Codex: Legion of the Damned (Interactive Edition) Book Summary

Appearing from the shifting tides of the Warp, the Legion of the Damned are mysterious bone-adorned Space Marines who arrive unlooked for to aid the servants of the Imperium. No one knows for sure where they come from, but none can doubt the fury with which they fight, or the trail of dead foes they leave in their wake. Tormented by a ghostly past and afflicted by the very power that snatches them from one battlefield to the next, the Legion are truly cursed warriors who, perhaps, seek salvation through the carnage they visit upon the enemies of the Emperor.

Codex: Legion of the Damned allows you to add Legion of the Damned squads into your Warhammer 40,000 army, or field them as a detachment in their own right. It includes extensive background on the mysterious Legion of the Damned, detailing the times they have appeared to fight alongside the armies of the God-Emperor. Also inside you will find rules for Legion of the Damned units, as well as three new missions, an artefact and Warlord Traits and, all unique to these legendary warriors.

This interactive edition features quick-links to special rules for ease of reference during your games.

As a person who retails Games Workshop products, this is yet another staple of proof that we do not care about our customers, do not read the reviews and try to rectify ourselves, only care about money and people with it, and worst off, have made a mockery of small business people like me who have faithfully played this game for years.
  • Not worth it!

Has a few short stories and only one unit. Not a codex, or worth the cost.
  • Another fun addition

Like the Inquisition codex and the datasheets for Cypher and Belakor, this gives options to use more of your collection on battles and a bunch of interesting backstory to read. Don't expect new units, but the ability to take Legion of the Damned as allies on their own for an Imperial force without using up your force organization slots. I enjoyed the read and looks forward to more fun options in the future.
  • Only for SERIOUS LoD diehards

I'll be honest and say I think up to now, GW has really been knocking the ball out of the park with their digital releases, but this Legion of the Damned codex is a real misstep for them. Even at the price of $20, vs the usual $40 - $60, it's still twice as expensive as it should be for the absolute dearth of meaningful content. For the $20, all you're getting is two artefacts to equip your LoD squads with that aren't already found in Codex: Space Marines, a few Warlord traits, and the addition of Grav Guns to their wargear options. The bulk of the rest of the book is stuffed with the same history already provided in the codex mentioned above, rewritten a number of different ways. There are no new units, only an FOC that allows for 4 total squads when they are added as their own detachment. Frankly, only the most rabid, frothing-at-the-mouth fans of the LoD will feel good about having spent $20 on this. If you don't fall into that group, just stick to what you see in Codex: Space Marines... you'll likely never know the difference.

Now don't get me wrong I love the pure idea and fluff behind the Legion of the Damned. I got excited about the "so-called" Legion Codex. All this book entails is warlord rules, and elite units. There are no troops in this codex. I understand it was my fault for thinking gamesworkshop could make anything but a crappy codex and new models. Turns out everything they put out lately is nothing but Tyranids Codex over again.
