The Moonlit Mind (Novella) by Dean Koontz Book Summary

In this chilling original stand-alone novella, available exclusively as an eBook, #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz offers a taste of what’s to come in his new novel, 77 Shadow Street, with a mesmerizing tale of a homeless boy at large in a city fraught with threats . . . both human and otherwise.

Twelve-year-old Crispin has lived on the streets since he was nine—with only his wits and his daring to sustain him, and only his silent dog, Harley, to call his friend. He is always on the move, never lingering in any one place long enough to risk being discovered. Still, there are certain places he returns to. In the midst of the tumultuous city, they are havens of solitude: like the hushed environs of St. Mary Salome Cemetery, a place where Crispin can feel at peace—safe, at least for a while, from the fearsome memories that plague him . . . and seep into his darkest nightmares. But not only his dreams are haunted. The city he roams with Harley has secrets and mysteries, things unexplainable and maybe unimaginable. Crispin has seen ghosts in the dead of night, and sensed dimensions beyond reason in broad daylight. Hints of things disturbing and strange nibble at the edges of his existence, even as dangers wholly natural and earthbound cast their shadows across his path. Alone, drifting, and scavenging to survive is no life for a boy. But the life Crispin has left behind, and is still running scared from, is an unspeakable alternative . . . that may yet catch up with him.

There is more to this world, and its darkest corners yet to be encountered, in this eBook’s special bonus: a spine-tingling excerpt from Dean Koontz’s forthcoming novel, 77 Shadow Street.

Koontz is BACK,!. I have avoided Koontz's last how ever many homogenized, formulaic and sometimes downright boring books. However, Moonlit Mind kept me enthralled and wanting more. Excellent characters, tantalizingly evil and perfectly creepy. This novella proves, happily, that Dean Koontz's is using his writing skills and imagination again!

Astonished. I could not put this one down. I finished it in less than two days and cannot wait for the next one!

Moonlit Mind. I LOVE Dean Koontz, and this was probably one of my favorite stories that he has written... Once I picked it up I couldn't put I down... I even had dreams about it!! The only disappointing thing was that he didn't write more... I would have loved if it would have been a novel! It would be awesome if he would create some sequels, or even prequels to this story! I would wait in line for them to be released!!

Another great one by dean koontz. Again, Koontz is brilliant. Even tho it was a Novella, it was a full story in every respect. I read other comments, all good, that indicated it should have been longer. Well longer would also have been good but really this was a complete story, well written, totally mesmerizing, well worth the price of admission.

The Moonlit Mind. Mr. Koontz I thoroughly enjoy this novella especially in light of today’s politic atmosphere! I have read many of your books throughout my life. There is one, that I so enjoyed I read it twice, however, since I experienced two ruptured aneurism I have difficulty with recall. The story was of a young boy whose parents a killed by an alien force & he manages to escape. He is adopted by a dog companion and meets many strange & exotic friends. His mission, he figures out is to kill off the alien’s ( I think in a particular order ). Can you kindly let me know the title of that book, as I would love to read it again. I am looking forward to reading 77 Shadow Lane. Also as a dog lover & owner throughout my 70 years of life, reading about your beloved dog, was an honor. My beloved son-in-Law, married to my youngest daughter, retired after serving 20 years in the USMC last May. He entered the USMC right after graduating HS as a NCO. He was deployed during the first invasion of Iraq, he survived non-hodgekins lymphoma stage 4. Later he was deployed to six months in Afghanistan and upon return his commander in officer recommended him for Officer Training School at Quanitco which was a six month ordeal. He said it was like Parris Island all over again. During his 20 years he earned his college diploma and continued to earn his MS degree both from Villanova! He & my daughter are also the parents of 5 children, 4 boys & one girl, my daughter received a baby, Olde English Bulldog named Yankee before his deployment to Iraq. They were married upon his return home. My daughter had created a whole language with Yankee that he totally understood. Right after the birth of their 4th son, Yankee suddenly died. It was a good thing that I was there. They now have 3 dogs, a lizard and a turtle. Because of my son-in-law’s horrific experiences in Irag ( was awarded 2 Purple Hearts and two other distinguished awards for his service in Iraq. Right before retirement his mom, a lovely woman passed away from some odd disease. My son-in-law is working for Penn Medicine and now all of my grandkids live near me! The only reason I’m telling you this is because of the love of your loving Gertie who you also wrote about her! My son-in-Law has experienced PTSD dissociative experience, he and the whole family attends therapy and it has been suggested that he gets a trained emotional support champanion service dog. The therapists don’t believe that he will ever experience as a severe a PTSD experience again but a service dog trained to detect extreme or erratic behavior would keep him from doing anything that could cause him harm. The book of yours that I mentioned whose title I can’t recall somehow popped into my thoughts because I think that book is symbolic of what my son-in-Law experienced, I think you would understand. Thank you for listening! By the way the novella reviewed above is 5 ⭐️’s! And I look forward to 77 Shadow Lane. God continue to bless you & your loved ones and inspiring you with your talented storytelling!
