Demonic by Ann Coulter Book Summary

The demon is a mob, and the mob is demonic. The Democratic Party activates mobs, depends on mobs, coddles mobs, publicizes and celebrates mobs—it is the mob. Sweeping in its scope and relentless in its argument, Demonic explains the peculiarities of liberals as standard groupthink behavior. To understand mobs is to understand liberals.

In her most provocative book to date, Ann Coulter argues that liberals exhibit all the psychological characteristics of a mob, for instance:

Liberal Groupthink: “The same mob mentality that leads otherwise law-abiding people to hurl rocks at cops also leads otherwise intelligent people to refuse to believe anything they haven’t heard on NPR.”

Liberal Schemes: “No matter how mad the plan is—Fraternité, the ‘New Soviet Man,’ the Master Race, the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, Building a New Society, ObamaCare—a mob will believe it.”

Liberal Enemies: “Instead of ‘counterrevolutionaries,’ liberals’ opponents are called ‘haters,’ ‘those who seek to divide us,’ ‘tea baggers,’ and ‘right-wing hate groups.’ Meanwhile, conservatives call liberals ‘liberals’—and that makes them testy.”

Liberal Justice: “In the world of the liberal, as in the world of Robespierre, there are no crimes, only criminals.”

Liberal Violence: “If Charles Manson’s followers hadn’t killed Roman Polanski’s wife, Sharon Tate, Clinton would have pardoned him, too, and he’d probably be teaching at Northwestern University.”

Citing the father of mob psychology, Gustave Le Bon, Coulter catalogs the Left’s mob behaviors: the creation of messiahs, the fear of scientific innovation, the mythmaking, the preference for images over words, the lack of morals, and the casual embrace of contradictory ideas.

Coulter traces the history of the liberal mob to the French Revolution and Robespierre’s revolutionaries (delineating a clear distinction from America’s founding fathers), who simply proclaimed that they were exercising the “general will” before slaughtering their fellow citizens “for the good of mankind.”

Similarly, as Coulter demonstrates, liberal mobs, from student radicals to white-trash racists to anti-war and pro-ObamaCare fanatics today, have consistently used violence to implement their idea of the “general will.”

This is not the American tradition; it is the tradition of Stalin, of Hitler, of the guillotine—and the tradition of the American Left.

As the heirs of the French Revolution, Democrats have a history that consists of pandering to mobs, time and again, while Republicans, heirs to the American Revolution, have regularly stood for peaceable order.

Hoping to muddy this horrifying truth, liberals slanderously accuse conservatives of their own crimes—assassination plots, conspiracy theorizing, political violence, embrace of the Ku Klux Klan. Coulter shows that the truth is the opposite: Political violence—mob violence—is always a Democratic affair.

Surveying two centuries of mob movements, Coulter demonstrates that the mob is always destructive. And yet, she argues, beginning with the civil rights movement in the sixties, Americans have lost their natural, inherited aversion to mobs. Indeed, most Americans have no idea what they are even dealing with.

Only by recognizing the mobs and their demonic nature can America begin to defend itself.

Demonic (Ann Coulter) Book Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Well done. You can't argue well researched facts. If you want to check her information the sources are all there. But that's far to much work for liberals who are too engrossed in their infatuation with emotional word pictures.

A rant?. A great book by republicans for republicans and for someone that already believes what the book is about and will not question the arguments.

Major, USAF (Retired). A revealing and scary look at today's liberal establishment. In my dealings with liberals I have found that when a logical rebuttal to their idealogy is attempted, their usual response is to interrupt and shout down the responder. I can only assume that this is because they are afraid the challenge will undermine their beliefs.

Certainly thought inducing. Ann Coulter uses the accepted writings of French psychologist, Gustav LeBon, to compare his observations of mob psychology to mainstream liberalism. She notes that mobs, like liberals, idolize their leaders (the 2008 election is a prime example), make frequent use of simple phrases to get their points across (hope, change, save the whales, etc.), and will completely abandon all forms of logic and reason to argue their ideas (Al Gore flies a private jet to give a speech about global warming). Ironically, Coulter states that logic and reason is not enough to sway the mob-like mentality of liberals. That saying, liberals will find this book completely worthless while true free thinkers will find it thought inducing and interesting. It is definitely one of Coulter's best.

Misleading. Anne Coulter is once again tapping on your fish tank by spreading mistrust and ill will. Ms. Coulter has a history of writing very slanted truths (when she writes truth at all). I'm VERY conservative but I dislike Coulter's misuse of truth, the American people and the constitution.

Demonic. Her best book. A must read to see what the liberal mob is up to and what it is capable of. A perfect example is the one star reviews written by idiots who have not even read the book.

Educational and thought provoking. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and learned a lot from Ann. Glad I went with my impulse and purchased this one, it was great. Really was a hard book to put down! It is quite funny reading the one star reviews... Not that I care what someone who hasn't read the book thought, but maybe (especially in this case) you should read the book before criticizing it. She (Ann) is talking about you (1 star rated/non reading) critics... Anyone who actually HAS read the book can easily see who you really are... Intellectually that is!

Demonic?. Like the mob that rebelled and created the U.S. in the first place? Ironic that she will tell us all the reasons a mob is "demonic"........in an effort to create her own group-think mob!

Devastating. Coulter more than exposes liberal lunacy - this time we learn a good bit about what drives the crazies! Loads of fun to read.

Not impressed. Truly dull

Complete garbage!. This is nothing but garbage. Seriously. Don't waste your money.

Hysterical!. This woman is clearly unhinged, along with all the other wingnuts who believe what comes out of this idiot's mouth.

AWFUL. This is one of the saddest books ever put into print. This is clearly a very unhappy person. I shudder to think about the level of anger a person needs to spew forth these biased, uneducated opinions. One word sums it up, GARBAGE.

Liberals. Liberals can't handle the truth. Great book!

Mob or Popular Support. I don't believe that Thomas Jefferson or Andrew Jackson would agree with Coulter's thesis. What Coulter calls the "mob" are you and I the citizens of the United States of America. Ann would have you believe that our opinion doesn't count. Ann is a classic Hamiltonian who believes that this country is better as an oligarchy run by the special interests of the economic elite. I don't find her arguments convincing in the least. Anyone who has studied American political history will have no problem seeing the holes in logic here.

Seriously??!. Liberals follow mob mentality? Seriously? I wonder how the GOP's Tea Party would be characterized then.

Truth spoken here. Ann is one of the few conservatives who is not afraid to tell the truth. More and more conservatives are following suit. (Andrew Breitbart is one) What is crazy is the fact that many conservatives are afraid to talk about this stuff for fear of being labeled as racist, bigoted, etc. You can see this fact in some of the reviews here. One person didn't even read the book, oh wait they didn't have to, the media establishment already gave them the information they need.

Read the book first, then review. It is obvious to anyone that reads these reviews that those giving the book a 1 star review have not read the book. Not one 1 star review addresses any of the thoughts, ideas or opinions Ms. Coulter puts forth. The book is well written, well researched and thought provoking no matter where you stand politically. It appears that many (liberals?) are attacking Ms. Coulter and rating her book with 1 star because they were too lazy, or don't know how, to actually read the book. Whether you agree with Ms. Coulter or not, Demonic is worth the read.

Woo. Really makes sense. More people, more power. Choose your pathway.

Lies. Hate is not the way to solve political conflict

Idiots. You have to love the idiot that writes "I haven't read this book, but it's bad!". Thank you moron! You just proved Coulter's point! Does anyone wonder why we're in the position we're in?!?

Demonic. Makes excellent points. Very easy to read. A lot of good research went int this book. I highly recommend it.

Fantastic. Great work compiling all of the left's stupidity in one work. Synopsis is both flawless and frightening. Of course if you're a liberal you should probably just go back to your world of unicorns and rainbows and just pass this one on by - it won't make sense to you.

Informative and entertaining. As is the case with all of Ann Coulter's books I have read, Demonic is packed with amazing historical details, meticulously cited, and analyzed with brilliant insights. The book is also fun to read, because of Ann's scathing sense of humor. Demonic demonstrates the dangers of mob mentality throughout history, including modern American history. This book will serve as a valuable reference for current events. It is a must read along with most of her other works.

The Best One Yet. I have been a fan for years and have read each one of Ann's books. I have enjoyed each and every word. Without slighting any of her previous work, I have to confess: This is her best work yet. The historical context in which she places modern day liberals is incredibly enlightening. To read this book is to strengthen one's love for our country while learning quite a bit about it's place in world history. Thank You Ann!

Ultimate of Inaccurate. What she's actually describing is the dangerous, hateful, and (somehow still powerful) joke that the Republican Party has become. The GOP is on it's way out.

You go, girl!. A liberal mob takes over the Wisconsin State House; liberal mobs "occupy" any of a hundred town squares or parks. Coulter has gone into the lion's den on many college campus venues, being shouted down, physically assaulted, and has had her life threatened. Yet, the thoroughly indoctrinated call HER the wing nut. Incredible. Keep shining the light of truth. You go, girl!

Teacher. Propaganda and defamatory. As a Republican I am embarrassed to read this hate-fueled diatribe. Why can't we all work together?

Demonic. ...and people are buying this?

Enough. All of this hate is so detrimental to any improvement in our society. This "book" is disgusting and saddens me that mature adults can be so oblivious. It seems that the only thing republicans use to hold on to their constituency is fear and more fear - Coulter's arguments are a prime example of that. "Look out everybody, beware of the liberals! They are as dangerous as a mob! They're going to take over if we don't stop them!!!!" Really Ann?! I thought liberals were the ones who want stricter gun laws to keep our streets safe? I could list at least a dozen more examples of liberal policies that make republicans seem a hell of a lot scarier than liberals. Basically any extreme media - left or right - is pushing our country deeper and deeper into the ground.

The best AC book written.. No kidding - this changed my entire perspective. Please, if you read no other book by AC, read this book. Daemonic is an amazing study into the psychology of a mob. And today, that’s very important for all of us to understand.

Come on.... It concerns me a little that this is at number 5 on the New York Times Bestseller list. I'm not heavily involved with politics, but I have several friends that are liberals and several that are conservative, and I mean some of the things she writes in this are just crazy....just fear mongering conspiracies engineered for the weak of heart about how change is bad and anyone opposing total theocracy and freedom of religion is evil. If you think about it, it's just promoting bigotry and a backwards, hateful view of others as opposed to a forward-thinking society.\\ Having read the book, I must also include, and not deny that Coulter is a good writer. She knows how to craft words to get a meaning across, and that's not a negative thing. She obviously has a large fan base and knows how to rile people up. But in the end it kind of surprises me that her fan base is large enough for this book to sell so many copies when, to me, what she wants to do is diminish agreement, compromise, change and freedom and drive barriers between groups, while pulling extreme claims out of a wealth of what I can't possibly imagine is evidence of liberalism hurting our country. As someone who read this book objectively just out of curiosity, don't buy it.

Skip this book. You don't need to read it.

A must read. Read it, loved it! Liberals love to write one star reviews because they can. Grow up, read something, turn off msnbc and think for yourself. Get off the public teat while you're at it. Freeloader

Demonic. Great book

No,we don't "Have to work together".. I have my criticisms of Coulter, but her latest book is the field manual for erudition. She deftly reveals the forces working against freedom, democracy,& peace that can ultimately bring about the demise of our country. This time around, she is not extreme-though she stills revels in her role of chief polemicist-she is spot on.For those whining that we need to "listen to both sides" & have more tolerance for so-called "different" viewpoints, this should change your mind.It is altogether apparent that we cannot reason with the unreasonable or compromise with the incorrigible. When a society has an enemy that is so readily apparent, and poses an immediate danger to its wellbeing,it would do itself a great service to dispatch it.The way to eliminate that threat it is to counter its lies with strong arguments and resolve for realistic & necessary goals. This book somewhat accomplishes the first. If we make the mistake of "listening" to those that arcanely wish to harm us, letting the Trojan Horse into the gate,so to speak, then we are doomed to misery, irrelevance, and failure. The only "civil war" we should have is one of words. And Coulter has established herself at the front lines.

Divided America. this is precisely why America cannot even begin to move forward. this book is a DISGRACE to our nation and to iTunes. the demonic thing about this book is the author. the arguments are rambling, the flow makes no sense and there is nothing to back up anything she says. If you want to listen to someone's perverted thoughts, buy the book. I STRONGLY do not recommend this book. It is incredible to me that there is a fee for this.

A must read. Outstanding!! A real eye opener about the left. Pass this stuff on to your friends and family and get involved!!!!!

Ann Coulter. I haven't read it, and I certainly won't, but I'm sure I'll hate it no matter what. Ann Coulter is bonkers!

Dreck. If you'd like to listen to something heated whistle, fire up the burner under a teapot and save a few bucks...before they're taxed away from you (because you're not rich enough to avoid paying taxes).

A wonderful example of the mob mentality in action. In her newest book, Coulter seamlessly deploys her wit and erudition to demonstrate through the book's very writing the dangers of the mob mentality and what happens when people's political views stop at the bridge of the nose. Indeed, to show why conservative pundits are often most guilty of this reverse intellectualism, a term she wants to use but doesn't, Coulter targets the straw man of "liberalism" writ large, the scary abstract monster embodied by caricatures of democratically elected politicians ruling the socialist state with an iron fists and morally bankrupt hearts. Indeed, Coulter embraces the trope of irony and deftly directs to all those who would pollute public discourse with small-minded, ill-informed, demonstrably hateful drivel. Indeed, she does this through the art of writing just such a text. We all should read this book and thank Coulter for demonstrating why politics is at it's worst when we become so sure of our own rightness and righteousness that we write off all other perspectives. Three cheers for a wonderful work of literature written by one of today's most honorable public commentators who, despite her own liberal leaning, understands that democracy only suffers when we call each other names, refuse to engage in conversation, and stop holding our beliefs with contingency. Read this book and bask in Coulter's hopeful and encouraging gift to American public discourse.

Sounds like. The Liberals/Demoncrats hate the truth. They will not ever admit to their faults even when confronted with hard evidence of them; their twisted mob mentality version of reality won't let them. On top of this, I see reviewers who have given themselves pen names along the lines Rational Thinkers. Heck, they would fall over in a coma if they actually had a single rational thought. Also in typical liberal trickery, they attempt to hide under a lie by calling themselves independent, non-political readers.

Excellent. Demonic is well researched and spot on.

Fiction dressed up. Any critical minded person would know this for what it is, extremist lunacy. It's just a new brand of tinfoil hat for conspiracy people which is evident after a few pages. Fear mongering like this could only work on people who already harbor extreme emotional instability. For them, it's vindicating. For everyone else, it's just sad.

Ann at her liberal busting best. Ann has done it again. She deftly exposes the liberal mob mentality by exposing the history of liberal mob tactics. As always, an informative and throughly entertaining treatise.

Please read the one star reviews to understand liberal thinking.... I have read all of her works and I would put this book, Demonic, in the top two of her accurate surveys of the failures of liberalism. Like white on rice, the single star reviews from left wingers come in... not one point addressed about the book, for as usual, they NEVER ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK. It is so typical of liberals to have a boldly impassioned opinion that they feel the need to share with everyone... about things they know absolutely nothing about. It takes a pathetic narcissist to have such a high opinion of one's own feelings and emotions that one can legitimately, in one's own mind, render an opinion upon that which is unknown. Liberals cannot help but pathetically prove every point Coulter makes about them. Coulter's only fallacy, in my mind, is that she incorrectly labels the mob mentality as "group think". It is more accurately... "group feel", coupled with "group tantrum". Bravo, Ann!

Demonic. Hmmm... the reviewers accusing "one-star reviewers" of being liberals who do not address Ms. Coulter's ideas in "Demonic", thereby having not read it... do not address her ideas in their "five-star" reviews. Interesting, yet not surprising. Full Disclosure: I have not read the book. I try to avoid reading propaganda from the far right and far left. What has happened to reasonable thinking?

She's RIGHT Again!. Ann is the right version of what Bill Maher could be if he actually researched his material. And wrote footnotes. And had a brain. And was actually funny. Ann's sarcasm twists until her target wants to cry, but everything she says isn't just true, it is documented and footnoted. Great read. Enjoyed every word.

Thesaurus. To all my liberal friends. Please, a little more substance to you criticisms. It really does appear from your arguments that you didn't read a word of it. Oh, and look up a synonym for "mongering". It is in all of your reviews.

Clueless about Liberals. Ann Coulter one again shows that she put's her vemonous views before reality and fact in this lastest smearfest of a book. If she dropped the nasty assumptions and flair for ingorance she would definitly see that reality has proven her wrong. One can only wonder is she really serious about what she is saying or is she doing this for the money and attention. either way this will make it's way to the bargin bin soon
