12 years a slave a must read!. Very moving story could not put it down. A difficult story but so glad I read it.

BREATHTAKING!. I found myself shocked to the very depths of my soul by the accounts laid before me within these pages. To think that human beings can be horribly cruel to another, breaks my heart! I have read very few books in my time and I admit I only read this as I plan to see the movie directed by Steve McQueen. It shocked me to learn an amazing fact during a radio interview with Steve McQueen on the subject of "12 years a slave"...... The interviewer asked the director why he had shown such long brutal scenes in the movie and he replied........ "I make no excuses for showing the true brutality of slavery". He also added that he asked the film association how many movies had been made about world war that lasted for a handful of years and his answer was hundreds!! Slavery has lasted hundreds of years and there has been less than 24 movies made on the subject!! A must read! Scott, Livingston.

Worth the effort. Although written in old English this is well worth reading. It was however spoiled by the volume of typos and punctuation errors in this version. The current film is very true to the story for a change.

Twelve Years A Slave.. Takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. The author has only to be believed as his revelations tug at your heart strings and invade your thoughts even when the book has been placed aside. This is a book I would recommend anyone to read as a necessary addition to our understanding of human nature at its worst and it's best.

12 years a slave. Thoroughly enjoyable read Gripping from the first chapter to the last can't wait now to see the movie.

Really engaging!. This is a wonderful yet tragic story and at almost every stage I found I had to remind myself that this actually happened... It's so hard to believe that our recent history contains such terrible acts in our so called civilised society. Nevertheless it was a truly rewarding read

Fantastic read. Informative and fascinating to get a first hand account of such a well known even often told from the prospective of history books. Solomon’s vocabulary is fantastic too, as I am sure peoples of the 17th century was.

Hard to read. Probably an interesting story but I'm already losing interest in the first chapter of the book - not very easy to read. Writer has used every big word he knows & it's like reading some kind of speech that the Queen has written.

Heart Wrenching. I knew before I started reading that I was going to be angry and disheartened. Yet it was riveting and compelling to the point I have been unable to stop. I have 30 or so pages to read and already I am both honoured and privileged to share in a story so dark and sinister and against all that I believe in. A must read.....
