Two Graves by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child Book Summary

Join Agent Pendergast in the heart of the South American jungle as he investigates a string of murders that lead him to his wife's kidnappers -- and spark memories that may haunt him forever.
After his wife, Helen, is brazenly abducted before his eyes, Special Agent Pendergast furiously pursues the kidnappers, chasing them across the country and into Mexico. But then, things go terribly, tragically wrong; the kidnappers escape; and a shattered Pendergast retreats to his New York apartment and shuts out the world.

But when a string of bizarre murders erupts across several Manhattan hotels-perpetrated by a boy who seems to have an almost psychic ability to elude capture-NYPD Lieutenant D'Agosta asks his friend Pendergast for help. Reluctant at first, Pendergast soon discovers that the killings are a message from his wife's kidnappers. But why a message? And what does it mean?

When the kidnappers strike again at those closest to Pendergast, the FBI agent, filled anew with vengeful fury, sets out to track down and destroy those responsible. His journey takes him deep into the trackless forests of South America, where he ultimately finds himself face to face with an old evil that-rather than having been eradicated-is stirring anew... and with potentially world-altering consequences.

Confucius once said: "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, first dig two graves." Pendergast is about to learn the hard way just how true those words still ring.

Way below par. Even adjusting for the formula of a Preston/Child action mystery this one is way below an acceptable read. It is long on disbelief and stilted dialogue and short on character development and plot. Perhaps it got a whole lot better--or just stopped being so boring and bad-- before I stopped working at being a reader, but I doubt it. It really was a struggle to go 100 pages deep in this one.

Pendergast is back. This is a book I recommend to all Pendergast fans, it has all kinds of twists and turns and is the authors best writing in a while.

Yet another great book by the team. Amazing, get's started a bit slow but by the end you're in an great story and I love being able to look up all the worlds using the iBook dictionary that I don't know!

Good book, but THIRD in trilogy. The book itself is well written and has an interesting plot, but I always had a feeling like there was a backstory I wasn't privy to. Then, when I had finished and read a note from the authors - the answer was revealed to me. This was the THIRD story in a trilogy. As opposed to warning the consumer ahead of time, and possibly getting three sales - now, I've just finished a book feeling less-than-satisfied. No knock on the authors here - I'd give the book 4.5 stars if I'd had the backstory from the previous two books. But I certainly can't go back and read them now that I know how the trilogy concludes! Whoever describes/composes the descriptions in the iBook store should have added the fact that this was a trilogy to the description. Anyways, just wanted to save someone else the trouble - go back and buy the first two books before reading this one. I wish there had been some kind of warning for me. Sincerely, A somewhat frustrated consumer

Good. This book sounds very good. As soon as I get the chance I will buy this book in the book store app. Awesome Kaity Be

Much better than Cold Vengeance. I have read every single book by these authors and particularly enjoy their Agent Pendergast novels. This book seemed to justify the weak style, anemic plot, and abrupt ending of Cold Vengeance. I really wish they had released both books together as a really long novel or just had a better editor. It was not as good as Brimstone or Book of the Dead but much better than Wheel of Darkness or Cold Vengeance. TL:DR This was a good Agent Pendergast book, if you're even a slight fan you should get it.

Two Graves. I love fast- paced well written novels. This was the third of the series and although each can stand alone, this one wrapped up the ends leaving only one question dangling. A great read.

Preposterous! I loved it.. Completely unbelievable, why couldn't I put it down?

Two Graves. Main plot is silly; sub plots are sillier! Aloysius deserves better than this.

Two Graves. Much too narrative to point of boring. Can skip pages and not miss a thing.

Two Graves. Entertaining, but an unrealistic.

Another Solid Book..... Pendergast is among my favorite series (along with Lincoln Rhyme and Harry Bosch). His odd mannerisms and unorthodox style are fun to read, but over the last few books he's been "off" what with the storyline involving his wife, Helen. Preston and Child have this character down well and his background has been fleshed out nicely over the last few titles, even though the books have been slightly different than "Brimstone", "The Relic" and "The Cabinet of Curiosities". I look forward to Pendergast getting back to the cases we know from the earlier novels, but am glad to know his character better now.

Two Graves. It was an extremely lucky day that I first discovered the tales of Aloysious Pendergast

Awesome!. I'm sure this is going to be an amazing book! I've already read so many of their books as well as the the the first 2 books of this trilogy. Pendergast is such an amazing character. I love him. He's so intriguing. So even though I have not read this yet I am going to give this a ten out ten just for sake of it. If you haven't read anything by them before then I highly recommend it. Especially if you are a fan of thrillers and horrors. Just do it!!!!

Extraction. Excellent book as all their others have been. Hope there is more to come with Pendergast and his sons
