The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg Book Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This instant classic explores how we can change our lives by changing our habits.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Wall Street Journal • Financial Times

In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. Distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives that take us from the boardrooms of Procter & Gamble to the sidelines of the NFL to the front lines of the civil rights movement, Duhigg presents a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

Really helpful!. This book is amazing, it explains the way habits work, and illustrates them with clear examples based in different people. This book can be really helpful if you are trying to change or create some habits. It will help you to be a better you! Without being like some self-help books!

Good book. Understand ppl more honestly and the way throughout history how habits was formed to sell good as well

Catalyst for change. This book compelled me to get my anger and smoking under control.

Must Read. A book everyone should read

Habit. I understand my self more. I love it.

Very good. This book isn’t a magic pill to end all bad habits or create an array of good habits, but it does a fantastic job of breaking down the psychology of habits. The book was easy to read even with all the science so that even those that are intimidated by medical talk can follow along with all the examples and studies. I haven’t used the information in this book to revamp my life, but I have all the confidence that I CAN now. I’m very excited and am glad I made this purchase!

Outstanding. When i first. Saw the title i knew it was gonna be a great book. After now just reading it full. I have learned just how powerful and amazing your habits are in your life. Highly recommend this book

Habit. Awesome book

Great Framework. This book has helped identify triggers, and provides hope that change will occur.

Fascinating read. We learn so much about ourselves, our bodies, our minds, our habits in books this informative! The test subjects in the stories were dissected, detailed and written out in simplest of fashion. Gotta read again soon....Next time around I’ll be sure to take some notes.

Must read. I had to read this in a college class and I loved this book so much. It taught me alot about habits and how they work. I was able to stop biting my finger nails after applying tips mentioned in the book. I’d highly highly recommend this book.

Bravo !. Such an amazing insight , beautiful, astonishing , A MUST READ !

Not bad, but not great.. Lots of interesting stories that exhibit behavioral patterns, but I think the author could have tied it all together much better. Also, I bought this book thinking it would be a really good learning tool on how to break my bad habits. It lacks anything useful as far as guidance. Although it was a decent read, I don't think the author provided anything better than what someone who did the same research could put together.

A fascinating journey of self exploration. The book creates a fascinating understanding of our human nature.

Wow. I loved the break down of habits in each chapter. This is a great book I think everyone should read!

It is good but there are better. It’s amazingly easy to understand how to get rid of bad habits , but for me it was too bored sometimes , it’s my opinion. ( some might disagree) for the price , you could read better books with the same Perspective.

Easy to read.. I discovered this book by my book club at UTRGV. It has been a delight reading this book. I feel that I can change some habits now by identifying cues. I believe that if you change one thing in your life, it can have resonance in your life. Good book. No regrets spending time reading this book.

Not what I expected. This book is about the study and research of habits versus practical applications for everyday life. I was hoping for insight as to how I could increase my productivity. The stories are quite long and probably more tolerable if you are reading instead of listening. The first example lasted about 40 minutes. The preview of the book was the best part.

Addictive on multiple dimensions. It’s been along time since I completely finished a book. With the most books you gain the basic idea within the first couple chapters, and the rest is just an expose and a bunch of examples of that core idea. In this book, however, the idea is continuously developed throughout the book, with addictive stories, written in an insanely engaging and compelling way. The book is itself an example of what it preaches. A habit loop. The cue is a story about someone with a problem, you then read the section, and gain the reward of understanding how it was fixed, and how that solution continues the narrative of the story. Fascinating read.

Perverted Book Trying To Scream About Sex. This author is a repressed sex addict who can’t handle his own verbiage to create coherent prose which does not piss off readers from being so close to him verbally raping them.

Amazing. Worth the time!

An excellent book.. Good reading, but most importantly: useful. Bravo!

Eye opening. Loved it. It made sense to me.

Recommended for Change Management. Enjoyable read! Includes details about change management that can be applied to a variety of organizations.

Great read. One of the best books I read following the principles by Ray Dalio. It has given great insights into understanding what goes under forming breaking and changing habits. If you are struggling to make those changes in life and struck with figuring out the how, I strongly suggest this book.

Great!. Very great, educational, and quick read. Fascinating real world stories and examples. Very helpful for business and personal.

This Book CHANGED MY LIFE. This book truly opened my eyes to some of my greatest faults which were habits that formed without my knowing. It's showed me some of my terrible eating habits like late night snaking and how little habits like how I place my phone when I got to bed can change how I wake up and my energy level. This book can help you take control of your life and prevent mindless walking through life because of ones habits. I truest think everyone should read this book at least once.

Very helpful. Loved it! I liked the fact that it scientifically proves that habits can be developed for he good, and gives you a simple method for establishing good ones.

Will Change Lives. The examples that this book took me through were extraordinary. I learned so much about habits, what they are, how they help, and how to change them. I am an aspiring psychologist, and I use what I’ve learned from this book in so many of my teachings, for most things we do are habits. Truly taught me so much, I need to get it for my bookshelf!

Look at your habits, change your life. I've already started recommending this book to family and friends, as it is not only interesting to read and well written, it is the first book I've read which made me feel that I can truly change my life for the better by stopping and thinking about what I do and why I do it. It made me realize the power is in my hands to achieve my goals.

Very interesting read!. I liked that it was written for everyone to understand. Some books like this use big fancy words or complex subjects, but this was developed nicely! I really enjoyed it

A great book. This book is awesome really and I love it so much, it deserves to be read

Great Book. This is a very well written book. It is also full of insightful assertions, backed up with excellent research. I learned a lot, and really enjoyed the read!

Good read!. The book is full of examples of habits, how they impact lives, and people within the scenarios have they've manage to adjust to new behaviors or change them. In that sense the book is motivational. It's a good read to begging highlighting some habits that may impacting a life in a negative way and figure out ways to Change and lead to others books to read for better self awareness and determine personal changes.

Worth it. Obviously, I can only speak on my own behalf. This book changed my life.

One of the most important books I've ever read. The material is potentially life altering, and the author explains in completely accessible ways and in the context of some terrific stories. This is one of the most important books I've read, and if there is anything about your life that you'd like to change, this book could be of great help.

:). Really informative book loved it

Excellent. Interesting, helpful, and fills a void in my journey. I loved the examples in the second half - great listening.

Interesting and informative.. I enjoyed reading and learning the power of habits. Well written, informative, and interesting. This book will change the way you look at your habits, why you do what you do, and give you the knowledge to make changes for the better.

I had it for free but bought it anyway 😜. I got this book for free but I found it very helpful that I wanted to pay for however made it. Thanks!!!!!!!!

The Power Of Habit. I love this book! It’s powerful in the since of we could all find habits we all have good/bad, like/dislike, easy/hard, or harmless/painful and what this book does is give light on our everyday habits some we might already know about some not. This book also provides ways to bring a habit into our life or change existing one. Worth a read for everyone for sure.

Very insightful.. Great vignettes and anecdotes that demonstrate the power of habit and the optimism that we can change.

An Excellent Read!. I appreciated the research done to write this book. There were lots of concepts to learn from & anyone reading this book will have something to take away from it. Made me analyze what my habits are & implement a plan for change.

Helpful Book. This book is very helpful in learning how habits develop and how to change the habits you want to change. It provides the way to develop new more productive habits.

Everyone should have to read this book.. I am completely astonished by what I have learned about myself, and the human brain from reading this. I really think that no matter what field, or walk of life that you are in this book will put you on a path you didn’t even realize you needed.

Life changing!. Wow what an amazing book. I would look forward every day to read this book. It's full of examples on how habitual we live our lives. It points out that ultimately we have the ability to create new habits so we can have new outcomes in the life we want to live. Definitely worth the money!

Beautiful Book. If you like this book and started reading it too change your own life I’d recommend Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg

Motivational and Inspiring!. This was a very great read with tons of facts inside. It gives you a whole other perspective and facts on how to change ones lifestyle by one simple habit. High recommend for anyone trying to change their life in any way.

Much needed!. This book was amazing. The author does an amazing job of detailing how the human brain works in relation to habit formation; and even gives us a “solution” for reshaping bad habits.

Amazing!!. One of the best books I’ve ever real. Literally changed my perspective on life.
