One Summer by David Baldacci Book Summary

David Baldacci delivers a moving, family drama about learning to love again after terrible heartbreak and loss in this classic New York Times bestseller—soon to be a Hallmark original movie.

It's almost Christmas, but there is no joy in the house of terminally ill Jack and his family. With only a short time left to live, he spends his last days preparing to say goodbye to his devoted wife, Lizzie, and their three children. Then, unthinkably, tragedy strikes again: Lizzie is killed in a car accident. With no one able to care for them, the children are separated from each other and sent to live with family members around the country.

Just when all seems lost, Jack begins to recover in a miraculous turn of events. He rises from what should have been his deathbed, determined to bring his fractured family back together. Struggling to rebuild their lives after Lizzie's death, he reunites everyone at Lizzie's childhood home on the oceanfront in South Carolina. And there, over one unforgettable summer, Jack will begin to learn to love again, and he and his children will learn how to become a family once more.

Inspirational. I have read over 300 books the last year and this is, by far, the most touching, inspirational , thrilling book I have ever read. David Baldacci will touch every heart , of every person , who reads this book. It is awesome.

Very moving. This was the first book I've read by this author, and I am impressed. He really makes you feel the emotions of the characters. I loved it!

Enjoyable. As always, you make me enjoy reading. Hats off to you.

One Summer. First book I've read of David's. Couldn't wait to crawl into bed and continue the journey. This was my second book I read on my new iPad this summer and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I still miss holding a book though and being able to read OUTSIDE on my deck in the summer sunshine. Great summer read !!

One Summer. Wow! Quite different from the other Baldacci books I've read. No Secret Service or FBI story but a great read nonetheless. If you have a daughter this is a must read. You won't be able to put it down.

One Summer. I had tears rolling down my cheeks before I hit page 20. This book very much related to my life and brought some unwanted skeletons to come out of the closet. None the less, I started and finished the book within 8 hours (I couldn't put it down). A heartwarming great story that no one could make up, even if they tried. A must read for all ages if you've been through a death of a parent, death of a spouse, change, rough relationships, and starting over. It's an easy read and I would recommend it everyone I know.

One summer. Loved this book. It was hard to read through all the tears I shed, but I could not put it down. What a great summer read or any other season. Thank you for taking me to the Palace, I had a wonderful adventure.

Really great book. One Summer kept me on my toes. I had to download it on my iPod because I wanted to know what happens next.

One Summer. An excellent spy thriller writer should stay there... Very disappointing, predictable, drawn out book.. I have read about 15 of David Baldacchi's spy thrillers and they are by far the best I have ever read.. But this, I almost couldn't make it to the end.. It is a drama beach read....

Who knew.... that Baldacci had a sensitive side. I have always enjoyed his novels but really hesitated to pick this one up as romance is not my first choice and normally stay away from them. Great "sitting on the beach" read.

Sappy and predictable. Very slow read Characters not well developed story line very predictable

First book of 2016. I typed this nice review out only for Apple to say ID taken. Piece of crap. A great read. Definitely worth the time, energy and emotions that were brought out of me.

Best book. I can't put it down. I haven't even finished it and I wanted to tell everyone it is the best book by far I have read in awhile.

best book ever!!. This is one of the best books I have ever read. I hate reading but i saw this book and it looked good so i got it and i couldnt stop reading it from the very begining i was hooked and i couldnt put it down.I think every one should read this book.

WOW!!. This is one of the best books I have ever read and I have read many many books in my 64 years. Read it....Love it!!

Loved it. Best book I've read lately. Took me about a day or two to read it. I couldn't put it down!

Good read. This book was really good. It had me drawn in within the first few chapters. I laughed and cried my eyes out. I am a very slow reader but was able to finish the book in about 10 days during my free time. Highly recommend this book!!

Wow. Im a teen girl who does not love to read. I chose this book with a blind eye, yet incredibly thankful i did. I started this book last night and havent stopped until now when i finished. I cried and laughed and smiled and thought. This, was the most amazing book i have ever read. It keys in on the true meanings of life. Everyone MUST read.

Fantastic summer read. A lovely story that drew me in immediately. I read it so fast I miss it. Great summer, beach, poolside read.

An enjoyable beach read!. Enjoyed this book very much....actually my first from Baldacci. Looking forward to reading his other works.

Not bad!. Good summer read! At times was hard to put down! Good all around solid book...

Compelling. Another great novel by a master wordsmith. Thank you for taking the courage to extend the breadth of your work

One summer. After reading other books by David Baldacci I was truly moved by this story of miracles, hopes and dreams. Great reading just make sure you have a box of tissues.

Good, if predictable. Perfect for summer reading at the beach or by the pool. This book was fairly predictable with the requisite happy ending. A quick and enjoyable read.

If you love romance novels. If you love romance novels you should love this one. For me, I am glad this wasn't the first Baldacci novel I read as I would never have found his other books that I truly enjoyed. I finished this book only because I had $13 invested in it.

David does it yet again.. Who knew? You will not be able to put this down. You will be in touch with all your emotions. You feel a lifetimes worth of feelings in these pages. I love the camel club book and wasn't expecting this. Thanks For this treat.

Really great story!!. I never have been one to enjoy reading but have been really trying lately to get into it. This is my second David Baldacci book and I loved it. I finished this book in 24 hours because I never wanted to put it down. The story was great and I needed a tissue throughout several parts of it. I hope there are more books like this to come.

Wasted money. I am with the person who said they only finished because of the $13. This book was patently awful. Overdone, trite, predictable with bad dialogue and plot. It actually could've been a decent light read if it wasn't for the heavy-handed story telling and overt attempts to play on the readers' emotions. I hate giving bad reviews, but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't warn people in this case.

Wonderful book. Great read. Hard to put down. The kind of book you want to keep reading to see what will happen next. No foul language, violence or sex scenes, just a well written book that keeps you interested to the end.

One Summer. David, stick to the Camel Club, this one was for the Beach Club set.

One Summer, David Baldacci. Love this book, great read "You should respect the past. You should never forget it. BUT, you can't live there.".

One summer. I read this book in 2 days could not put it down. What beautiful story of life, love and death. How beautifully written. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. Hope their is a followup to this book.

One summer. This is my first time reading David Baldacci books, I loved it !!!!!!!

Wonderful!. What a wonderful story by a great storyteller. Somewhat unrealistic, perhaps, but worth your time!

Great read!. Not a usual Baldacci book, but good nonetheless. Great summer afternoon read! Keep 'em coming David!

Great!. I just read this entire book in a matter of six hours, I couldn't stop! I cried from the beginning! Such a great, heart warming, family story!

One Summer. I am always amazed at how strong and deeply our feelings around relationships and family are rooted. I loved this book and how the author allowed the story to unfold bringing about an unprecedented series of deep and unexpected emotional responses that not only surprised me, but also provided the opportunity for me to look at the possible connection to my own close relationships. Having enjoyed so many of this author's works, I was particularly impressed with "One Summer" and the effect it had on me physically, mentally, and spiritually. Teetering on the edge of hokeyness in a few rare instances, it winds up succeeding beautifully to blend family, romance, and redemption into a classic American novel. Thank you, David! With appreciation, R J McMillan Author of "Tell Me About Your God!"

One summer. I loved every word. I cried so hard I had a hard time catching my breath. I recommend this to everyone. Could not put it down. Write more. Pudge48

One Summer. Disappointed in Baldachi's book One Summer. Although a departure from his others novels, I found this to be a bit soppy and highly predictable as to the eventual outcome of the characters depicted. I found myself "fast forwarding" the pages knowing what would occur at each turn. I am still an ardent fan of the author, but thought he missed the mark on this one.

Disappointing. I made a promise to myself that I would finish every book I started. That promise was put to the ultimate test. A huge disappointment. The dialogue was corny and incredibly sappy. It read more like a teenage romance story than anything else. I discovered I was rolling my eyes with irritation throughout the whole book. If you're 13 years old, you might like it. If not, don't bother.

One Summer. A great, relaxing read. Basically a woman's book but men who aren't afraid of their female side will enjoy it. David's ability to hold your attention comes through in this one too.

One summer. This was an awesome book.I could not put it down. A little different from his other books, but loved it.
