Become a Mac Power User for the price of a Starbucks Coffee.. Attorney David Sparks (along with equally geeky Katie Floyd) host the useful and very popular "Mac Power Users" podcast. David's books are are logical, sensible and well organized. The second of his "Macsparky Field Guide" series, this multimedia work is no exception. It consists of a collection of tips for users of the latest iteration of OS X, Mountain Lion. What really makes this gem stand out are the short screencasts narrated by David or his co-author Brett Terpstra. We read about a tip or shortcut that interests us, click on the play button and voilà: the magic is played out on a virtual Mac display in front of our eyes. A great demonstration of the power of this exciting new media. Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned Mac power user, this is one you won't want to miss.

Not Much New. As a new Mac user I loved MacSparky's Paperless book and immediately bought this with much anticipation. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed. A number of the tips are of questionable value, while others are quite common and widely known.

This book is an amazing investment!. Its amazing, I payed $4,000 for this laptop and it was great, but only $7 more and it has at least doubled in functionality...Never realized I was the limiting factor. I would, have, and will recommend this book to everyone I run across with a Mac. If you have ever made an impulse buy you should pick this up, its an impulse buy that you will never regret! The build of this book gives you both literary content as well as beautifully complimenting and well performed supporting videos of the exact method. Don't think about it, get it. Thanks!

Super Ninja Tricks!. What a fantastic collection of tips and tricks! I learned something new on every page, and I'm a pretty seasoned Mac user. Love the mix of reading and screencasts. It's a very engaging way to present information. Super clear and easy to follow along. I only wish there was more! :) Thanks for another great book, David and Brett!

Helpful. I had read the one review and bought the book. This book has a lot of information and so worth the price. THANKS to the author as I really like this book.

The next step in books. David's field notes books are absolutely the next phase in digital book publishing. The iBook format allows so much rich content and David takes advantage of this, turning the words into an interactive experience.

Great book for any level user. I've become an avid MPU listener over the past few months - even digging back deep into the archives - and I eagerly await every screencast that Macsparky posts to Vimeo (if you haven't seen them, you definitely need to check them out). The mail management tips alone are worth the price of admission. I fancy myself something of a mac expert and so was initially hesitant to make the purchase, but this book has helped me raise my game. And the iBooks platform is the ideal platform to showcase this type of content. Thanks David and Brett!

Well worth it. I’m a long time Mac user and IT professional and I learned some new things from this excellent book. The format works extremely well.

Excellent stuff. Like the other reviewers I considered myself something of a power user already (and a regular MPU podcast listener) - but there are a lot of tips here that were news to me. I figured that frankly for the price, even a small handful of new ideas would be value for money, and for me there are a lot more than that. If you're Merlin Mann, this book is probably not for you. If not (especially if you don't know who Merlin Mann is) then it probably is. One suggestion I have for the authors would be for future editions to note against each tip, the other versions of OS X with which that tip works (although that may be difficult since some of them - e.g. fine-tuning volume - probably worked with, say, Snow Leopard, were withdrawn with Lion, and are back in Mountain Lion). And in any case, it would be parsimonious in the extreme to dock a star for that in a book clearly targeted at Mountain Lion. So...five stars, excellent work David and Brett.

Most practicable!. Learned lots of little things I didn't know or notice before (just like previous reviewers, I consider myself a power Mac user :). The book has also helped me alleviate some of old annoyances using the Mac. Highly recommended.

Brilliant!. I've been using Mac's for many years now, and I was amazed how little I actually know! Would love to sit down and be taught by these guys, really impressive.

Worth the asking price for ten tips let alone 60. I'm a seasoned Mac professional, not an hour goes by without me picking up my MacBook and I learned a hell of a lot from this book, enough to save me hours and save me even more stress and headspace - recommend it to anyone with a mac.

Love it. I've read through his book three times now and I love it. It's full of really useful hints and tips. Not just interesting, but useful.

Great Book. David and Brett have hit a good formula for providing secrets into Mountain Lion. The Secret handbook that didn't come with the computer. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to go beyond turning a computer on for email and web browsing. there is so much more your mac can do for you, and this book will wet your apetite. The Model Warrior

Quality!. Yet another great product from the master of writing technical books that don't lecture you and bore you rigid with needless details. The idea of mixing screencasts with text is not new but it is done masterfully here and is bund to become a new standard for technical publications. David Sparks is Mr Self Deprecation himself which is what makes him so easy to listen. His voice comes out loud and clear in his writing and you almost want his voice to be immortalised as a Siri voice or even a Mac Dictation voice. Great work Bret and David. Look forward to new titles to come.
