Familiar. Not a terrible book, but seems to familiar to another story that I read with pretty much the same plot and characters, with some minor changes (can’t remember the title or author).

Excellent Read. The author has a tendency to over-explain some things, but by the end of the book the need for her excessive detail becomes an asset to the storyline (You don't get lost in the details). The characters are believable but laced with humor. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am planning on reading the entire series.

Thoroughly enjoyable read. Downloaded this on a lark and boy am I glad I did. Solid plot line (though could use some tweaking), intriguing setting (steampunk fantasy), compelling characters with some witty repartee. By Emperor's eyetooth, I'm hooked on the series and I can't wait until book 4!

Enjoyable and funny. Love the way Lindsay makes the world feel real. They way she uses Amaranthe as a non believer in a world full of magic. She hides it from the everyday people and it takes a little while before it’s clear that this is high fantasy. The bond the characters have and slow build to the inevitable romance keeps things interesting. My only issue was Amaranthe’s thirst for Sicarius. Nevertheless, I can’t wait to read book two

Good start, promising young author.. Good start. Seems like a debut effort, but it's well-written and has a good pace.

Finally - a Smart Hero!. Yes, she’s also lucky, but what hero isn’t? Exciting action, narrow escapes, eclectic characters, noble motives, agonizing regrets, good and bad decisions … and a protagonist who actually thinks about her situation (well, when she has a moment to do so). What’s not to like?

The Emperor's Edge. Great easy read for the beach. I enjoyed the distraction an quite time with the book. I brought the next one too find out what happens next.

The emperors edge. It is a fast pace action adventure. I wasn't able to put it down. It was humorous with the schemes that were plotted and how they were carried out. There also was a bit of mystery woven in with a splash of romance. I couldn't put it down and can't wait for the next book in the series.

Hooked. With so many choices for entertainment. I kept coming back to finish the book. It was awesome.

Worthy read. The story was well written, and most of the book managed to maintain my interest (which is a great feat for any author) with the slower parts placed between action scenes or set-ups and witty, subtle humor which I quite enjoyed. The story progression is nice and consistent: bruroker always has you guessing. Definitely worth reading.

Absolutely love Emperor's Edge. I was looking around, trying to find something to read, when I found the Emperor's Edge. I decided to give it a try, and fell head over heels in love with the series! When a release date for a new EE book is near, I literally go giddy with excitement.

Never Disappointing. This book shares the universe of Warrior Mage but takes place in a different country. Buroker is a fine story teller who delivers intriguing plots, finely crafted writing and believable and endearing characters. The Emperor’s Edge amply delivers all of that. I am eager to read the next book in the series.

The Emperor's Edge. Just a good solid book. Engaging characters, solid story line, gripping plot. This story would have been good set in any genre or time. As my introduction to Steampunk fiction I couldn't have asked for a better starting point. It made a solid case for the genre without losing the story in the minutiae of the mechanics and background of Steampunk as some genre driven stories can. I will gladly pay for the next stories in this series and will be on the lookout for other gems by this author.

Characters. Definitely a good read. Story was engaging, hinting to layers of subplots that are fleshed out in the other books. What I was most impressed with however was the male lead in this story. I have found it quite hard to find a believable character of his profession who isn't just some silent person or a wise crack all the time. The way the author describes the characters gives you subtle glimpses into the characters nature as the characters respond to different circumstances.

Interesting. I found this book slow at first but it did pick up quickly. It has a great mix of reality and fantasy. It will leave you interested in reading the next book as soon as you can. Makes for a great read a with a good ending.

Emperor’s Edge. Mystery fantasy, scifi elements don’t really come in ‘til later in the series. I do not recommend this as a series. The author dips their toes in a lot of things but never explores any of them to a meaningful depth, and reinforces and perpetuates a lot of problematic behaviors. The author focuses on pushing the characters through the convoluted plot without taking time to really illustrate the magnitude of the experiences they’re enduring. This book individually was an overall okay read. Good use of callbacks, and Amaranthe’s resourcefulness is interesting. I would’ve enjoyed it more if it wasn’t feminist bait. Though the story leads with feminism, it quickly falls to the background as far as the story is concerned, emphasized by the team being 1:5 woman:man. Amaranthe pulls the “I can’t eat a pastry” mentality possessed by women who want to watch their figure, rather than an athlete who knows a pastry here and there doesn’t really matter. She wants to be athletic enough for her job, not film a movie. Sexual assault was thrown in as if decades of using it for cheap drama in media hasn’t had consequences or shaped how people view it today. Basically she’s assaulted by a man, has to be saved by another man, and after a page or two she’s perfectly fine, as if multiple sexual assaults doesn’t have long term effects. The author appears to go out of their way to use unnecessarily jarring vocabulary. Verisimilitude instead of truth, mien instead of air, inveigle instead of entice, prevarications instead of lies, facsimile instead of copy, ecumenical instead of worldly, peregrinations instead of courses, appurtenances instead of accessories. It’s not done consistently enough to be a literary device. But yay for learning new words I guess.

Gripping. Very well written. Steam punk dystopian setting. Likeable heroine.

Great new series. Stumbled across this and had fairly low expectations partly because some of the series was free and the rest was cheap. I need to apologise to the author, she has offered up an original engaging series with characters of depth and interest. I have paid much more for much poorer quality story telling from more well known authors. Well done Lindsay buroker, I'll be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Re-readable. I rarely re-read entire book series. In fact, the Emperors Edge series is the only one I have read multiple times. I recommend its quirky story elements, innovative plot lines and enjoyable character development to anyone. Containing action, mystery, steampunk, tension, a strong team-based plot, pathos and the perfect amount of romance this is a great read.

Glad I got it!!. I really enjoyed this book, suspenseful, mysterious, and a great fantasy book. I'm already done the second book and I'm moving on to the third!!! This first book in the series is free, with grammar/spelling errors being rare, and probably rated pg13. Many thanks to the author!😄

The Emperor's Edge. I accidentally stumbled across this book and really enjoyed it and will read the rest of the series. I noticed a comment that spelling and grammatical errors are rare and had to comment on my own that I found dozens of such errors. I am starting to wonder about the process of these ebooks that continuously publish full of errors. Doesn't anybody check them first in the age of spellcheck, it seems ludicrous.

Amazing. This has a hidden gem feel to it. The characters so vivid, it’s almost like watching a movie unfold inside your head. Would recommend this to everyone and anyone.

Love it. This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Often I was laughing out loud (causing my husband to stare at me strangely). I immediately bought the rest of the series and I recommend it to all my friends who like a good read.

I'm glad I found this!. I must be honest, I downloaded to take part in my book club's Steampunk book of the month. After struggling through an anthology of Steampunk to get an idea about the genre I was dreading taking part with this title. But I was so amazed! The writing is smooth and entertaining and I loved her heroine Amaranthe and her band of accidental heros. This book is not laden with made up science terms and the world is rich and so easy to be a part of. A must must must read for all fantasy lovers! And if you find yourself at the end wanting more I've lost count of how many more there are in the series.
