Syd Barrett, fondateur de Pink Floyd, musicien génial, hypersensible et sans compromis, devait faire l’objet d’une biographie précise et sans complaisance. C’est ce que propose le diamant noir en retraçant l’itinéraire de cet artiste « pur » au sens quasi-mystique du terme.
Premier chanteur de Pink Floyd, guitariste et surtout auteur-compositeur quasiment exclusif du groupe, Syd Barrett se retrouva orphelin musical, littéralement lâché par ses camarades en 1968, déjà en proie à de graves troubles du comportement accentués par la prise de LSD.
Après deux albums solo aussi chaotiques qu’extraordinaires (et très vite promus « albums cultes »), Syd Barrett disparut totalement de la scène musicale en dépit du harcèlement de nombreux fans.
Il nous laisse un héritage artistique d’une immense valeur et une destinée qui ne peut que nous faire réfléchir sur la signification du mot « tragédie », et sur le sens même de la vie.
Le diamant noir, fruit d’années de recherches et d’interviews, inclut également de nombreuses photographies d’archives, ainsi qu’une préface du musicien et producteur Julian Cope.
