A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson Book Summary

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

With Robert Jordan’s untimely passing in 2007, Brandon Sanderson, the New York Times bestselling author of the Mistborn novels and the Stormlight Archive, was chosen by Jordan’s editor—his wife, Harriet McDougal—to complete the final volume in The Wheel of Time®, later expanded to three books.

In A Memory of Light, the fourteenth and concluding novel in Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, the armies of Light gather to fight in Tarmon Gai’don, the Last Battle, to save the Westland nations from the shadow forces of the Dark One.

Rand al’Thor, the Dragon Reborn, is ready to fulfill his destiny. To defeat the enemy that threatens them all, he must convince his reluctant allies that his plan—as foolhardy and dangerous as it appears—is their only chance to stop the Dark One’s ascension and secure a lasting peace. But if Rand’s course of action fails, the world will be engulfed in shadow.

Across the land, Mat, Perrin, and Egwene engage in battle with Shadowspawn, Trollocs, Darkfriends, and other creatures of the Blight. Sacrifices are made, lives are lost, but victory is unassured. For when Rand confronts the Dark One in Shayol Ghul, he is bombarded with conflicting visions of the future that reveal there is more at stake for humanity than winning the war.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

What an end!!. This final book was the greatest end to a series I have read yet! I am so sad that it is over but I can not tell how much I enjoyed this series. I was a little bit sad to see Robert Jordan pass away but Brandon Sanderson finished this series in such an epic fashion that I am honestly worried that no book series will ever be as good

Amazing. Truly an amazing ending to the series and done right. Epic and great closure.

Satisfying ending. I was finally able to finish reading this last book. It was a very satisfying ending to a seemingly endless series. I thought the major plot lines were wrapped up nicely. I enjoyed it very much.

Great reads all 13 Books. Just finished last book. Great stories, because there were stories within stories, great characters because they all grew up to become their final selves. We got to be involved with them all and of course, we always want the good guys to come out on top..

Brilliant. Greatest book series I have ever read.

Wheel of Time series. A wonderful series full of extraordinary imagination from the brilliant mind of Robert Jordan, and a great loss of story telling for readers worldwide since his death. Thanks to Sanderson for stepping in and helping to give us the finishing work of this exciting story. I recommend this magical story to be read by all men, women, and young adults. The tale pulls you in as you are immersed into new worlds, different times, learning lessons of love and right from wrong, the true value of friendship and feeling as if you are having adventures along with your new friends and enemies. You will miss them when the books are all read but you will imagine the story going on past the written pages. Imagination at it’s best.

Worthy ending. Great finish to a great story. Could of kept the women empowerment a little more out the book, but great none the less.

Excellent ending to a too long series. Like the entire series this volume is perhaps 1/3 longer than it needs to be. However, it does close out every thread, although perhaps a bit to neatly. Some story lines come in and drag on for too long, while others end abruptly and with little thought. Of course, you could say the same thing for the last five books in the series. All that being said, it was a good, expected, long awaited end to the series and I am very glad it wasn't simply abandoned as so many other series have been.

23years... Over?! Awesome, but tragic.. Cannot believe it is finally done. Loved it, could not put it down. Greatest series ever. No question.

Great book!. A great book and a great ending, although I feel like it needs more questions answered.

A well written ending. This is a well written ending to an epic series. "A Memory of Light" outshines many of Robert Jordan's chapters. Bravo, Brandon Sanderson.

Wow, it all comes together in an EPIC finale. I can't believe the WOT series has finally wrapped up. It's been a long time coming, now it's over and I feel empty. "A Memory of Light" was amazing, action packed and the ending gave me chills. Nice job, Sanderson. A+!

A Fine Ending to a Great Epic!. This was a fine ending to the great epic of the wheel of time!

Amazing. Need I say more? The book leaves so much left unsaid yet because of that, it makes the book worthwhile. After reading this book, I would like 15 more books to expand the world yet alas that can not be. Jordan-Sanderson are quite the pair

Brandon Sanderson is a genius!. An incredible ending to a great series.

A Memory of Light. I believe, and I think most readers of this series will agree, that A Memory of Light is a tremendous effort, and really about the best way a series this long, complicated, and immense could conclude. The book satisfies all of the major plot details, and (as can be expected) leaves some events to be interpreted by the reader. For me, even though I generally don't like a series end to have much room for interpretation, in the case of the WoT I believe it is understandable for two reasons. First, obviously the death of Robert Jordan made finishing this series a challenge, and fortunately one that Brandon Sanderson rose to and met admirably. Second, simply because the series is so long and massive, it would be hard to address every single little plot detail in the final volume (especially without the help of the original author). Having said all this, I am left immensely satisfied by A Memory of Light. It is a thrilling, action-packed, and deeply moving conclusion to an immense fantasy saga that I will always cherish as one of the greatest I have ever read.

AMAZING!!!!. What a great finale! A great page turner from beginning to end. Though I am immensely sad that this is then end.. Over 20 years reading this story and I'm going to miss these friends!!!

Excellent. Writing. But…. … I found the gratuitous inclusion of a man “who likes men” not women as silly and unnecessary. I don’t know if the publisher pressured Brandon Sanderson into it or if he included it on his own but I found the other love and gender paradigm bending gambits played (by Jordan and Sanderson) throughout the series distasteful.

Incredible. Sanderson did this work justice. Couldn't have asked for a better ending.

A great read. The wheel of time is a great read. A worthwhile finish. Highly recommended.

The Wheel of Time. I started reading Robert Jordans book Eye Of The World 23 years ago and have anciously awaited every new book that followed. I first picked up Eye of the World when i was only 13 and now i have lived among sum of the most amazing characters and story i have read to date. Thank you Robert Jordan for all the books. You have taken me to so many amazing, and terrifying places, and introduced me to some of the most indepth characters i've ever had the privilage to read about. My sincerest condolances to your family you will be missed. In my opinion the literary world has lost one of its greats. Brandon Sanderson you have done the fans of the wheel of time a great justice. Giving us readers what we feared would never come... An end to 1 of the best series of books i have ever read. There were times i could tell another author had wrote Mr. Jordans final books. Then there were whole chapters that i could have swore had come directly from Robert himself. My condolences to you for the loss of your friend. Will be out lookin for more of your works soon. Thank you

The Final Book of the Wheel of Time. It's a page-turner--warm, suspenseful, colorful & illuminating. I'm so glad.

A fitting end.. I enjoyed this series immensely. The series was so huge and so much happened that the somberness of the ending was awesome. Well written, and just a fun read.

Big fan. This is most definitely the greatest fantasy book since the hobbit, you have to read from the beginning to know what’s happening but it was well worth the wait.

A series to complete (The Wheel of Time). If you have read most of the books don’t miss the finish. The best by far is the last book. If you haven’t read the series, you should.

Spin the wheel!. Of all the book series I have read, this is by far the greatest ending I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I have read great series that were like a journey in emotion, experiencing the flavor of each and very one, only to come to an end that tasted like a mouth full of plain white flour. I shall savor the meal that is this book like I do that prepared for me by my personal chef containing all my favorite dishes.

Epic. Wonderful.. Why read reviews when you could be reading this book?

The Series that Stands Forever. I began reading this series my freshman year of high school and have been infatuated with it since then. It is sad to see such a great series end but this is exactly the way I wanted it to play out. I couldn't have asked for a better ending! Thanks Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson!

Remarkable. I don't think I've ever read a series where I been more invested in the rise and fall of its characters. Brandon Sanderson has done a masterful job of completing the series that Robert Jordan created and envisioned. This is a masterful conclusion to a well forged tale.

An Exquisite End. A warm thanks to Jordan for creating this captivating world, and to Sanderson for crafting an exquisite end to a story that has become very important to me.

Good, but could be a lot better.. The entire book is one large action sequence. This is fine because there was plenty of character development throughout the series. It wrapped all the plot lines up and gave them an "ok" conclusion. Not a great or brilliant one mind you,but a decent one. I understand letting the reader make his/her own ending up in their imagination but they could of gone more in depth with the fate of the Aeil and the seachan. Some of the plot lines they left as cliff hangers. Regardless, it's wonderful to have a ending to the well loved series and I commend branderson on his efforts.

Epic. Epic ending to such an amazing series. Sanderson did a fantastic job, doing his part to stay true to Jordan's work. A true masterpiece.

Great conclusion to an epoch. I've been reading the series since it first came out eagerly waiting for the next volume. I too a few years off, an just plowed the last five books. This is an extremely satisfying conclusion to the best an riches series of fantasy novels if ever read. Sad to se it end, but what a great ending it was.

Jordan. The best series I have ever read.

disappointing. To be frank, I finished the book just to finish the series I started reading over 20 years ago. The series would have been a good 4-book series, but it is at most a mediocre 14 book set. Likewise, the last two books cold have easily been one. Verbosity is not a virtue, especially when the is relatively little to tell.

Amazing. Great finish to a great series.

One of the better ones. This series is perhaps the most complex I have ever read, with each character really evolving over time, and a large number of threads to follow. Sanderson really did a great job following Jordan’s work, making things virtually seamless. I especially like how pretty much everything was brought together in the end. A very intriguing story. I’m not quite sure what to call this - a mega-saga perhaps. Is this a new genre?

A satisfying ending. Wow, I've been reading this since I was a freshman in college, and I just turned 40! I can't believe that I missed the publication of this. I had friends who gave up on this series long ago, but I'm so glad I didn't. One of the best fantasy epics EVER. Now, if George RR Martin would just get moving. . .

Disappointing Finale. I had to read it after reading the rest of the series, but it was disappointing. Kills off many of the leading characters, only to magically bring them back to life later. I had read that Jordan thought he had one book left to write when he died, but Sanderson couldn't finish the story without writing two books. You can tell. It's like he felt he had to include any idea in Jordan's notes. This could have really used a good editor who wasn't afraid to cut things out that didn't further the story. Of course, why would the publisher want to do that when this way they could sell an extra book to hooked fans? The lack of talent is evident in the cliche ending where the hero literally rides off into the sunset. Give me a break!

Perfect. This is the definition of “sticking the landing.” Goodness

Great book, great series. Usually not much of a reader of this genre, but I've truly enjoyed this series from start to it's climactic and satisfying ending.

A Memory of Light. It is bittersweet for me to reach the end of this spellbinding series. I couldn't put it down. At the same time, I didn't want it to end! I don't remember the last time I enjoyed a series of books so much.

Closure to an exquisite series!. If you have not read the Wheel of Time series, now would be a great time to begin. Robert Jordan did a wonderful work that rivals Tolkien's and even after Jordan's death, Sanderson took the reins and through the help of Jordan's wife, completed the series in a true Robert Jordanesque fashion. Highly recommend this entire series. Just beware: you may find your reality warped as you are drawn into the tales, adventure, happiness and sorrows within. Enjoy!!!

Disappointing end to a beloved series. Sadly Sanderson can’t hold a candle to Jordan’s level of writing. Events seem forced and so many plot points come from nowhere with little if any foreshadowing. Then things like Perrins sudden growth of power seems super rushed and forced. This book would be good if it were fan fiction but sadly it’s not.

Differences. You can tell when Jordan is writing and when Sanderson steps in. An epic series, with closure at last.

Beautiful. This was a beautiful and perfect ending to Robert Jordan's mater piece!

Perfect wrap up. Just finished reading through the series a second time, with no breaks between books. Couldn't love this series more. This book does an excellent job of wrapping up the many story lines and character arcs in this series.

An amazing end to an amazing series. From the very start through to the end pages, the final book if The Wheel of Time series was non-stop action. For myself I couldn't have been happier with the pacing of the final book and was delighted to find that some characters weren't spared from demise. There were things I would have like to have expounded on--seeming anticlimactic--but still, a good read overall. Hm. Great. Now I have to find something new to read… perhaps the Wheel may turn and give us a new tale.

What a great series!. For someone who grew up next to the Indian Ocean, sitting on the terrace, with his grandfather telling the Ramayana and Mahabaratha at the rate of one chapter a day, a series like this is an amazing experience. It is long enough to give one a sense of satisfaction at the end and rich enough to keep wanting more. The books are somewhat pastoral till the last three where the typical Brandon Sanderson frenzy takes over. The characters grow up in a believable way and develop. I am going to miss their company after spending the last few months rushing through these books. I highly recommend this series.

Best Series Ever!!. Great ending to the best series ever written. Thanks Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson.

Unfortunately boring. I found the tying up of loose ends to be pretty boring. I kept reading because I've read the whole series and wanted to know how it ends but I was really disappointed in this.

A great epic story comes to an end. Mr. Sanderson did a great job wrapping this up. This last book really played with your emotions. Great job.

Finally feels like a wheel of time book. The last couple of books have seemed to lack the heart and soul of the characters from the books written by Robert Jordan alone, but this one has captured the essence of the characters for the most part. Most likely this is due to mr. Sanderson getting better at knowing these characters as well as possibly mr. Jordan having left better notes and plot points for the last battle. It almost feels like mr. Jordan was whispering in the writers ear or writing it himself. Excellent book, as it reminds us all why we fell in love with this story in the first place

Excellent Finish. I thought this was an amazing wrap up book. The battles were amazing and the plot was extraordinary. My only complaint is I had wished for more from the epilogue about the future of this universe but that’s just because I can’t get enough!

Great ending to this saga. It was not easy to wrap up this complex story and all the characters. Well done. After all these years there will be a void not waiting for the next book. Well done and well written.
