The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson Book Summary

Now with over 10 million copies sold, The Mistborn Series has the thrills of a heist story, the twistiness of political intrigue, and the epic scale of a landmark fantasy saga.

The impossible has been accomplished. The Lord Ruler -- the man who claimed to be god incarnate and brutally ruled the world for a thousand years -- has been vanquished. But Kelsier, the hero who masterminded that triumph, is dead too, and now the awesome task of building a new world has been left to his young protégé, Vin, the former street urchin who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and to the idealistic young nobleman she loves.

As Kelsier's protégé and slayer of the Lord Ruler she is now venerated by a budding new religion, a distinction that makes her intensely uncomfortable. Even more worrying, the mists have begun behaving strangely since the Lord Ruler died, and seem to harbor a strange vaporous entity that haunts her.

Stopping assassins may keep Vin's Mistborn skills sharp, but it's the least of her problems. Luthadel, the largest city of the former empire, doesn't run itself, and Vin and the other members of Kelsier's crew, who lead the revolution, must learn a whole new set of practical and political skills to help. It certainly won't get easier with three armies – one of them composed of ferocious giants – now vying to conquer the city, and no sign of the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium, the rarest and most powerful allomantic metal.

As the siege of Luthadel tightens, an ancient legend seems to offer a glimmer of hope. But even if it really exists, no one knows where to find the Well of Ascension or what manner of power it bestows.

Decent. Really not a bad read. The editing seems to have been fixed or at least I didn't really notice the problems. Recommended (provided you read the first book in the series)

Age of Ascension. Spellbinding

Amazing. I loved every second of this book. I can’t wait to start the next one.

Addictive. Loved this from start to finish, truly a master class on how to handle, subplots multiple pov, and deaths. Zane was a guy a loved to hate and the love triangle tease had me on the edge of my seat like the fight scenes. There’s so much to like and I can’t wait to read part III

Great book, needs an editor.. This is a great book. Well worth the read. However, it's obviously been digitized with OCR and there are quite a few minor errors an editor needs to correct. Don't the publishers even bother proofreading the books they OCR before selling them to people?

I would sell my soul to read this for the first time again. I will admit the first half of the book was a bit slow, but the second half was one of the best things I have ever read. I was completely entranced, it was sweet and beautiful. it was heartbreaking. It was fascinating. It was thrilling. The characters are beautifully crafted and the world is fascinating and horrifying: what more could you want from a book. I would sell my soul to read this book for the first time again.

Hate :(. I really wanted to like this series but honestly there was not a character I felt any sort of attachment towards. The plot was sub-par and it felt like a whole lot of nothing.

Great story!. A thoughtful story full of mystical adventure.

Wonderful story, terrible editing.. This is a good book. It's fast-paced and engrossing, and you really come to care for the characters. However, the editing is extremely sloppy. I don't know if the publishers had to use OCR software to get the book into ePub format or something, but on almost every page, there was an error bad enough that it interrupted my reading. Definitely a five-star story, but this book desperately needs some cleanup.

Brandon delivers again!. This is a fantastic follow up to the first mistborn novel. It’s a little slow in the middle but the ending left me completely mind blown.

Good book. Very entertaining

Incredible. At no time during my reading was I bored or wishing the story had more of one thing or another, it had amazing detail and subtle quirks that gave you new attachments to many of the characters, even ones you thought wouldn't matter very much. The interweaving of story and the progression of it is seamless and feels great, the twists and turns are exciting as well as a gripping addition to the reading experience. Brandon Sanderson is bringing the fantasy genre to another level in my opinion and I can't wait to finish Hero of Ages.

Long but good!. I love the story, even if it is a bit long.

The Well of Ascension. I loved this book! Was disappointed that Vin didn't correct the world. I'm a little tired of epics that go on and on. Why not have Breeze and Alliandre go on to new adventures? Or so many of the other characters... I'd still look forward to reading them,

Solid. Good read!

Excellent sequel!. "Religions are an expression of hope," Sazed said. "That hope gives people strength." Kelsier. The Survivor. The One who gave the people hope. THE WELL OF ASCENSION picks up one year after THE FINAL EMPIRE, but Kelsier's influence and memory have not waned one bit in the year after the destruction of the Lord Ruler. The skaa have shifted their faith to Vin, who they now call The Lady Heir, or Heir of the Survivor, both of which make Vin very uncomfortable. Kelsier's crew have remained in Luthadel to bring Kelsier's dream to fruition, make his sacrifice worthwhile - only it's not going so well. Three armies are camped outside, each with the murderous intent to conquer the city. The Assembly uses the very laws Elend wrote to depose him as King, AND the mists are behaving strangely...rumors abound that the mists are being seen during the day, killing people. Brandon Sanderson has outdone himself with this installment of Mistborn Era 1. I enjoyed the first one, but I LOVED this one! I was constantly in fear of the armies, what would they do and when...could Elend negotiate his way out of this mess and protect the city? What about the mists...are they really being seen during the day and killing people?! The character development in this one is what really sealed it - The beginning found me not liking Vin AT ALL, yet all that she encountered, endured and learned throughout the course of the book had me in love with her by the end. Oh my gosh AND one of my most favorite friendships EVER was formed in this one - but I can't share who or why because, spoilers. It is truly something you should experience organically as you read the book. (Of course, those of you have read it know exactly which one I'm referencing - SO GOOD!) The pacing was incredible, but how could it not be with all of these intriguing plotlines and mysteries? If we weren't up to our eyeballs in a mystery, we were learning more about Allomancy, privy to plots concerning Luthadel, sorting through rumors about the mists....and also debating whether or not the Hero of Ages has returned to take the power of The Well of Ascension. Honestly, there was nothing I would change about this book. Not one thing. IN FACT - I even found myself enjoying Michael Kramer's narration! I've never much cared for him, but I think my love for this story spilled over to include him since he gave voices to so many new favorite characters. I cannot wait to see what is in store for me in The Hero of Ages!
