Pride and Prejudice Book Summary

“It is a truth universally acknowledged…” that Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen’s most widely read and widely loved novel. It is the story of Elizabeth, the sharp-witted and level-headed second daughter of the Bennet family, and her slowly blossoming relationship with the honorable but haughty Mr. Darcy. Taking place among the rural aristocracy of England in the early nineteenth century, Austen creates characters that are so recognizably human and themes that are so universal, that the novel has never lost its popularity, inspiring nearly two centuries of adaptations, reinterpretations, and imitators. Austen’s original text, available here with illustrations from the 1895 edition, remains one of the most romantic, delightful, and indelible stories in the English language.

Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen & C.E. Brock Reviews

  • A difficult read.

This was a boring book to read. The wording was hard to follow and there was way too much unnecessary information. I had to skip a lot of pages to even finish it. The basic story was good but that's the only positive thing I can say about it.

I admit I skimmed/skipped some of the more mundane interactions and inner reiterations, it started the genre and definitely created the right amount of tension to propel forward. Happy to say I've read it. :)

I am hooked. There are absolutely now words to describe this amazing piece of fiction. Not only will you fall in love with the romance between Darcy and Lizzie, enjoy the diversity among the social class, but you will also start to feel yourself become unimaginably attached to the story. It took me three tries to read and complete this book. Once you get past the first couple of chapters, all you will ever think about is Pride and Prejudice. It simply compelling and enjoyable. You will enjoy ever second. I know the language is kind of tough, but trust me, by the end of the book, you might even begin speaking like them. I had to stop myself because I was getting strange looks from my teachers Ne friends, A must read!

Bookbyte editions are the best available for classic books -- the formatting is exceptional, and often public domain images are included, presented always very beautifully! Thanks Bookbyte for making e-books fun!

Amazing book. The only problem I had was the fact that I found a few typos but I don't think they can have much in that say.

Don't form any judgements on this book until you've read it at least twice. It is very, very dense and can seem confusing and even annoyingly long and repetitive at the first perusal. However, there is some truly amazing insight in this book if you're patient enough to understand it. Austen is a true master of character development; this book will satisfy any lover of contemporary romance just as well as the literature scholar. If you're neither of these, you can at least seem sophisticated by referencing it at your boss' dinner party.

Line spacing is too cramped. Download the other free version on iBookstore and you'll see what I mean.

This is a great love story set back in the early days. There are many twists and turns you don't expect, but everything works out for the couples at the end. It keeps you guessing, that's for sure!!
