HTML5 for Web Designers by Jeremy Keith Book Summary

The HTML5 spec is 900 pages and hard to read. HTML5 for Web Designers is 85 pages and fun to read. Easy choice.

HTML5 is the longest HTML specification ever written. It is also the most powerful, and in some ways, the most confusing. What do accessible, content-focused standards-based web designers and front-end developers need to know? And how can we harness the power of HTML5 in today’s browsers?
In this brilliant and entertaining user’s guide, Jeremy Keith cuts to the chase, with crisp, clear, practical examples, and his patented twinkle and charm.

Fantastic.. 100% technical accuracy while maintaining witty humour throughout the book. If you're someone who finds yourself unable to complete dry technical books, but you'd still like to learn HTML5...look no further. This is the one.

Demo not enough. I'd buy this but the first 11 pages is not compelling enough.

Perfect for designers, enthusiasts, clients, and bosses.. Keith delivers an excellent synopsis of HTML5 in a jovial manner that's simple to grasp. The perfect length for learning about the future of the web in a single evening. Read this book before buying a larger technical manual and while you're at it, buy a copy for your clients and bosses. I'm really impressed with A Book Apart's first publication and I can't wait for it's follow up.

I'm not even a web designer and I loved it.. Simple, quick, and easy to read, and I'm not even a web designer. I knew a little bit of HTML and CSS before reading this. I just like to stay up on what's going on. Great book.

A good primer. This book is a good primer, but it's not much more than an explanatory intro to HTML5. It conveys the basics about what HTML5 is and why, but doesn't go into much detail beyond that. If you'd like to pick up the basics then this book is definitely for you, but if you're looking for more full featured ins and outs of how to use HTML5 in your pages you should probably look elsewhere.

Demo does not do it justice. The demo is 12 pages with the first 4 or 5 pages are nothing but title page and forward. How can I decide the value of this book with the very limited content.

Oh boy. What a shame. This book is a mere brochure. I read it in a couple of hours and came out with very little, it's so unbelievably brief. It would be fairly priced at about $2. I don't think I'd ever buy any more Books Apart based on this.

Not a tutorial. I bought this book hoping it would teach me html5. It doesn't instruct as much as it's a glossy overview of html5.

Fantastic introduction/overview of HTML5. This easy-to-digest overview of HTML5 covers the subject more than well enough to get you started. If this book is any indication of what we can expect from A Book Apart in the future, I am very excited.

Great Concise Read. A must have.

A must have book!. If you think you understand HTML5 take a second to read this book. It really gives a good understanding of how it all came to be which gives you a great understand of how it affects you today. Trust me it is perfect,

Good Read. This book cleared up a lot of the cloudiness around HTML5 for me. It gave a clear understanding of the new tags, attributes, and techniques introduces with the new spec. It was a good read, and the humor made me laugh out loud a few times :P. Buy it if your not already an expert.

Great orientation guide. Nice appetizer...provides an excellent perspective.

Great read!. Technical books are not always the most enjoyable of reads. Reading this book is educational but also fun. Highly recommended.

Over promise, under deliver. Long story short, I was expecting more out of a $9.99 book. It's clear that the author is passionate about web design and how HTML5 is going to introduce game-changing features to the web, and for that I appreciate and agree with him. Felt more like reading a blog series than an actual book on HTML5.

Did I miss something?. This book was more about tagging document copy and less about design than I expected.

Deepness. I found this book to be well thought out and as far as HTML5 can ever be, highly exciting. The phrase paving a cow path was a tad over-used, but in its context, enjoyful.

Fantastic. Easily the best book on the subject so far. Jeremy Keith has made it a fun read. You'll find yourself laughing at cheeky jokes and examples, and somewhere in the process discover you've actually learned something about the new horizon of web design. Join the revolution.

A good starter book. Good with the history of HTML. Good overview of new elements.

Get it!. I preordered the book as soon as I heard about it. If you make websites or just need to understand what is coming in the HTML5 "new world order," you should consider this book essential. It delivers on its promise to quickly (and wittily) cover the subject material at exactly the right depth.

Some pretty cool things to learn here!. It's really good to know the history of HTML. It makes the whole concept easier to understand. However, I'm a complete beginner for the most part now, the parts where it started using other code like JavaScript were really confusing and took away from my experience. If they plan to use JavaScript in their book series they should place it before putting it in other books.

Great (and concise). A really focused and current explanation of HTML5. Truly geared towards designers and not a deeper technical crowd.

Need more of a sample. Not a review of the book, per se, but the sample is dead useless. There's not even a table of contents. I'm not buying a book about HTML for designers based on a few pages of history.

Sample doesn't tell me anything. If you want my money you're going to have to show at least some of what the actual book is like.

Need more info. Without a table of contents or some basic tags description to give the taste of it, it is hard to decide to buy a technical book. Also, since they are not many books about this subject on the market the author is missing a big opportunity here.
