First Contact (In Her Name, Book 1) by Michael R. Hicks Book Summary

In the first book of the In Her Name: The Last War trilogy, the Terran survey ship Aurora makes a startling discovery in an uncharted star system: two planets inhabited by an advanced, and decidedly unfriendly, non-human civilization. Disabled by gigantic alien warships before it can escape, the Aurora is boarded by nightmarish blue-skinned warriors with claws and fangs who slaughter the crew in ritual combat using primitive weapons. The sole survivor, Midshipman Ichiro Sato, is returned to Earth as a messenger bearing a device that warns of an impending attack.

For that is the way of the Kreelan Empire, which has waged war against civilizations across the stars in its quest for a savior, one not of their own blood, foretold in an ages-old prophecy. With only a few generations left before their ancient species faces extinction, the Kreelans will wage their last war against humanity, hoping against hope for redemption of sins long past.

First Contact (In Her Name: The Last War, Book 1). Great science fiction. There is a lot of fantasy to read and very little good science fiction. I bonded with the characters and could not believe that some of them died. I cried for them.

A great read !. Thank you Michael Hicks for writing this series of novels! I’m now on book 6 and have enjoyed the universe created within its pages. For those wondering if the book is worth the time, just read it, you’ll be hooked. Great characters, concept, and plot. It will be hard to put these books down. May thy Way be long and glorious.

Masterly crafted. Since I first started reading science fiction at the age of ten in 1963, I have read thousands of stories and this is among the best of the genre. I hope the rest of the series are as compelling as this first book. Looking forward to reading the rest.

First Contact. Very imaginable book. Engrossing What makes the aliens tic. I hope to find out in next book of this series. Recommend to all sci-fi readers. Like the authors of yesteryear

First Contact. A thrill ride from start to finish. This book was excellent and kept the reader engaged from the beginning to the end. I thoroughly loved this book.

First contact. Very good read

Thedom. When's the movies coming out. This books are great!! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. If you like Star Wars, Star Trek, Etc, Etc.... you will love this series. I can't believe I haven't heard about this book or Author till now. I think all Star Wars/Star Trek fans have been waiting for something new. Well fellow fans, hear it is!! I hope they turn this books into a movie/TV Series. (Hopefully Movies) READ THIS SERIES, You won't be disappointed!!

First contact the last war bk 1. Great story, felt as if I was walking in the shadows of the characters. Almost able to join the fight. Thank you for filling the void. g.a.k.

Even better second time. Yep, I have now read this book the second time. I was a klutz and forgot to move the book into my "Books I Have Read" folder. And I thought the name was familiar but read on. Occasionally I would remember some of what was going to happen but only as I was reading it. Never once did I decide to stop reading it because it grabbed hold of me again! If you have never read a book by Michael R. Hicks I encourage you to pick this one up and read it.

Everything always goes downhill. Makes sense only at the beginning

Great book, looking forward to more. I'll admit it, I got this book for free while showing someone at work how easy it is to download music, books, etc on iTunes. I was bored one day, with nothing better to do, and read the first chapter on the bus. Finished the book about 8 hours later. Fantastic. Already purchased the second one and about to dive in! It's a great read, filled with great sci-fi and great military drama!

First Contact. I was expecting to see a pet cat on one of the battle ships causing the aliens to determine Earth was their origin.

Quit Book.. Killed off main characters. Sad beginning. More a horror story. Downer. Won’t finish.

Superbly written. Well written, gripping story, excellent character development, incredibly original. Loved every page!!

WOW. Just amazing! You will have to read it to know what I mean.

Once you start you can’t stop. I loved the “In Her Name” series and was hooked from the first book. What to do when humanity meets a race so similar but so different. The aliens are so alien in concepts that humans don’t understand. Masterfully written, beautifully orchestrated in a compelling saga that keeps you turning pages. This is a must for anyone who likes action packed space operas!

Worth your time. A very entertaining tale that both spurs your imagination while at times tugging your heart strings. The author weaves a tale of a first contact that is not E.T. and I found it difficult to stop myself from reading the complete book in a single setting. You won't be sorry selecting this sifi thriller, enjoy!

First Contact. After just starting reading again later in life, this is one of the best books and series I've read. Being a SyFy and sword & sorcery fan this book and it's companions to come are sublime. To folks like me enjoy.

Truly Alien. The alien concept the author has captured is so inhuman in thinking that I am truly amazed at the plot outcomes. Not by any means a typical alien story.

New to author. Not normally my type of book but I enjoyed it and will continue on with the series!

An Interesting Story. I enjoyed reading this fast paced and action packed novel. There was good character development leading me to empathize with the characters---even the antagonists. I look forward to reading the subsequent novels in the series. If you like science fiction you should like this book.

Bewitching, outstanding, mesmerizing!. Action, action, action! That is how this wonderful story grabs the reader's attention and won't let you go! Keep your imaginative peripheral vision going as you never know what's on your six! OMG! This story grips you and grips you HARD! You simply must read this and those thereafter! I'm warning all new readers, beware you can't escape! I m grateful for this free EPub in exchange for my truly HONEST review. Read now and continue with following books in this series, you won't regret it!

Surprisingly good. Far exceeded my expectations. Gets off to a bit of a slow start, but picks up speed quickly. Give it a chance, you won't be disappointed.

Very riveting!. This book kept me wanting to continue reading till I finished the book. I didn’t want to put it down. I liked the characters. There was lots of action.

Expect the Expected. While I appreciate the solid military references throughout and the potentially daunting premise, it was entirely too predictable. What was supposed to happen, did. The guy gets the girl shockingly quickly and with almost no effort. The insufferable captain receives the poetic justice he deserves with no effort from his abused crew. No intrigue, no twists, no struggles besides the obvious, exactly when you expect it.

In Her Name : First Contact. This was an excellent book. I gave it a four star rating only because of a few editorial mistakes and because it is very slightly predictable in a few places, but it was a great surprise in other places so I guess that pretty well balances out. I can hardly wait for the sequel!

Meh. My attention was finally captured when they made first contact with Kreela. The human planning and fighting told from the human perspective was mostly uninteresting. I skipped over much of the book because military schematics and verbage are way above me. However the Kreelans were fascinating and whenever their side came up I was engrossed.

First contact. One of the best first contact storylines in years. These aliens are truly outside of human understanding and I have to learn more!!

In Her Name series. When I read the first book I initially thought this was going to be just another sci-fi Star Wars type fable..... How mistaken was I !!!!!! Having got hooked after the first book, I couldn't get enough of this on-going epic story covering futuristic mankind's battle for it's survival against a technically advanced race who were hell bent on proving its dominance at warfare. Long has mankind wondered " is anyone out there?" And to quote a famous NASA quote.... "We come in peace" could not be further from the truth when our intrepid space exploration team finally discovers that there is intelligent life in another universe in deep space...... And they are definitely NOT friendly !!!!!! To summarise..... I couldn't get enough of this series, and just kept downloading the next e-book! Even now, having finally completed reading the full series, I'm getting withdrawal symptoms lol a fantastic and, all too realistic saga that really raises the million dollar question yet again. Are we really alone ??????

Exceptional. An exceptional read, you must read these books, you won't be able to put them down

In Her Name series. I read the first book because it was free. Was I hook line and sinkered! Superb collection, great storyline, brilliantly crafted. Definitely not just for sci fi fans.

The last war, book one. Could not put this down, just a great read!

Empire (In Her Name). Read this after reading ‘First Contact’. Great read! The only time I put it down was to recharge the battery. Looking forward to getting more books in this series.

A well written huge universe with a host of characters to match.. Brilliantly written, great characters who you never know if they will live or die, great aliens who are truly inhumane and fight for a cause which makes no sense to a human audience. A well written huge universe with a host of characters to match.

Spell Binding!. The book is one of those that you can not put down! The story is well told. It grabs you in the first pages and doesn't let go!

Awesome - simply awesome!. Intelligent and captivating! I sat on the edge of my seat for most of the book! Kept rocking the reader to get the ships to move faster to get out of the enemy's way! Hicks is a born storyteller. You want to hug the heroes and kill the seriously disturbing aliens. Now I'm on to book 2 to find out what happens next! I'm going to so enjoy the next few months as I read this series! Thrill!

First Contact (In Her Name, The Last War, Book 1). Great read, couldn't put it down.

First contact. Excellent story line

The best in a long while!. The story took me back to the old days of science fiction and the adventure of it all. I thoroughly enjoyed it and could not put it down!
