the library or something. Pretty inexcusable if you ask me. The restored version's been out for 20 years or something. Not to mention the blatantly false advertising.

Not the uncut version. Unfortunately, although the name says uncut, the text is of the original published version.

Realistic. The best thing about this book is that it honestly explores the ramifications of its basic premise. Despite the incredible subject matter, the characters behave realistically and the reader is able to suspend disbelief during a thoroughly enjoyable and thought-provoking tale.

Best book ever. The book is great

LOVE. What a dedicated spirit-soul-mind-heart. Fully awesome. I grok.

Steve M. A classic, thought provoking work. Highly recommended.

Not a fan. A writing teacher once told me “Show, do not tell.” I really understand this advice now. I’m not a fan of reading stories through almost only dialogue. With Jubal’s constant pontificating, plus that if Stinky and others, the book reads more like a lecture than fiction. I wish Ben had a larger role Aside from that, most humans are going to need a really open mind to stomach a world so different in morality from their own. Philosophize all you want about better or worse, I’m not sure ritual cannibalism, 24/7 nudity and sex as the focus of the world vis a vie televangelist-type religion makes for a comfortable future world. Some the authors ideas are a bit nauseating. However, Stranger in a Strange World is good reading simply for being a window into how people viewed the future in the late 60s. Flying cars and busses, of course. Colonies on Mars, certainly. More timely - the idea of an overarching world government…..

Hey Publisher: Get a new spell checker!. Great to read this book again after 30 years, sweet! But hey!!! This book has more typos than any I've read; I found that terribly sad and horribly disrespectful to Mr. Heinlein.

A science fiction classic that predicted today. The original "Stranger in a Strange Land" was a redacted verism of this "director's cut" complete story as Robert Heinlein wrote it. Deemed too racy for the early sixties the edited version was inspirational to a generation wanting to "grok" the new sexual and sociological mores of a rapidly changing period in America. This story follows a modern day messiah born human, raised by Martin "Old Ones" who provide him with the skills needed for survival on a harsh world that allowed him miraculous abilities on Earth. Meet Valentine Michael Smith and experience his journey to "grok" living as a stranger In a strange land. (grok is in the Oxford Engish Dictionary. Look it up for fun!)

Great read. I wish more people took the time to reflect our social beliefs when they read these things. Don't listen to any of the bad reviews, after reading the iBook version I can say 100% it's great. Negative reviewers probably are illiterate.

I love this story. I hate this eBook. I have read this book 6 times including this ebook version. I have to say, my 3 year old could have done a better job editing it. It needs to be fixed and previous buyers need to be able to download the unmangled version. I found it tedious to read with all of the formatting and spelling errors, not to mention the problematic duplicate chapters.

Wasnt what I was expecting. I was really thinking this was going to be a hardcore sci fi book, but it was more of a philisophical story with sci fi in it. The book was very well written, started slow but ended strong. Even with my lack of interest in philisophical novels i was able to stay engaged enough to come to the poetic finish. I wouldnt recommend this book to anyone looking for sci fi alien invasions. But if your the type who likes to read books on ideology this my be for you.

Great book. This was my first RAH book I read. A high school teacher in 1978 recommended it. I have been a fan ever since. This the one book that every 2-3 years I pull out and read again.

Add good as it gets. A slightly revised version of the original which I see troubles some. I read all the original story here in all its glory. The slight changes just add a little spirit when it's your 5th or more read. Beats the bible all to hell you could say, and tiny minds still read that collection of nonsense. This is a must read for all.

Awesome. One of the best books you can read

A Very Good Read. Classic book. Many reviews before me said the iBook was riddled with problems, but I really only saw a few typos that did not detract from the story. If there were major problems, they appear to be fixed. February 2012.

Great Book/Horrible Editing on the iBook!. Considering that 'Stranger' is one of the most important novels to come out of the 1960's, you'd think iBooks would have made damned sure that the transcription to iBook wouldn't have been riddled with errors, repetitions of full chapters, and repetitions of the repetitions!!! A horrible God Awful editing job. I don't want my money back, I want them to fix this, and let me download this again in a readable form. Anything less dishonors the Heinlein name, which is inconsciable of iBooks. They say that a roomful of chimpanzees will eventually type up Shakespeare, but if that's iBook's Modus Operandi here, it's not working. A real shame, as this is one of my favorite novels ever published. The editing (or lack of) ruined The experience for me. Shame on them.

Publisher errors ruin it. This copy has at least two sets of duplicate chapters, and I think its missing text as well (hard to tell without an accurate copy on hand). WHY DONT THEY FIX THIS? I want my money back. The story itself is fairly dated, but could be enjoyed for its historical perspective.

Heinlein always great. Once again a great book by the undisputed master of science fiction. He never fails! And I miss him greatly!

Horrible Editing. This is a great story, but the conversion to iBook format is complete crap. It is too distracting to read around the typos and duplicate chapters. Give me my money back! Not even worth one star until someone does basic first-grade editing.

Should be on your top 10 list. Just finished, still grokking... : ) I will be contemplating for weeks to come.

Solid read. Solid story but still feel Heinlein is poor when it comes to "show, don't tell". He's fond of using characters to preach directly at the reader. Nevertheless it's a tale worth reading with a rather unique exploration of human culture.

Typical Heinlein. Dated but good read.

Great book. Thanks for digitizing it! There was one jarring failure but the rest was very pleasant.

Good story - terrible editing. The quality of this is atrocious. There are no less than 6 duplicated chapters. Words are so terribly misspelled that you have to read sentences two or three times to figure them out. Some words don't even have letters, but symbols! The Japanese yen symbol is all over the place, and it doesn't even correspond to the letter Y

Not the uncut version. Google the opening line from both versions. I only tried the sample, but it is from the FE( first edition ). I can only assume that the e-book is original as well. Although product description says its the uncut version.

Not the restored version. I first bought this in the early days of iBooks, when the promo copy for the ebook was taken from the posthumous “restored” edition. Unfortunately, that was all they used from that edition. This is the older version, heavily edited for its first publication in 1961, and those who agree with Virginia Heinlein that the first draft was superior to the final publication, it was a disappointment. It was indeed a groundbreaking book in its original publication, but the newer edition is even more far-ranging in its questioning of twentieth-century social assumptions and mores. From the first sentence, there is more to grok, and the flavor much more savory. That said, it is worth reading, especially if followed by the later sections of Heinlein's “Grumbles from the Grave”, assembled from his correspondence, that discuss both the writing of “Stranger” and the ripples it created. Many assumptions that could have been questioned now feel like missed opportunities at best, or huge blind spots to a reader in the 21st Century that Heinlein never saw.

A classic. One of my all time favorites. Makes you think about everything from religion to politics to taboos.

Great book bad copy. Read the book many times and enjoyed reading it on my iPhone. The copy, however, is not perfect. Chapters repeat themselves and words are misspelled.

Amazing. I love the ending
