oh my.. Gave me the chills. Wonder what the public response to this was like.

Short but fun. I enjoy a nice, short read. This short, opinion-based literature was certainly worth my time. Its satirical nature is a tad undetectable for the unaware, as the author is quite convincing with not only logic but also with the manner in which he presented. I would definitely recommend this quick read, whether you're on a plane or car ride, or stalling before bedtime, or anywhere else you have some free time.

Not the full book. Only could read the sample

Ghastly and disturbing. At first, I had hoped this to be simply a preposterous suggestion. However, it became quite clear that it was a thoroughly considered and well mapped out plan that (nowadays) is rather difficult to believe was even conceived, let alone written.

Not for sensitive people!. This book is satire at its best! With a sick twist and a dark and vulgar mood throughout. I loved it. -Some may find offensive

A Modest Proposal. I HATE READING!

Satire at its finest. Sheer brilliance from first word to last. There's a reason this work is still read more than 300 years after it was written. Highly recommended.

Thoughtful. A well thought out reasoned argument written about his proposal

The ultimate dead baby joke. A compelling argument

Ageless. Amazing how this proposal still applies in 2012.

Perspective altering. I first was assigned this story in college many years ago. (We were to write a criticism/rebuttal) This book has, however, "modestly" changed my life and perspective. You tend not to look at things the same way after carefully reading this satire. It's one of those stories, however offensive it remains, that has a tendency to help with the daily 'grain of salt' needed to navigate our ever crazier world. If you have the stomach, and realize the time in which it was written and what the point of it was from the author's perspective, it is indeed worth reading and discussing.

What the ????. Wow. Ok. Was Swift being serious when he wrote this??? It is THE most craziest proposal I have ever heard, and most certainly glad they did not put it into act. This man must have definitely been on some drug when he thought this up. I do find this passage quite amusing though, with it's irony and I would not be surprised if it turns out he wrote it as a spoof.

I don't know what to say..... This guys is absolutely crazy. I wonder how much people he ate and how much he convinced to eat children with this book.

The Original Satirist. A great and funny little essay.

Spectacular.. Swift has such a concise but still descriptive style of writing. His sarcasm is caustic, yet still he presents his argument "civilly."

Human consumption. This book opened my eyes to how formidable i am to the succulent taste of a new born babe, right out of the over. Yummy...yummy.

Boring and creepy. I find anything I'm forced to read the worst books ever invented.

Refreshing!. I absolutely loved this. It's one of the most hilarious things I have ever read. I love how he writes this as if he's totally serious. It's nice to know that there is still comedy out there that's not just stupid and is well thought out.

Meta-criticism at its finest.. This Essay is genius, hilarious and very entertaining. Reading it makes you go "Is this guy serious?" but when he talks about how it is much better than Merchant's Scams or having so many poor people, you realize his social commentary and can do nothing but love this Modest Proposal.

Interesting. Had a teacher tell me about this book. Thought I'd look it up. As my title states, it's... interesting, for lack of another word.

Lets Eat!. I have loved this satirical work since o read it in high school.

Satire. FYI Jonathon Swift is a satirist. He was being sarcastic when he wrote A Modest Proposal in a very pointed attempt to illustrate how the English treated the Irish.

Swift is hard to beat. The more dismal and repressive the existence, the more biting and outrageous the satire, and when it comes to biting satire and social commentary, Swift is one of the very best.

Satire at its finest!. I'm not much of a reader, however, I am thoroughly amused and intrigued by this essay. Swift has an incredible and creatively genius mind to be able to come up with an idea as outlandish yet convincing argument as this one. I ah first read this in high school and loved every ounce of the content. Years later I still respect the creativeness and uniqueness of his writing. I recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor and wit.

Nice!. This is a very interesting piece of literature. I enjoyed it.

Classic. Brilliant. Dark. Hilarious.. Perhaps the quintessential Jonathan Swift. The language is only slightly archaic. A must-read for even the more poorly read individual. Perhaps sadly, a classic satire whose timeliness persists to the modern day (A.D. 2016). A short read as well. Those whose stomachs turn easily may prefer to avoid this material (comparable to "Sweeney Todd"), but I recommend it to be read instead. In part, to fortify one's constitution, and also because the basic principles expressed herein are too important for one's stomach to get the better of one's mind.

A classic in the good sense. Not a dull book from the past one is exhorted to read for self-improvement, this is a UKIP/GOP bible in waiting. A road map of fresh ideas for our next conservative government, bursting with energy, vim and the kind of creative, thoughtful solutions to problems which perist, in name and substance. Some aspects would have to be adapted, sure, to accomodate modern sensibilities. But a few cosmetic changes should do the trick.

The ultimate satire. This is the very pinnacle of satire, which other writers have despaired of matching over the centuries since it was written. No-one has managed to embody the controlled incisive bitterness of Swift’s short, brilliant polemic. Not a word too many or a word wasted. The standard against which all others should be judged.

A modest proposal. As relevant today, as it was when written. Dean Swift captured the mood of the times with his normal precision. We should well look at the world through this lens

Great. It's nice as it's in the store because we needed to learn this as a text in English class

A Modest Proposal. What can you stay, scandalous then, classic now.

Wisdom. There is practical thinking here to behold. Yet appalling to think of what it would be like if it were common practise to eat poor children. I wonder if Swift was serious yet everybody took it as an absurd joke.

A wonderful satire. Swift's Modest Proposal is a fantastically humorous piece of historical satire. Depicting the squaller rampant across the Ireland in the 18th century. Swift's proposition to cull the orphans, poor, begards and subsistance famers for the dinner table of the elite speaks volumes on the perception of the Irish in the eyes of the English.
