Good...but. I really liked the first half of the book. It is very thought provoking, much like his other books. It made me re-think some things. His analysis on teaching and education was very intriguing. But the book seemed to get stuck in the mud during the discussions about civil rights and about the fighting in Ireland. The stories bounced back and forth, and were more drawn out than the earlier, more succinct discussions. It was harder to follow, the conclusions seemed less impact full, and frankly, I started to get bored. I was somewhat disappointed with this one.

Predictable and axiomatic. Not very insightful. I've only read about three or four of his books and this is the most disappointing thus far. Like many authors with liberal leanings, he's long on sentimentalism and short on logic, solid data or unpleasant truths.

Enjoyable read. I'm a tough grader. For those who like Gladwell's style of writing this book won't disappoint. The basic thesis is supported by a series of anecdotes and studies that make for good reading. The third section of the book ("The Limits of Power") though seems forced in and is shaky.

Good read!. This was my first Gladwell book after hearing about them for the past few years. I will definitely read the rest of his collection. David and Goliath looks at the underdog story from am alternative and inspiring view--that maybe there is no such thing. He uses great historical examples from multiple disciplines to argue his point. Would definitely recommend to everyone!

A unique perspective.... This book makes me think about things in a new way, simple as that. Mr. Gladwell is such a talented communicator and he has, again, chosen to present information about interesting people. Truly, any curious and open-minded person will find this book fascinating.

Will change how you look at things and refresh on history. Easy to read, with interesting historical facts that will without a doubt, change the way you look at “competition” that involves an “underdog”.

Great Book on Underdogs!. In life, we sometimes face adversaries and situations as the precarious underdog. This book illustrates the greatest underdog victories in history, and emphasizes how being the underdog is, more times than not, a good thing. This book goes on to teach how to remain extremely humble and to remain intelligent and laser focused during the most intense challenges. In many cases, the calm underdog prevails against the favorite that is arrogant and makes their power and reputation their weakness. Great read for all walks of life.

Strengths and Weaknesses. Gladwell possesses a beautiful writing style that can pull you into any topic in a way, such that you never want to pull away. He applies that skill masterfully here in assessing the true nature of Strengths and Weaknesses. Navigating through different periods of history he dissects Paper Champions (Goliaths) who lost to or at least could not dissuade the Davids on the other side of the valley. Using the narratives of the overlooked stories of the voices history often forgets, Gladwell demonstrates three key phenomena that demonstrate how we often over estimate strengths and focus in too greatly on apparent weaknesses. Without giving away spoilers, the three concepts I found most fascinating in this book were most importantly, our inability to see past advantageous and disadvantages on the surface. The tale of David and Goliath being the most prominent allegory of this dilema. The second key concept is the problem of the Inverted U-Shaped Curve. This problem illustrates how more is not often better and after a certain point does more harm than good; i.e. you cannot always just throw money and resources at the problem. Lastly, Gladwell does a great job detailing how Power / Leadership cannot succeed without Legitimacy. Moreover, that it cannot be won through brute force but must happen at the ground level, eye-to-eye. Every time I read Gladwell, I feel like I am getting a MasterClass in history. Talking to Strangers remains my favorite of his books but they are all amazing in their own way. This one in particular is especially meaningful right now in 2020. The stories and perspectives in it may be the best guide on how to persevere and resist in the face of seemingly overwhelming circumstances.

He has done it again!. I have to make an admission. I love Malcolm's writing, so there's no surprise I enjoyed "David and Goliath". His books provide a different and refreshing point of view. They are always well researched. And the stories they tell? Always poignant and well told. What more can you ask from an author?

David and Goliath. Excellent book. Used the concepts both professionally and personally. So often people use their stories as a crutch or an excuse other than an opportunity and gift that shapes who we are.

Interesting stories . . .. . . . but superficial analysis. The D & G story sold me the book, and Gladwell's account of the Birmingham civil rights drive is eye-opening, but his banging-on about "inverted-U" relationships overlooks the fact that they explain nothing, that they're just a quasi-mathematical way to say "too much of a good thing" may not be so good. What are the mechanisms that produce inverted-U relationships? Where do you see them and where not? The reasons why excessive rewards reduce motivation, and heavy-handed punishments fail to change behavior have been very we'll studied (and are very interesting).

Excellent read. This book was more than an interesting look at some interesting trends. It was a stunning snapshot of the human condition.

Life Changing - Thank You Mr. Gladwell. I so looked forward to the release of this book thinking it would be the book of my life. It is, but not for the reasons I thought. This is a work that made me realize that there is something deeper in the human condition that we all might tap into. Faith and weapons of the spirit were not the notions I expected Gladwell to explore. I expected a book on strategy . Instead my view of of my life was reversed. The son of the high school drop out father and mentally ill mother should become a statistic.. I did not, and this book explains why. It was surprising to learn that I was never the underdog at all. David's and Goliaths alike will learn something from this book. Mr. Gladwell if ever happen to read this, thank you! You will likely never know what you have meant to my life.

Too shallow. Great story telling, but beyond suggesting that the reader challenge assumptions, this book does little. There isn't an overall analysis beyond "look, these things are sort of like David and Goliath." Gladwell's previous works have far more to offer.

Readable, but analysis and conclusions dubious. As always Gladwell tells entertaining stories, but at least in this book his analysis and the conclusions reached seem to be square pegs pounded into round holes. Everything after David and Goliath goes downhill.

insightful analysis. I found this book well written and logically sound. I am so glad I picked and I will read it more than once.

David and Goliath. The opening story of David and Goliath was interesting then the book went downhill. I believe the author relied on his good storytelling technique to overcome weak arguments and made points that were forced to fit the data and stories he presented.

Don't waste your money. Luckily the first chapter is a sample. Read it and it will convince you to save your money.

Only partially readable. Enjoyed his other books, but this one fails to deliver. Ended up skimming some chapters, while others were very interesting. Not quite what I expected in terms of content on the subject.

Amazing book!. In David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell, I like how he has different sources of reliability so that it shows his readers how the opinions of people in it are credible. I thought that it helped that he included sports references because it helped me to better understand his main ideas and concepts. I found his stories very interesting and those examples gave me the ability to understand what he was saying and what he meant.However I feel like he tells a lot of stories and uses them to carry across his points rather than arguing. On the other hand this book was the perfect length and didn't discourage me at all.

Another thought provoking book by Gladwell. Great book - making the reader question prior held assumptions. Unfortunately the book is too short and leaves the reader wanting more. Luckily Gladwell's thorough research allows for any further studying of specific topics.

Disappointing. I was literally counting the days until this book was released. That's how much I enjoyed every other Gladwell book. But in the very first chapter, he analyzes and discusses a bible story as if it were historical fact. And that's where he lost me. I thought he was a bright guy but if he doesn't recognize that bible stories are fictitious, I just lost a whole lot of respect for him.

David and Goliath. A very disappointing effort from Mr. Gladwell. His social and political agenda pervades the book.

Excellent read. Like Malcom's other books, he tells interesting stories and presents great research to backup his central point, namely that the position of the underdog is often misunderstood and what we think of as advantages are often disadvantages. It's a great and insightful read.

Cashing in?. Have enjoyed his other books but this one is lazy, superficial and a waste of time. Seems like he is coasting now, cashing in on his name. Too bad, he is a good writer and can do better than this.

David and Goliath. The first time I hugged my Ipad was the day I finished reading this book by Mr. Gladwell. It amazing what the light of day will reveal.

Another Gladwell great. If you like any of his others then you'll like this one. More great work by Gladwell. Very insightful, thought provoking, and rich with history.
