Chasing Midnight by Randy Wayne White Book Summary

In the new novel from New York Times bestselling author Randy Wayne White, Doc Ford is the only hope for an island of hostages.

On one of Florida’s private islands, a notorious Russian black marketer is hosting a reception. Doc Ford only wanted to get an underwater look at the billionaire’s yacht. But when he surfaces, he gets a look at something he’d rather not see.

A group of violent, armed men have taken control of the island, their true identity unknown. Whatever the motive, they threaten to kill the hostages one by one unless their demands are met—after which they might kill everyone anyway.

Communications from the island have been cut off, and Ford knows he has to act. Luckily, the militants do not know Ford’s capabilities, or that he is still on the loose. But that situation won’t last for long…and the clock is ticking.

Good one. Very fast paced story. Hard to put down

This was the worst. Randy Wayne White book I ever read!! I have been an enthusiastic reader of White's books since he began writing Doc Ford novel. They have always been thrill packed page turners. Until now. This book made no sense to me; the story did not at all resonate with me. Don't waste your time or money on this one!!!

Another great Doc Ford adventure. Keeping true to his other books, Randy Wayne-White's Doc Ford had another adventure that kept me reading. I love the way that he keeps the human factor in everything Ford tries to do. Not making him a super hero keeps it real.

Worst white book ever. I think skipped pages at a time. I've loved the series but even reading this one in Captiva could not make this one any better. Awful

Chasing Midnight. Who wrote this really? Boring, long winded and implausible to the extreme. I have enjoyed all the prior Doc Ford books, but had to force myself to finish this one.

Chasing Midnight. This, so far, is my least favorite of the Doc Ford series. The lack of character development in the beginning plus the clumsy switching from present to past left me confused. I will continue to be an avid reader, but this book was a disappointment.

Not his usual standard. After reading all earlier Doc Ford books and enjoying the sharp and clear, if quirky, storylines, I found this one, like the one which preceeded it, dull, and padded out with details not really important. I would not recommend this book .

Chasing midnight. I used to love these characters but now they are empty outlines of once engaging personalities. I remember crying when I thought that Tomlinson had died and now In this book and the last he no longer seems alive. Rambling description of the mechanics of guns and other weapons are just page fillers. The spirit of Doc Ford and his buddy Tomlinson are gone. I will mourn them but no longer read these books.

Chasing Midnight. The location is primarily confined to one geographic locale and lacks the usual breadth of geographic experience portrayed by Randy White. Some spots are slow as opposed to White's normal fast paced intrigue.

Chasing Midnight. I enjoyed this book tremendously as I have every one of Mr. Whites novels. I have enjoyed fishing for the last 20 years in Pine Island Sound so I enjoy his references to the area and the accuracy with which he writes about the area, the fishery and the scientific as well as military components of the story. I have read every book Mr. White has written in order since he began writing and I must say I left this novel less impressed than any other previous piece. This book felt like Mr. White might have rested on his laurels a bit. The setting was local and there were no exotic locals which I enjoy, the characters were not very developed and at times were boring. Without sounding overly critical, because I do truly enjoy Mr. Whites novels, I felt like this effort was lazy. All in all I felt like it was not worth the price of the book.

OMG! Horrible Writing. Rare is it that the author is so inept that you end up rooting for the demise of the good guys. This author not only fails in telling a coherent, believable story, but fails in basic logic. This author wins hands down the Rube Goldberg Plot Development Prize

Tough to rate since missing entire xhapters. Why is it so hard for apple to deliver the entire book? Missing at least 4 chapters with message "error on this page"

Chasing Midnight (Doc Ford #19). Another excellent Randy Wayne White book. He transports you to southern Florida and perfectly illustrates the area, while providing his reader with several enjoyable hours of action-packed reading entertainment. He can't write them fast enough for me. Love all 19.

Getting away from his roots.... ...& reality. Sigh, it sure seems like RWW is reaching. He's straying too far a field from his MacDonald-ian influence. It seems to me that the additional effort required to weave in complexity, depth of character, emotional/philosophical turmoil & any semblance of plausibility has given way to bland, crank 'em out commercialism. Sigh (again), sad because his early works were truly worthy of heir apparent status. Way to drop the JDMac reins in favor of a style more closely resembling Stan Lee.

Chasing Midnight. I wasn't too impressed with this Doc Ford novel and I have read most of them. Too long-winded. Not much in the way of action. Randy had written much better!!

So disappointed!!. I've loved this character for years, but as I slogged through this rambling narrative, I realized that he'd disappeared, morphed into something that I no longer recognized or was a figment of a faulty memory. I hope that it is not the latter. Long before I put this down, I had stopped caring what would happen and stopped caring about him. Sad

Chasing Midnight. Randy Wayne White penned a thrill ride. Character development was good with a few unexpected surprises. Nice job RWW!

Wast of money. This was my first and last Randy Wayne White book. Very thin on believability with unremarkable characters, and too many pages of uninteresting detail used to try and hide a very weak plot. It felt as if it was written to meet a publishing commitment rather than because the writer enjoyed it. In this genre are other writers (Flynn, Thor, Baldacci and Child to name a few) that produce hard to put down books, this was hard to finish.

Over the Top. I've liked a number of White's Doc Ford books, but the plot, the characters and the action in this one are ridiculous! Everything about the book is so over the top that it could be a parody if there was some humor in it (there isn't). Don't waste your time or money on it.

Chasing Midnight. First of his books I have ever disliked. Lousy story, too many stupid characters who make no sense, too dark and wordy...Gave up with 252 words to go. Should demand a refund, inane story line. Wish he would go back to original story/plot lines.

Chasing midnight. Randy Wayne White is a favorite author who has phoned in his last 2 novels. Disappointing effort.

Rambling, hard to finish. I usually enjoy the Doc Ford novels, but this one was difficult to avoid walking away from. Rambling plot that constantly wanders down irrelevant paths, combined with a bumbling uncharacteristic Ford made this a complete waste of time.
