Xenocide by Orson Scott Card Book Summary

The war for survival of the planet Lusitania will be fought in the heart of a child named Gloriously Bright.

On Lusitania, Ender found a world where humans and pequininos and the Hive Queen could all live together; where three very different intelligent species could find common ground at last. Or so he thought.

Lusitania also harbors the descolada, a virus that kills all humans it infects, but which the pequininos require in order to become adults. The Starways Congress so fears the effects of the descolada, should it escape from Lusitania, that they have ordered the destruction of the entire planet, and all who live there. The Fleet is on its way, a second xenocide seems inevitable. Xenocide is the third novel in Orson Scott Card's Ender Quintet.

Mind Blowing. Great book but difficult to follow at times. Really puts your brain to the test and keeps you wanting to flip the next page.

And Again - Brilliant.... Gloriously Brilliant.

Great book!. A wonderful book just if you like science mixed with fiction. I liked the fiction parts better too, but I loved science parts as well. Personally... Most comments criticized the fact that perhaps the science isn't really effective. But I liked it. The relationships getting more developed was great too. It was nice to see how Ender and Novinha getting along. Okay, it was bothered by Jane but anyways they were getting along right?

Great. Awesome book

Good story. Good story

A little tedious at points but worth the read. Xenocide has been sitting on my shelves for years.. Unread for most of that time. It was difficult for me to watch Ender Wiggin grow old and it seemed to take a long time for many of the elements of the story to come together. It was worth it in the end though. The book presents a number of interesting ideas that make the time investment worth it. For anyone that knows anything about the Mormon tradition, Card presents a number of philosophical ideas from his faith. If your looking for something to read and have enjoyed the previous books in this series then you will probably find Xenocide a worthwhile read.

Xenocide. The quality of the plot steadily declines throughout the book. The incorporation of metaphysics towards the middle to the end of the book makes the reader come to the realization that the story no longer makes much sense. After the metaphysics part, I no longer had the desire to keep reading because the plot became so predictable. Other than the end, the book was pretty good.

Xenocide. I absolutely adore Mr. Card's writing. This one got a little bizarre, even for me, near the end. And the actual conclusion was, as it is in reality, mistaken and unsatisfying. Is it odd to be satisfied by dissatisfaction?

Good continuation of the Ender series. I loved Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, so I bought this book to see where Card would take the series. This story was entertaining, but not as cohesive as the previous two, nor as easy to read. I think there are three reasons for this: personally, I get tired of books in series and lose attention. Also, this book has more characters, story lines, and tangents than then the others. Finally, Card spends more time fleshing out the details of relationships, personalities/motivations, and science/metaphysics/religion. The story continues to be fun and interesting; I plan on buying the next book in the series right now. I recommend this one if you liked the first to books.

Fun in a different way.. Works really good with his series and follow on directly after speaker for the dead. It is done masterfully and leads to children of the mind nicely. It is a must read for any fan of the ender series.

Very scifi. A good book, but my least favorite of the ender books. I often spent pages at a time expounding on religion, life, government, existence and so on. Deeply philosophical at the expense of story at times. I personally am a character driven person so a book that focuses more on thoughts and uses characters as a vehicle to communicate gets a little old for me. The characters I cared about had little resolution. All in all a good read, but for such an endearing character as Ender it was not too satisfying for me, personally.

Read this! (Although read the other two first.). A fantastic and poetic read. At times the science fiction (the ideas and the delivery of them) ascend to a genre or feeling all their own. It really functions as a sequel to SPEAKER, simultaneously expanding and deepening the world

More please!!!!. This is an amazing story, it's unlike any other series I have ever read solely because of it's intricate plot and how it questions the very foundations of human belief. I can't wait for the next book. I want to see what happens to Jane, what the descoladadors are, and how peter takes over the universe. Write the next one SOON!!!!

an all time favorite. 5*

Not as good as Ender's Game or Speaker for the Dead. I think if they edited out 30% of the constant bickering and useless arguing, it could have been as good as Ender's Game or Speaker. But they didn't, and it was pretty hard read. But not too hard of a read to keep me from reading every other book Card has written. Can't believe I haven't heard of him until recently. My favorite author after Asimov.

A good but difficult read. I love the Ender series but found this one a little difficult to read. A lot of science base. I lost interest mid way and struggled to stay on the story. The first two Ender books I was obsessed with finishing and longed for them when I had to put them down. This one was a little harder and took me a little longer to read. I hope the next one lightens up a little....on to the 4 th story!
