Simply Outstanding. This was my first look at Apple's new interactive book creation software product. I am 'blown away' by this implementation. Warmest regards. Phil Van Kersen

Buy this book! One of the most important lessions you. I am a regular museum-goer, and I had no idea that I was not getting the most out of my museum-going experience. Thanks to Cleaning Mona Lisa; I learned some very important lessons. For instance, I never thought of the negative effects of extranneous glare in museums, and Lee Sandstead has painstakenly documented many painting that are lit corrrectly versus not lit correctly. This is invaluable to me. If you are the person who stands in front of art scratching your head--then this is for you. If you are a person who wants to get even more out of museum-going experience, this book is for you. If you are an educator, then this book is for you. I just had no idea that learning to appreciate art--is an art in and of itself! Thank you Lee Sandstead.

Mona Lisa. Short but sweet. This book provides an insight into how all students will soon be learning. Sanstead's passion for art and seeing the Mona Lisa in her "as close to original state" is refreshing.

Wonderful - hard to read text on older eyes.... Lee, This is a wonderful start and you should be proud. How do I adjust the text size larger for my over-60 eyes?

Misleading Title. The title is completely misleading. This book does discuss and demonstrate restoration of masterpieces. However, Mona Lisa is NOT one of them. I would have loved to have seen what Mona Lisa would have looked like after the author applied the same digital "cleaning/restoring" technique as described in the book.

His enthusiasm is contagious!. Art of this era isn't really my thing, but the examples were engaging, and the images fascinating. Even if it's more HDTV than art, it's well worth exploring. The videos and interactive media use the iBook format to great advantage.

Finally!. Finally! A fun art conservation book! I just finished this and, as an aspiring art conservator, I enjoyed it very much. I'll be starting my college art history classes this fall....I'm glad I read this first! It definitely makes you look at paintings in a whole new light. I look forward to more (hopefully!) from this author.

Illuminating!. What a shame that many of the great works we can see today are not as the artists intended for them to be seen! Until reading this I never realized to what an extent this is true. But how exciting that we live in a day and age where this tragedy is being recognized, and with the passion and enthusiasm of people like Lee Stanstead, being remedied.

Art lover or not ?. I love art and have had the plassure of seeing many works of art but even if you are just a person starting to look at and love art this Book is for you you will learn so much about art. Great Buy for the money I have read it and Now appreciate the art more Thank you.

love the interactivity. As a teacher, I showed this iBook to my students before a museum trip, and in a few minutes time, I projected the book on the classroom's lcd projector. The students were astounded and added greatly to the museum experience. Although it says the iBooks is for upper grades, I showed this to my 5th grade class to great aplumb. I have been teaching art for several years, and I did not know the lessons in this book. For $2.99, this will greatly enhance any museum experience. Highly recommended.

Well done!. Great work with this one! Simple, great visuals and easy text. Overall, a quick, fun adventure through the subject of cleaning art works. Thanks!

Thank you, Lee Sandstead. Thank you so much. Love this man. I had never knew that there was skill involved in looking at a classical oil painting, and come to think of it, my art history professor in school said none of this. In fact, my professor told me that Mona Lisa didn't have eyebrows because that was the fashion of the day. I guess I slept a lot through those classes though... You won't sleep through this book! Thanks for giving me new opportunities to appreciate art.

a conservator recommends. As a conservator, I would recommend this to my clients and undergraduate students. The ability to see before-and-after shots of real-world examples is priceless. In fact, I showed this book to some of my students the other day, and they enjoyed the experience.

Fabulous use of Technology. This eBook turned me onto the power of iBook Author's multi-touch capabilities. How appropriate to utilize this creative format when discussing an art topic. Kudos to the author and publisher. Great job.

Lively, informative, fresh. This iBook exploits the unique capabilities of the iPad medium to reinforce its thesis: that oil paintings deteriorate, especially if they have been lacquered. Drawing from his encyclopedic knowledge of the subject, the author weaves a compelling story how the most famous portrait in the world has be even tragically mutilated by time and inept attempts to restore it. I learned much and look forward to future adventures in learning.

A real-world DaVinci Code. I had the recent pleasure of reading an advance copy of art historian Lee Sandstead's new iBook "Cleaning Mona Lisa."The best part of Sandstead's book (in addition to its excellent exploitation of the iBook format and stunning photograpic imagery) is how Sandstead systematically overturns an oft-repeated myth in art history—that Leonardo DaVinci painted the Mona Lisa as we see it today, saturated with yellow, no eyebrows on the face, and seeming rubber gloves on the hands (I heard this myth myself when I studied art history in college). Instead of myth, Sandstead delivers a real-world DaVinci Code, showing his readers what the Mona Lisa really means, both to the people of DaVinci's era, and to us today. Don't miss it.

A short burst of awesome. Love the images in this iBook. And it really shows the potential of the interactive book format. But mostly I love looking at the images and having interesting things to hear and read about them literally at my fingertips. And for only $2.99? 5 stars. Can't wait to see more iBooks from Lee Sandstead.

Art history for the layman. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read it while at an airport, and I could not put it down. This is not art history as your grandfather learned. It is fresh, simple and the author seems to think that art history is important to the layman--not just to his fellow ph.d.s I am looking more from this author, and I hope that he will delve into larger subjects. Oh, and I showed this to my six-year-old daughter, and now, she wants to go to a museum. How about that? Worth the $2.99.

Very interesting. Very interesting, not too heavy and not too light in terms of tone. Engaging and well presented. There is actually a fair amount of interactive content (video etc) but it is perhaps too light on good old written content. The entire book is only 20 pages long - while it is a very well presented and interesting 20 pages, it's a shame it's not 200 pages. If this was in a bookshop it would be too short to sell. I'm looking forward to the days when nice thick well written and lavishly illustrated coffee table books can be bought as e-books but we are not there yet. Then again, at around $5 this book is reasonably priced for what you get (a bit over an hour of reading and exploring the interactive features).

Somewhat of a disapointment. Over priced and under resourced. The small illustrations do not size up so any explanations using them as examples are a waste and a fustration. I,m sure the author has much knowledge but this is pure graduate work and then not necessarily a pass.
