The Two Towers Book Summary

The second volume in J.R.R. Tolkien's epic adventure, THE LORD OF THE RINGS.

Frodo and his Companions of the Ring have been beset by danger during their quest to prevent the Ruling Ring from falling into the hands of the Dark Lord by destroying it in the Cracks of Doom. They have lost the wizard, Gandalf, in a battle in the Mines of Moria. And Boromir, seduced by the power of the Ring, tried to seize it by force. While Frodo and Sam made their escape, the rest of the company was attacked by Orcs. Now they continue the journey alone down the great River Anduin—alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.

This, the middle book of the trilogy is the shortest of the three but is key in setting up the final blockbuster. Dark, but funny lines abound.

This is probably the 15th time I've read the Trilogy. There was a period of about 12 years, 25 years ago, that I read it once per year. It still holds up as a magnificent piece of storytelling and writing. I just completed, with the usual relief, book two, whose last long portion is devoted to the slog of Frodo and Sam up the the doors of Mordor. Still a page turner even after all these years. The movies get the visuals right, but not the nuance and poetry. Glad to be back in the 'real' world of Middle Earth.

Ok call me a nerd but this is the greatest series ever. I'm going off topic but you should definitely read The Hobbit before attempting the Lord of the Rings. This book has a great plot and has some pretty hilarious lines. A must read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
