The Little Friend by Donna Tartt Book Summary

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Goldfinch comes an utterly riveting novel set in Mississippi of childhood, innocence, and evil. •  “Destined to become a special kind of classic.” —The New York Times Book Review

The setting is Alexandria, Mississippi, where one Mother’s Day a little boy named Robin Cleve Dufresnes was found hanging from a tree in his parents’ yard. Twelve years later Robin’s murder is still unsolved and his family remains devastated. So it is that Robin’s sister Harriet—unnervingly bright, insufferably determined, and unduly influenced by the fiction of Kipling and Robert Louis Stevenson--sets out to unmask his killer. Aided only by her worshipful friend Hely, Harriet crosses her town’s rigid lines of race and caste and burrows deep into her family’s history of loss. Filled with hairpin turns of plot and “a bustling, ridiculous humanity worthy of Dickens” (The New York Times Book Review), The Little Friend is a work of myriad enchantments by a writer of prodigious talent.

So many unanswered questions..... I was very disappointed in this book...it leaves you with a bunch of unanswered questions.

I love this book.. One of my all time favorites.

Boo!!. I LOVE The Secret History! It was one of my favorite books and I loved The Goldfinch too. Perhaps that is a hard standard to live up to. I had to make myself finish this and seriously couldn't believe the ending. Just meh. Bleh. Like...really??? How many hours do I not get back? I don't want to spoil it but there are just so many unanswered questions and unresolved issues...but worse, is by the time you've meandered through the denseness of the excessive nonessentials...it's hard to care any longer; you're just happy to be done.

The Little Friend. Unsatisfying ending. The plot meandered as though the author followed tangents as the story progressed. There are probably a few books in here if only one main plot had been followed throughout. Interesting characters.

Little Friend. Great book! Right up there with the Goldfinch

Disappointing!. Donna Tartt is my favorite author. I read The Goldfinch and The Secret History before I read The Little Friend and I was so disappointed in it. I got about a third of the way through when I was just so bored I couldn't read anymore. I picked it up again a few weeks later and draaaaaged through it to the end. It constantly FEELS like something is about to happen, but it never does. Tartt goes into so much detail about trivial things I figured it must MEAN something. But it never did. This book just wasn't ABOUT anything. And there's NO RESOLUTION. It dribbled on with no ending. The opposite is true of her other books. The Secret History is my all time favorite book. I recommend it over The Little Friend. I was left feeling very frustrated, like I had my wallet stolen after I just cashed my check.

Terrible.. Horrible waste of time.

The little friend. Ending sucked😨not a good read

Donna tartt. I read all three of Ms. Tartt's novels and The Little Friend was my favorite.
